  • Disconnect the negative battery terminal before wiring.

Getting Started

Panel Removal

The front panel can be removed to prevent theft. To remove, press and hold the power button until the unit turns off, press the panel release button, and pull the panel towards you.

Caution Alarm: If the ignition is turned OFF without removing the front panel, a caution alarm will sound for a few seconds.

Unit Reset: Before first use, or after replacing the car battery or changing connections, reset the unit. Press the power button and button 6 for over 2 seconds.

Area/Region Setup: After resetting, the unit prompts for area/region setup. Select your region (e.g., EUROPE, RUSSIA) and confirm.

Clock Adjustment: Access the setup menu, select [GENERAL], then [CLOCK ADJ]. Use the control dial to set the hour and minutes, then press ENTER.

Bluetooth Preparation (CDE-203BT/UTE-200BT)

This unit allows hands-free calling and audio playback via Bluetooth. To connect a Bluetooth device (smartphone, mobile phone, audio device):

  1. Place the Bluetooth device within 1 meter (3 ft) of the unit.
  2. Press and hold /SETUP for at least 2 seconds, select [BLUETOOTH], then [PAIRING].
  3. Select [SET DEVICE 1] or [SET DEVICE 2].
  4. Initiate pairing on the Bluetooth device.
  5. If prompted, enter the access code [0000].
  6. Select the unit's model name (e.g., CDE-203BT) on the Bluetooth device to establish the connection. The connection indicator will illuminate.

iPhone/iPod Connection (Automatic Bluetooth Pairing)

Connecting an iPhone/iPod with iOS 5 or later via USB automatically pairs and connects the unit. Ensure [AUTO PAIR] is set to [ON] in the Bluetooth settings.

  1. Activate Bluetooth on the iPhone/iPod.
  2. Connect the iPhone/iPod to the USB port. The connection indicator will illuminate.

Notes: Automatic Bluetooth pairing is not possible if the unit is already connected to two Bluetooth devices. Ensure the iPhone/iPod is running the latest iOS version and has Bluetooth enabled.

Radio Operation

To listen to the radio, press SOURCE and select [TUNER].

Automatic Storage: Press A/ME to change bands (FM1, FM2, FM3, MW, LW). Press and hold A/ME for at least 2 seconds to automatically store stations by frequency.

Tuning:

  • Manual Tuning: Press and hold to locate approximate frequencies, then press repeatedly to fine-tune.
  • Automatic Tuning: Press . The search stops when a station is recognized.

Manual Storage: When a desired station is recognized, press and hold a numeric button (1-6) until [MEM] appears.

RDS (Radio Data System):

  • AF/TA (Alternative Frequencies/Traffic Announcement): Rescans for stronger signals of the current station and provides traffic information. Configure via [GENERAL] > [AF/TA].
  • PTY (Program Type) Selection: Press (navigate) during FM reception, turn the dial to select a program type (e.g., NEWS, SPORT, MUSIC), and press to search for stations broadcasting that type.
  • RDS CT (Clock Time): Sets the clock using RDS time data. Configure via [GENERAL] > [RDS CT ON].
  • Regional Programs: [REGIONAL ON/OFF] setting in [GENERAL] can restrict reception to regional programs.

Playback

Disc Playback (CDE-203BT/CDE-201R)

Insert a disc with the label facing up. Playback starts automatically.

USB Device Playback

This unit supports USB devices with AOA 2.0, MSC, and MTP protocols. Connect a USB device to the USB port. Playback begins automatically. If a device is already connected, press SOURCE and select [USB] or [IPD] (for iPod).

Notes:

  • Playback of certain file formats (MP3/WMA/FLAC/AAC) may not be supported, especially if they are DRM-protected or in a lossless format.
  • Some operations like skipping albums or searching by name may not be available when a USB device is in Android or iPod mode.
  • For iPhone, call volume is controlled by the iPhone itself.

Bluetooth Audio Playback (CDE-203BT/UTE-200BT)

Connect a Bluetooth-compatible device supporting A2DP for audio playback. Ensure the device is paired and connected via Bluetooth settings.

Repeat and Shuffle Playback: During playback, press (repeat) or (shuffle) to select the desired mode.

Track Search: Press (navigate) to view search categories and select tracks.

Bluetooth Hands-Free Calling

Receiving a Call: Press when the phone rings. The call will begin. Press again to end the call. Press and hold SLEEP for 2 seconds to reject a call.

Making a Call:

  • From Phonebook: Press , select [PHONE BOOK], choose an initial, select a name, then select a number.
  • From Call History: Press , select [HISTORY], choose a call entry, and press to dial.
  • By Dialing Number: Press , select [DIAL NUMBER], enter the phone number using the dial, and press ENTER.

Voice Dialing: Press , select [VOICE DIAL], and speak the voice tag stored on your mobile phone.

During a Call:

  • Adjust tone volume by turning the dial while receiving a call.
  • Adjust interlocutor volume by turning the dial during a call.
  • Adjust microphone gain (MIC GAIN LOW/MID/HI) by pressing MIC.
  • Switch between hands-free and manual mode by pressing A/ME.

Echo/Noise Reduction: Press and hold MIC to select configurable modes [BTP EC/NC 1] or [BTP EC/NC 2].

Troubleshooting Bluetooth Calls:

  • If the phone is not connected, connect it from the phone itself.
  • If sound quality is poor, move the car to an area with better mobile signal reception.
  • If the audio device volume is low, adjust the volume on the device or the unit.
  • If sound skips during Bluetooth audio playback, reduce distance or remove the device from its case. Avoid nearby devices emitting radio waves.
  • If the phone does not connect automatically, ensure it is configured for automatic answering.
  • If Siri Eyes Free is not activating, ensure the iPhone is compatible, Bluetooth is connected, and Siri is enabled on the iPhone.

