Key Benefits of the Software Update
This software update significantly enhances the GPZ 7000's ability to track ground conditions, ensuring more of the audio you hear originates from gold nuggets. This results in:
- More stable threshold
- Higher sensitivity
- Less false ground signal interference
- Precision ground tracking
- More gold found
The update also maximizes achievable detection depth in various soil types by improving the tracking of the yellow ferrite during ground balancing.
Expert Insights on ZVT Technology
"We've adjusted how the detector accumulates information. You'll find that the GPZ is now more stable and consistent over the ground than before. You should encounter fewer false signals from a wide range of challenging soils."
– Dr. Philip Wahrlich, Principal Technology Physicist, Minelab R&D Team
"A GPZ with a ferrite balance that was incorrect could sometimes generate noisy audio on mineralised ground. The latest software will greatly reduce this phenomenon."
– Mark Lawrie, Senior Electronics Engineer, Minelab R&D Team
How to Install the Update
Install this FREE GPZ 7000 software update via XChange 2 to upgrade your detector. No service centre visit is required. Follow the instructions below or visit www.minelab.com.
Important Note
Important: Do not turn the detector off at any point during the upgrade process, or the update will not be applied. ⚠️
Download the Update
If the update download fails, an error message dialog will be displayed. If this occurs, repeat steps 1 and 2 of the relevant download method.
Download using XChange 2
- Login and Connect: Log in to XChange 2 and connect your GPZ 7000 to a computer via USB. The GPZ 7000 collection will be displayed in XChange 2.
- Check for Update: If an update is available, an update icon will appear. Click 'Update Available' next to the icon to open the 'Updates Available' dialog.
- Download to PC: Select GPZ 7000 from the 'Updates Available' dialog to download the software update file to your PC. A progress dialog will be shown.
Download Manually (PC or Mac)
This method is for users with a Mac or without internet access on their primary update machine. You will need to manually transfer the update file onto your detector.
- Connect to Computer: Connect the GPZ 7000 to your computer via USB cable. A drive named 'Minelab' will appear.
- Transfer File: Open the 'Minelab' drive and copy the software update file into it.
Install the Update
Once the software update file has been transferred (either via XChange 2 or manual transfer), proceed with updating the GPZ 7000 firmware.
- Disconnect Detector: Safely eject the 'Minelab' drive from your computer and unplug the USB cable. The GPZ 7000 screen will display a 'USB Disconnected' dialog, which may take up to 2 minutes.
- Upgrade Firmware: If an update file is found, a dialog will prompt 'Upgrade Firmware?'. Select 'Upgrade' to begin the firmware update. A progress bar will indicate the update status.
- Upgrade Complete: When the upgrade finishes, the GPZ 7000 will automatically turn off. Power it on again to start with the new firmware. The Quick-Trak guide sequence will now show a yellow ferrite, indicating the update is applied.
Note on Cancellation: If you select 'Cancel' during the upgrade, the downloaded file will be deleted, and you will need to re-download it. If a 'Low Battery' dialog appears, charge the battery and restart the process.
You can verify the software version via the 'Version Information' function on the Reset page. Before update: Control Panel: 1.0.8-57. After update: Control Panel: 1.2.8-98.
Upgrade Failure: If you encounter issues, repeat the update steps. If problems persist, contact your dealer or a Minelab Service Centre.
Yellow Ferrite Ground Balancing
It is crucial to Ground Balance the GPZ 7000 using the yellow ferrite at the start of each detecting session. This prevents ferrite-like components in the soil from causing false audio responses.
The updated software features an animated guide sequence for using the yellow ferrite during the Quick Start/Quick-Trak process. This sequence also serves as a confirmation that the GPZ 7000 has the new software installed.
The ferrite ground balancing method is further detailed on the multi-language reference card provided with new detectors and accessory ferrites.
Quick-Trak Process Illustration
Diagrams illustrate the Quick-Trak process. The sequence shows the detector coil being moved in a specific pattern over the ground, with visual cues indicating the steps.
