Installation and Connections

Installation

ATTENTION

When installing this unit in your vehicle, do not remove the detachable front panel. If you remove the front panel during installation, you risk applying excessive pressure and bending the metal plate that holds it in place. The main unit must be fixed at an angle of no more than 35 degrees from the horizontal plane, from the rear to the front. Insert the mounting sleeve into the dashboard. Secure the unit with mounting keys. Insert the CDE-141/CDE-140 into the dashboard until it clicks into place. This way, the unit will be securely fixed and will not risk falling out of the dashboard. Attach the detachable front panel.

Removing

  1. Remove the detachable front panel.
  2. Remove the mounting sleeve from the main unit (Refer to "Removing" on page 30).
  3. Extract the unit, keeping it unlocked.

JAPANESE VEHICLES

If the mounting sleeve does not fit the dashboard shape well, you can slightly bend the compression plates to resolve the problem. Reinforce the main unit with a metal mounting bracket (not supplied). Connect the unit's ground wire to a clean metal point. Connect each input wire from an amplifier to the corresponding output wire on the left rear of the CDE-141/CDE-140. Connect all other wires of the CDE-141/CDE-140 as described in the CONNECTIONS section.

Connections

POWER ANT (Blue): Connect to the electric antenna terminal. REMOTE TURN-ON (Blue/White): Connect to the remote turn-on wire of your amplifier or signal processor. ILLUMINATION (Orange): This wire can be connected to the instrument cluster illumination wire. This wire allows the unit's backlight brightness to gradually decrease when the vehicle's headlights are turned on. IGNITION (Red): Connect to an open terminal on the vehicle's fuse box or another unused 12 V power source that is active only when the ignition is on or in the accessory position. BATTERY (Yellow): Connect to the positive (+) terminal of the vehicle's battery. GND (Black): Connect to a good chassis ground on the vehicle. Ensure the connection is made to bare metal and securely fastened using the provided metal foil screw. SPEAKER OUTPUTS: Connect speaker wires according to polarity. Do not connect speaker wires from the left and right channels together or to the vehicle chassis. Antenna Receptacle. FRONT PRE-OUT RCA CONNECTORS (RED for right, WHITE for left). REAR PRE-OUT/SUBWOOFER RCA CONNECTORS (RED for right, WHITE for left). FUSE HOLDER (10 A). POWER CONNECTOR. RCA EXTENSION CABLE (sold separately). FRONT AUX INPUT JACK: This jack allows audio input from an external device (such as a portable player) using a commercially available conversion cable. USB JACK: Connect a Flash memory device or iPod/iPhone (sold separately) to this jack. To prevent external system audio interference: Install the unit and route the cables at least 10 cm away from the vehicle's wiring harness. Keep power cables as far as possible from other cables. Connect the ground wire to an exposed metal point (remove paint, dirt, or grease if necessary) on the vehicle chassis. If installing an optional noise filter, connect it as far as possible from the unit. Consult your Alpine dealer for details on various noise filters available. Consult your Alpine dealer for more details on noise prevention measures.