Useful Functions

Audio Adjustments:

  • Adjust Bass, Treble, Mid, Subwoofer levels, Balance (left/right), and Fader (front/rear) using the control dial after pressing /SETUP.
  • BASS ENGINE SQ: Enhance bass impact by selecting [OFF] or levels [1]-[6].

Siri Eyes Free: Allows hands-free Siri operation with compatible iPhones via Bluetooth. Ensure the iPhone is connected via Bluetooth and Siri is enabled on the iPhone. Press VOICE to activate.

Settings

Access settings by pressing and holding /SETUP for at least 2 seconds, then selecting a category (GENERAL, AUDIO, DISPLAY, BLUETOOTH) and options.

General Settings:

  • AREA: Select region (EUROPE, RUSSIA).
  • DEMO MODE: [ON]/[OFF].
  • CAUTION ALM: [ON]/[OFF].
  • BEEP: [ON]/[OFF].
  • AUTO OFF: Automatic shutdown after a set time (e.g., 30 minutes).
  • USB MODE: Select [MSC/MTP] or [ANDROID].
  • RDS CT: [ON]/[OFF].
  • AF/TA: Configure Alternative Frequencies and Traffic Announcements.
  • RDS REGIONAL: Restrict FM reception to specific regions.
  • FIRMWARE: Check/update firmware version.

Audio Settings:

  • EQ PRESET: Select from 10 EQ curves or turn off.
  • 3BAND PEQ: Adjust Width, Frequency, and Level for Bass, Mid, and Treble.
  • BALANCE: Adjust sound balance from R15 to L15.
  • FADER: Adjust front to rear balance from F15 to R15.
  • SUBWOOFER: Adjust level, phase, LPF/HPF frequencies.
  • AUX VOL: Adjust volume for auxiliary devices.
  • BTA VOL: Adjust Bluetooth audio volume.

Display Settings:

  • BLACK OUT: Automatic screen dimming after inactivity.
  • DIMMER: Adjust screen brightness ([OFF], [ON], [AUTO], [CLOCK]).
  • BRIGHTNESS: Adjust screen brightness level [1]-[10].

Bluetooth Settings (CDE-203BT/UTE-200BT):

  • PAIRING: Connect up to two devices.
  • AUDIO DEVICE: Select audio source.
  • RINGTONE: Select unit or phone for ringtone.
  • AUTO ANSWER: Set automatic call answering.
  • AUTO PAIR: Automatic Bluetooth pairing for iOS devices via USB.
  • BT IN: Activate/Deactivate Bluetooth.
  • BT INITIAL: Initialize Bluetooth settings.

Color Customization:

  • KEY COLOR: Set button colors (predefined or custom RGB).
  • DISP COLOR: Set screen colors (predefined or custom RGB).
  • TEXT SCROLL: Enable/disable scrolling for long text.

Installation

Parts List: The package includes the main unit, microphone (for CDE-203BT/UTE-200BT), and installation hardware. Use the included release keys to remove the protective frame and mounting bracket.

Wiring Diagram:

Connect the following:

  • Power connectors (ISO connectors for power and speakers).
  • Ignition (Red) and Battery (Yellow) wires to the vehicle's power source.
  • Ground (Black) wire to a chassis ground point.
  • Remote Turn-On (Blue/White) to amplifier/signal processor.
  • Antenna (Blue) to electric antenna control.
  • Dimmer (Orange) to instrument panel illumination for dimming.
  • Speaker outputs (various colors) to front, rear, and subwoofer speakers.
  • RCA connectors for audio output.
  • Microphone input.

Fuse Replacement: Use a fuse of the same amperage. If a fuse blows repeatedly, check for internal malfunction.

Mounting Angle: Adjust the mounting angle to less than 30°.

Noise Prevention:

  • Route cables away from the vehicle harness (min. 10 cm).
  • Keep power cables away from other cables.
  • Ensure a secure ground connection.
  • If adding a noise suppressor, install it away from the unit.

Microphone Installation: Install the microphone for hands-free calls, ensuring the cable does not interfere with driving operations.

Troubleshooting

No Sound or Low Volume:

  • Check FADER setting.
  • Increase unit or connected device volume.

No Beep Sound:

  • Ensure the integrated amplifier is used, not an external one.

Memory Cleared:

  • Check power/battery connections.
  • Fuse may have blown.

Noise on Contact:

  • Ensure auxiliary power connector is properly connected.

Demo Mode Activates:

  • Set [DEMO MODE] to [OFF].

Display Issues:

  • Check DIMMER setting.
  • Ensure panel connectors are clean (page 24).
  • Verify sufficient power supply (12V DC).

Buttons Not Working:

  • Reset the unit by pressing and holding the power button and button 6.

Radio Reception Issues:

  • CD ERROR: Disc cannot be played.

  • INVALID: Invalid operation selected.
  • IPD STOP: iPod playback ended.
  • NO AF: No alternative frequencies.
  • NO TP: No traffic programs.
  • NOT SUPPORT - ANDROID MODE: Incompatible USB mode.
  • OVERLOAD: USB device overloaded.
  • READ: Reading information.
  • USB ERROR: USB device cannot be played.
  • USB NO DEV: USB device not connected or recognized.
  • USB NO MUSIC: No playable files on USB.
  • USB NO SUPRT: USB device not compatible.
  • BTA NO DEV: Bluetooth device not connected or recognized.
