Voice Recognition and Bluetooth® Connectivity
Using Voice Recognition
To improve Bluetooth® Voice Recognition (VR) performance, consider these contact naming conventions:
- Use full names (first and last) instead of short or single-syllable names (e.g., "John Smith" instead of "Dad").
- Avoid special characters, emojis, and hyphenated names (e.g., @, &, #, -, *).
- Avoid acronyms or words in all capital letters (e.g., "Emergency" instead of "ICE").
- Spell words completely; abbreviations are not recognized (e.g., "Doctor Smith" instead of "Dr. Smith").
- Always wait for the beep before speaking commands.
- Speak in a natural, moderate tone with clear pronunciation for voice calls.
- Minimize background noise (open windows, sunroof, rain, high A/C fan speeds) for better accuracy.
- The system may have difficulty with certain accents or uncommon names.
- Say "Help" after pressing the talk button for a list of available commands.
Pairing or Connecting Your Phone with Bluetooth®
- Initiate pairing by selecting "Device Connections" on the infotainment display or using the "Call" button on the steering wheel if no phone is paired.
- During pairing, accept all requests for phonebook download and future auto-connection.
- For second or subsequent phones, consult the vehicle's manuals as steps vary by infotainment system.
Troubleshooting Auto-Connection Issues:
- Reboot your phone (turn it off and on).
- Update your phone's operating system to the latest version.
- Delete the phone from the infotainment system's Bluetooth® list and delete "Kia Connect" from your phone's Bluetooth® list, then re-pair.
- Ensure the phone's Bluetooth® feature is activated.
- If contacts don't download, verify they are entered correctly and stored in supported categories (HOME, MOBILE, WORK, iPhone®). Unsupported categories (MAIN, PAGER, OTHER) may cause issues. If the contact list exceeds the display limit, contacts may download partially. Ensure only the "phone contact list" is selected for download, not social media or email contacts.
Phone operating systems and compatibility with Bluetooth® systems can change. For questions, contact a Kia dealer or Kia Consumer Assistance at 1-800-333-4542.
Other Bluetooth® Tips
- Bluetooth® reception depends on carrier coverage and phone signal strength.
- When streaming audio via Bluetooth®, ensure the volume on the connected device is turned up.
