2019 Kia Rio Vehicle Feature Tips
This document provides tips and information on various features of the 2019 Kia Rio. For more detailed information, please refer to the Owner's Manual, Multimedia System Manuals, Features and Functions Guide, and Quick-Start Guide.
Voice Recognition¹ and Bluetooth®2
Using Voice Recognition on UVO eServices System: Improve Bluetooth®2 Voice Recognition (VR) performance by making simple changes to your phone contacts:
- Use full names (first and last) instead of short or single-syllable names (e.g., "John Smith" instead of "Dad").
- Avoid special characters, emojis, and hyphenated names (e.g., @, &, #, /, -, *, +).
- Avoid acronyms (e.g., "ICE" instead of "Emergency") or words in all capital letters.
- Spell words completely; the system will not recognize abbreviations (e.g., "Doctor Smith" instead of "Dr. Smith").
- Always wait for the beep before speaking commands.
- When using VR to place a call, speak in a natural, moderate tone with clear pronunciation. Speaking too softly or too loudly may cause issues.
- The VR system may have difficulty understanding some accents or uncommon names.
- Press the talk button and say "Help" for a list of available commands.
Pairing or Connecting Your Phone with Bluetooth®2:
- Press the Phone hard key (if equipped) or "Call" button on the steering wheel to begin pairing if no phone is paired.
- To pair a second or subsequent phone, reference the manuals and guides supplied with your Rio, as steps vary by radio.
- During pairing, accept all requests for phonebook download and future auto-connection on your phone.
- If you experience auto-connection issues, try these steps:
- Reboot your phone (turn it off and on).
- Update your phone's operating system to the latest version.
- Delete the phone from the radio and the radio from the phone, then re-pair.
- Ensure the phone's Bluetooth®2 feature is activated.
- If contacts are not downloading, verify they are entered correctly and stored under supported categories (HOME, MOBILE, WORK, iPhone®3). Some categories (MAIN, PAGER, OTHER) may not be supported. If the contact number exceeds the radio's limit, contacts may download partially. Ensure only the "phone contact list" is selected for download on your phone (not social media or email contacts).
Phone operating systems change frequently, and compatibility may vary. For questions, contact your Kia dealer or Kia Consumer Assistance at 1-800-333-4542.
Other Bluetooth®2 Tips:
- Bluetooth®2 reception is affected by carrier coverage and phone dependency.
- If streaming audio via Bluetooth®2, ensure the listening volume on the device is turned up.

Satellite Radio Reception
Satellite radio reception requires a direct line of sight with the satellite. Tunnels, bridges, covered parking, mountainous terrain, tall buildings, heavy foliage, and other obstacles may momentarily interrupt the signal. Reception will be restored within seconds in an open, unobstructed area. The signal may weaken in areas not covered by the satellite repeater network.
Trunk / Tailgate Operation
5DR vehicles: The tailgate locks/unlocks with all doors. Pressing the tailgate unlock button on the key fob momentarily unlocks it. Press the handle to open.
4DR vehicles: The trunk opens using the lever inside the vehicle or by holding the trunk button on the key fob for over 1 second.
Tilt Steering Wheel4
To adjust the steering wheel:
- Push down the Lock-Release Lever (A).
- Adjust the steering wheel to the desired angle (B).
- Pull up the Lock-Release Lever (A) to lock the steering wheel in place.
Wind Buffeting
When a rear window is lowered and front windows are closed, air can cause pressure pulsations. To relieve this, slightly open the front windows when opening rear windows.
Lighting Stalk Operation
The light switch has positions for OFF, Auto, Parking Lights, and Headlights. Turn the knob to the desired position.
- (A) OFF position
- (B) Auto light position
- (C) Parking light position: Turns on tail, license, and instrument panel lights.
- (D) Headlight position
Front and Rear Windshield Wiper / Washer Controls
Front Windshield Wiper/Washer Controls:
- MIST: Single wipe
- OFF: Wiper off
- INT: Intermittent wipe (A)
- LO: Slow wipe
- HI: Fast wipe
- PULL: Spray and wipe
Rear Wiper/Washer Controls (IF EQUIPPED):
- OFF: Wiper off
- LO: Slow wipe
- HI: Fast wipe
- PUSH: Spray and wipe
Check Engine Light from Fuel Cap
Tighten the fuel cap until it clicks once to prevent the Check Engine Light from illuminating. The Fuel Filler Door Release lever is on the lower part of the driver's door sill.
Headrest Adjustments5
- To raise headrest: Pull headrest up.
- To lower headrest: Press the lock, then press the headrest down.
Windshield Defogging
Windshield fogging is caused by moisture condensing on cold glass. To reduce fogging:
- Keep the inside of the glass clean.
- Use the Defrost Mode, which activates the A/C and opens the Fresh Air Vent (A).
- Adjust the Temperature Control to the desired temperature (B).
Condensation Inside Exterior Vehicle Lights
Vehicle exterior lights are vented to release pressure as air inside heats and cools. When moist air enters, condensation may appear on the lens surface. This is normal and will evaporate when the lights are turned on or the temperature increases.
USB Ports and Use of Cables
USB ports can be used for playing music or charging devices. Devices only recharge when the vehicle is in ACC/ON/Start position. If a USB device is difficult to plug in, try reversing its orientation. Always use the device manufacturer's certified USB charging cable, as aftermarket cables may affect functionality.
Power Outlet*
*If equipped. (Located at rear of Center Console)
The power outlet is designed for mobile telephones or other devices operating with vehicle electrical systems (12V, 15A, 180W max with engine running). Use the outlet only when the engine is running and remove the accessory plug after use. Prolonged use with the engine off can discharge the battery.
