Cautions to Observe Prior to Use
- Intended Use: To charge batteries (NiCd/NiMH, Lead-Acid, Lithium-Ion, LiFePO₄) or to be used as a Power Supply for electrical accessories. Verify product type and read applicable instructions.
- May be used by unskilled operators if instructions are followed. Contact supplier/manufacturer for assistance.
- Children aged 8+ and persons with reduced capabilities may use with supervision, understanding hazards. Keep away from small children to prevent strangulation risk from cables or inhalation/swallowing risk from small parts.
- Keep animals away to prevent damage to cables (risk of electric shock, overheating) or strangulation.
- Check mains cord for damage. If damaged, do not use until replaced by qualified personnel.
- Ensure the mains socket outlet used is easily accessible for immediate removal of the mains supply. A detachable cord's coupler can serve as a disconnect device.
- The product is switched ON by inserting the mains plug and OFF by disconnecting it.
- Can be connected to an IT type mains supply.
- For use in U.S.A.: Use 125V 15A receptacle. Use a UL817-standard compliant mains cord (NEMA 1-15 plug, SJT or SVT cord).
- For use outside U.S.A: Use a mains cord compliant with country-specific requirements.
- Full function start-up may exceed 15 seconds.
- In case of operational error or performance change, disconnect the product from the mains immediately and contact the supplier/manufacturer.
- Disconnect from mains when not in use to reduce hazards, environmental impact, and save electricity.
- Ensure sufficient ventilation around the product to avoid overheating; do not cover it.
Further Cautions and Compliance
- Avoid prolonged skin contact to prevent potential allergies or injuries from moderate temperatures or plastic materials.
- Read respective User Manuals for accessories and interconnected equipment.
- Refer to separate pages for assembly of exchangeable output plugs.
- Modular output cables (telephone connector style) must not be connected to telephone outlets.
- Products with welded plastic housing or IP67 rating are not repairable; supply cord cannot be replaced. If damaged, scrap the appliance and contact supplier for replacement parts.
- Contains hazardous voltages; no user-replaceable parts. Never attempt to remove the cover.
- WARNING: Modifications are not allowed. Repairs/service must be done by qualified personnel.
- Products with automatic polarity protection must be switched off if a battery is connected with reverse polarity; protection resets automatically upon correction.
- If a fuse is used for polarity protection, replace it with the same type and rating if reverse polarity occurs.
- Medical Electrical Equipment Compliance: If specified to comply with IEC60601-1 or IEC60601-1-11 (Home Healthcare Environment), it meets requirements for medical applications. For Class I products in home healthcare, permanent wiring to the building installation is required, with specific earth conductor requirements (min. 0.75 mm²).
- Keep away from heat sources, flammable anesthetic gases, or explosive atmospheres.
- Converts mains voltage to safety extra low voltage. Products with 2MOPP insulation (model names with "P") may contact patients (Type B or BF), but the housing must not contact the patient.
Environmental and Operational Conditions
- Operating Environment: Temperature +5 to +40°C, humidity 15-93% RH, atmospheric pressure 70-106 kPa (700-1060 hPa). Wait 30 minutes after storage/transport outside this range before operating.
- Expected Service Life: 3 years (if operated as indicated). Guarantee times from "TERMS OF SALES AND DELIVERY FOR MASCOT AS" apply.
- Transport/Storage Parameters: Temperature -25 to +85°C, humidity 15-93% RH, atmospheric pressure 70-106 kPa.
- Long-term Storage Parameters: Temperature +5 to +35°C, humidity 10-75% RH, atmospheric pressure 70-106 kPa to maintain service life.
- Expected Shelf Life: 1 year (if stored as indicated).
- Complies with electromagnetic compatibility requirements for medical equipment in residential, office, or light industrial environments. However, potential interference with other devices exists; disconnect and consult a technician if suspected.
- Maintenance: No special procedure required. Wipe clean with a dry cloth when disconnected from mains if dusty or dirty.
- Plastic Casing Care: Avoid contact with lotions, oils, grease, and solvents. Keep away from UV-light and direct sunlight.
- Operate and store under foreseeable environmental conditions (magnetic fields, EM-fields, electrostatic discharges, pressure variations, acceleration).
- If used in a vehicle, it must only be used when the vehicle is not in use.
- Position product so the label is readable within 40 cm of the operator.
- Turn off and allow to cool down before moving.
Cautions for Charging Lead-Acid Batteries
- Designed for Lead-Acid batteries only.
- Ensure correct charger for the battery type. Refer to specifications for minimum capacity.
- Do not attempt to charge non-rechargeable batteries.
- Check battery specifications for compatibility with the charger's maximum charge current and environmental conditions.
- Contact the battery manufacturer if in doubt.
- For flooded lead-acid batteries, check and top up electrolyte level with distilled water (5-10 mm over lead-plates) if necessary.
- Old, sulfated batteries may have reduced capacity and charge current. They should ideally be replaced.
- Charging can produce explosive gases; ensure a well-ventilated area and avoid sparks and open flames.
- Disconnect the charger from the mains before connecting to the battery to avoid sparks.
- Ensure correct polarity when connecting to battery terminals. Reverse polarity may blow a fuse or render the charger useless.
- When charging non-vehicle batteries, connect the charger to the mains before connecting to the battery to minimize sparks. Ensure terminals are not short-circuited and polarity is correct.
- If using battery clips: connect RED clip to positive battery pole, then BLACK clip to negative battery pole.
- For vehicle batteries: connect RED clip to positive battery pole (not connected to chassis), then BLACK clip to the vehicle chassis, away from the battery and fuel system.
- The charge cycle begins when the charger is connected to the mains.
- If disconnected during a charge cycle, the charger will restart a new cycle upon reconnection.
- When charging is complete, disconnect the charger from the mains before disconnecting battery connections. For clips: disconnect positive first, then negative/chassis.
- Battery Capacity Recommendations: Consult datasheets. Typical C/5 charge current for Lead Acid cells is used (e.g., 10Ah battery max 2A charge current). Max capacity is often 50x charge current.
Connecting Plugs and Mounting
How to connect exchangeable DC-output plugs:
1. Polarity is clearly marked on both plug ends.
2. The female plug is also marked on each side to identify polarity when connected.
3. The center polarity of the plug is shown.
How to connect exchangeable AC-plugs:
Available AC plugs:
- EURO: 250V 2.5A (EN50075/IEC83 C5 II)
- US: 125V 2.5A (NEMA 1-15 / CSA-C22.2 No.42)
