3. General Information
The UVC/T-AR, UVC/T-M-AR, UVT-B-AR, and UVT-S-AR PCR cabinets are designed for DNA/RNA decontamination and for creating aseptic conditions in a laboratory workspace. All models are tabletop units, equipped with a metal support frame, glass or acrylic walls, and a work surface that is powder-coated or made of stainless steel. The cabinet is equipped with an inlet for power cables or built-in power outlets inside. Please refer to each model for specific characteristics (see section 7.1).
The PCR cabinets are equipped with an open UV lamp installed at the top inside the cabinet. The open UV lamp's radiation disinfects the work area, inactivating DNA/RNS fragments within 15-30 minutes. A digital timer controls the direct UV radiation duration. A daylight lamp provides illumination for the work surface.
The PCR cabinets are equipped with a circulating bactericidal UV purification recirculator (AR), which ensures continuous decontamination inside the cabinet during operation. This is recommended for operations with DNA/RNA amplicons. The UV recirculator consists of a UV lamp (Fig. 1/1), a fan, and dust filters (Fig. 1/2), all housed in a plastic casing. The operator working with the PCR cabinet is not exposed to UV radiation from the operating UV recirculator; this allows for continuous air treatment without interrupting the work process. Air circulation at a short distance from the UV lamp and reflective panels in the air duct increase the UV light density in the recirculator, ensuring effective deactivation. The UV recirculator can process 100 cabinet volumes per hour, thus ensuring maximum aseptic conditions inside the box.
Figure 1. Recirculator Diagram:
- 1. UV lamp.
- 2. Fan and inlet filter.
- 3. UV indicator.
- 4. Outlet filter.
Microbiological studies by Biosan's scientific department, under the leadership of Doctor of Biology Vasilijs Bankovs, demonstrated a high level of biosafety and effectiveness (maximum contamination level is 1-3 CFU per 100 L of air)1.
1 See http://biosan.lv/eval-en
The PCR cabinet's construction does not provide operator protection, therefore it is not recommended to use the box for work with hazardous infectious and viral materials.
Advantages:
- UV recirculator.
