Change Units of Measurement (UoM)
- Press Menu Button ? to enter the Setting menu, then press Menu Button ? to scroll to the UoM option screen. The last UoM options chosen will be displayed.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ to scroll through the UoM options: Meters/Degrees, Meters/Percent (%), Feet/Degrees, Feet Percent (%).
Select Targeting Mode
The TruPulse i Series has five Target Modes that allow selection or elimination of targets for accurate measurements in various field conditions.
- Press Menu Button ? to enter the Setting menu, then press Menu Button ? to scroll until the Targeting Mode option screen is displayed. The last selected option will be shown.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ to scroll through the Targeting Mode options: Standard (Std), Filter (FILt), Closest (CLo), Farthest (FAr), Continuous (Cont).
- Press Select Button ✔️ to make the current Targeting Mode the active mode.
- Ready to take measurements. The icon of the selected mode will be displayed. Standard Mode does not display an icon.
- Repeat steps to change the target mode.
NOTE: Any option chosen will be set when returning to Measurement Mode. To save the option across power cycles, manually power off the unit.
Measure Distance
- In Slope Distance Mode ?, the TruPulse i Series automatically calculates and .
- Measurements are taken from the 1/4-20 tripod mount (center) of the laser to the target.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ until the display shows the measurement screen.
- Aim at the target with a clear line of sight, then press-and-hold the Fire Button ?.
- The Laser Indicator ? will be displayed until the measurement is acquired or the Fire Button ? is released.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ to scroll through the other calculated measurement values.
Measure Distance Continued
- Press Fire Button ? to clear measurements and repeat steps 1 through 4.
Helpful Tip
The Vertical Distance ↕️ solution can measure height or clearance. In the diagrams (Fig. 1 & 2), add the height of the laser at eye level from the ground to the measurement.
Fig. 1 Diagram Description: Shows a person aiming at a tree. Lines indicate SD (Slope Distance), INC (Inclination), HD (Horizontal Distance), and VD (Vertical Distance).
Fig. 2 Diagram Description: Shows a person aiming at a pole. Lines indicate SD (Slope Distance), AZ (Azimuth), INC (Inclination), and HD (Horizontal Distance).
Measure Height (3-pt Routine)
This routine is ideal for flat, vertical objects that do not lean. For shooting through brush, use filter mode, foliage filter, and a reflector.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ until the display shows the initial measurement screen.
- Aim at the target with a clear line of sight and press-and-hold the Fire Button ?.
- The Laser Indicator ? will be displayed. The horizontal distance is acquired and displayed.
- When the display shows the next prompt, aim at the bottom of the target, press-and-hold the Fire Button ?. Inclination Angle_1 is measured and displayed.
- When the display shows the next prompt, aim at the top of the target, press-and-hold the Fire Button ?. Inclination Angle_2 is measured and displayed.
Measure Height (3-pt Routine) Continued
- Height measurement is calculated. The display flashes then shows a solid value with the calculated height.
Helpful Tip
- The laser sensor does not measure during the two inclination angle measurements. A clear line of sight to the bottom or top of the target is not required for these shots.
- The sequence of the two inclination angle shots does not matter: Bottom to Top OR Top to Bottom.
- Press the Select Button ✔️ during the Height routine to re-measure the previous measurement (ANG_1 or ANG_2), which is ideal for taking multiple height measurements on the same target.
Diagram Description: Shows measurements for height calculation using three shots, including HT (Height), HD (Horizontal Distance), and INC (Inclination).
Measure Height in 2-Shots
This measurement routine is ideal for leaning objects and requires a clear line of sight for both shots.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ until the display shows the initial measurement screen.
- Aim at the bottom of the target with a clear line of sight and press-and-hold the Fire Button ?.
- The Laser Indicator ? will be displayed. When the measurement is acquired, the Vertical Distance (VDb) measurement will be displayed. Note this value.
- Aim at the top of the target with a clear line of sight and press-and-hold the Fire Button ?.
Measure Height in 2-Shots Continued
- The Laser Indicator ? will be displayed. When the measurement is acquired, the Vertical Distance top (VDt) value will be displayed. Note this value.
- Subtract the two values to calculate the height: VDt - VDb = Height.
NOTE: When subtracting values, pay attention to the sign of the VD.
Diagram Description: Shows measurements for height calculation using two shots, including VDI, SD, INC, HD, VDb, and INC.
Measure 2D Vertical Missing Line
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ until the display shows the initial measurement screen.
- Aim at the target with a clear line of sight, press-and-hold the Fire Button ?.
- The Laser Indicator ? will be displayed. When the measurement is acquired, Shot 1 results will be displayed.
- When the display shows the next prompt, aim at the target with a clear line of sight, press-and-hold the Fire Button ?.
- The Laser Indicator ? will be displayed. When the measurement is acquired, Shot 2 results will be displayed.
Measure 2D Vertical Missing Line Continued
- The HD and INC ML values will be calculated and displayed. Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ to scroll through the SD and VD ML values from shot 1 to shot 2.
- Press Select Button ✔️ to scroll to Shot 2 and re-measure Shot 2.
- Continue to press Select Button ✔️ to return to step 1.
- Press Fire Button ? to return to step 1.
Helpful Tip
- Position yourself where shots 1 and 2 are made looking in the same direction with a clear line of sight to both targets.
- The VD solution will always be accurate regardless of the direction shots 1 and 2 are taken.
- If shot 1 is higher than shot 2, the VD value will be negative.
Diagram Description: Shows measurements for a 2D Vertical Missing Line calculation, including SD, INC, VD, and HD.
Measure 3D Missing Line (TruPulse 360i only)
- Position yourself anywhere with a clear line of sight to your two targets.
- Press Navigation Buttons ⬆️⬇️ until the display shows the initial measurement screen.
- Follow the same steps 2-7 from the 2D Vertical Missing Line routine.
- The TruPulse 360i calculates five variables between the two points: slope distance, inclination, azimuth, horizontal distance, and vertical distance, as shown in the figure.
Tips: Improving Accuracy Results
- During the Missing Line Routine, it is important that the TruPulse stays positioned above one particular point on the ground.
- Mounting the TruPulse on a monopod or tripod will improve the accuracy of your results location.
- If using the TruPulse handheld, be aware of your body's swinging motion when aiming at the second target.
Diagram Description: Shows measurements for a 3D Missing Line calculation, including VD, SD, INC, HD, AZ.
