Unpacking and Moving Your Appliance

Check that your appliance is the correct model. Follow these steps to move the appliance to the installation location. Be careful when tilting the appliance forward/backward. Tape the doors shut to prevent opening during transit.

  1. Tilt the appliance slightly forward and insert a hand truck between the pallet and the appliance.
  2. Restrain the appliance with a strap.
  3. Tilt the appliance backward to load it onto the hand truck and push it to the installation location.

Before Installation

Follow these steps to ensure correct operation:

Power

  • Install the appliance where the plug is easily accessible.
  • Connect to a separate power point; avoid sharing with other appliances. Do not use extension cords or double adaptors.
  • Refer to the serial plate (front bottom right-hand side, door open) for power requirements.
  • Ensure the appliance is properly grounded (earthed).
  • Connect to the electrical supply (230V, 50Hz) using the fitted plug and lead.
  • Ensure all connections comply with local regulations.

Ice & Water and Automatic Ice Models

  • Installation must be performed by a qualified plumber or Fisher & Paykel trained technician. Incorrect plumbing can lead to water leaks.
  • Fisher & Paykel Appliances is not responsible for damage (including water damage) caused by faulty installation or plumbing.

Electrical Connection: Ensure the electrical connection is within the designated space behind the appliance and does not protrude from the back wall. Alternative connection locations at the rear of the cavity are available. An easily accessible isolating switch is recommended.

Electrical Specifications:

Water Connection

Follow these steps for water connection:

  1. Ensure the refrigerator is NOT plugged into a power supply.
  2. Connect the connection fitting to the faucet.
  3. Connect the short tubing to the faucet outlet and secure with the locking key.
  4. Connect the inlet of the Pressure Limiting Valve (PRV) to the tubing from the faucet. Ensure the arrow on the PRV points away from the faucet, indicating water flow direction.
  5. Connect the inlet tube from the filter head to the PRV. The inlet tube is identified by a downward arrow on the filter head and a red mark on the tube. Ensure the outlet tubing is correctly connected to the refrigerator water valve.
  6. Determine the water filter mounting position:
    • The filter head should be at the top to minimize water leakage during replacement.
    • Ensure the filter is in a convenient location for access every 6 months.
    • A minimum clearance of 2 inches (50mm) from the bottom of the water filter is required for filter removal.
  7. Attach the wall mounting bracket using the provided screws, starting with the bottom screw.
  8. Insert the water filter into the filter head and turn clockwise until it locks.
  9. To flush the water filter of trapped air, carbon fines, and check for leaks: Aim the filter outlet tubing into a bucket, turn on the faucet, and run approximately 2 gallons (8 liters) of water through. Turn off the faucet. Note: Further flushing is required before using ice/water functions.
  10. Run the 1/4" (6mm) tubing to the back of the refrigerator, ensuring enough slack for service access.
  11. Measure and mark 5/8" (16mm) from one end of the outlet tubing.
  12. Insert one end of the outlet tubing into the water valve cover's tube bore and slide back approximately 1 3/16" (30mm).
  13. Slide the cover all the way through the water valve. Pull up the locking piece and push the cover until it snap-locks into the valve.
  14. Check cover alignment. Press the locking piece down to secure the cover.
  15. Turn the faucet on and check all connections for leaks. Coil the water line tubing behind the refrigerator. Push the refrigerator into place, being careful not to kink or squash the tubing. Turn the refrigerator on.

Flushing the Water Filter

Automatic Ice Function:

  1. To turn the ice maker on, press the relevant button. The indicator light above the button will illuminate.
  2. Press the [Ice] and [+] buttons simultaneously for 4 seconds. Close the doors. The ice tray will empty water into the bin below only after the doors are closed.
  3. Repeat this process to remove any dust in the ice tray collected during manufacture and transport.
  4. Empty the water from the bin, dry it, and return it correctly.

The first bin of ice made may be discolored; this is normal during flushing. Discard this ice. Your ice maker is now ready for use. Filter performance improves after two to three full bins of ice. Repeat these steps after a holiday, vacation, or extended periods of non-use.

Positioning Your Refrigerator

Your Fisher & Paykel ActiveSmart™ refrigerator has front and rear rollers for easy movement. Avoid moving sideways to prevent damage to rollers or floor coverings. The front feet are wound up for initial movement.

What to do if your product is unstable:

  1. Roll the refrigerator into its final position, ensuring correct air gaps as per the cabinetry dimensions table.
  2. Gently push the refrigerator back until the rear rollers contact the floor. Measure the gap under the front foot that has lifted off the floor. Obtain suitable packing material (e.g., hardwood, plastic) and fit it firmly into the gap under the foot.
  3. Wind both front feet up, roll the product out, place the packing material diagonally opposite the lifting roller, and push the product back into position. Ensure the packing material stays in place.
  4. Roll the refrigerator back into position and adjust the front feet. Check alignment and door closing action. Make minor adjustments to the front feet as necessary.

For proper door closing action: Adjust the front feet down until the refrigerator leans backward, with the front approximately 3/8" (10mm) higher than the back.

Complete Installation

Before placing food in the fresh food or freezer compartments:

  • Remove all internal packaging and transit clips (small rubber stoppers at the back of shelves).
  • Clean the inside with a mix of warm water and mild liquid detergent using a soft cloth.
  • Allow the refrigerator and freezer to run empty for 2-3 hours to reach the appropriate temperature. An initial odor may be present but will dissipate as the appliance cools.

Energy Efficiency:

  • Ensure adequate ventilation around the appliance.
  • Do not cover the appliance with materials that block airflow.
  • Vacuum around the appliance to remove dust and debris.
  • Keep the appliance and cabinetry clean with a dry, lint-free cloth.
  • Allow good clearances in front of air ducts for cold air distribution.
  • Cool hot foods before placing them in the appliance.
  • Do not overfill compartments.
  • Minimize door openings.
  • Select an appropriate temperature setting (not too cold).
  • Check door seals for leaks.

Final Checklist

TO BE COMPLETED BY THE INSTALLER:

  • Check all parts are installed.
  • Ensure the appliance is level.
  • Ensure all internal and external packaging is removed before use.
  • Ensure the water filter is installed and has been flushed.
