GPZ 7000 Software Update: The Future of Gold Detection, Now Even Better!
Featuring a new automatic ground tracking algorithm and improved automatic ground balance function. Get your detector update online via XChange 2. Recover maximum gold!
Benefits of the GPZ 7000 Software Update
This GPZ software update enhances the detector's ability to track the ground, so a greater portion of the sounds you hear will be gold nuggets. This provides:
- More stable threshold
- Increased sensitivity
- Less false ground signal interference
- Highly accurate ground tracking
- More gold found
Furthermore, this update maximizes the detection depth achievable in all soil types, thanks to improved yellow ferrite ground tracking during ground balance.
"We adjusted the way the detector accumulates information. As you will see, the GPZ is now more stable and consistent on the ground than ever before. You will get fewer false signals in a wide variety of difficult soils."
Dr. Philip Wahrlich
Principal Physicist, Technology
Minelab R&D Team
"When the ferrite balance was performed incorrectly on the GPZ, it sometimes generated a noisy audio in mineralized soils. The latest software will greatly reduce this phenomenon."
Mark Lawrie
Principal Electronics Engineer
Minelab R&D Team
Install this FREE GPZ 7000 software update via XChange 2 to update your detector right now. There is no need to take your GPZ 7000 to a service center; simply follow the instructions on the next page or visit www.minelab.com.
"Now, once the ground balance with yellow ferrite is performed, the apparatus tracks and maintains the balance throughout the entire session."

Ground Balance with Yellow Ferrite
It is very important to perform the GPZ 7000 ground balance using the yellow ferrite before starting your detection session. This way, ferrite-like components found in the ground will not trigger false audio responses.
The updated software shows how to use the yellow ferrite in the animated guide sequence when performing the Quick-Start/Quick-Trak process. (This is also a way to determine if a GPZ 7000 detector has the new software installed.)
The method for performing ferrite ground balance is also described, in several languages, on the reference card provided with the detectors and ferrite accessories.
Steps to Update Your GPZ 7000 Firmware
This section describes how to update the firmware (software) of your GPZ 7000 detector. You can perform firmware updates easily via Minelab's XChange 2, or manually via a file transfer method if you do not have XChange 2, e.g., if you are using a Mac.
Download the Update
Important: Do not turn off the detector at any time during the update process, otherwise the update will not be applied.
Download via XChange 2
- Log in to XChange 2 and connect the GPZ 7000 to a computer via USB. When the GPZ 7000 is connected to the PC and XChange 2 opens, the GPZ 7000 collection will be displayed.
- If an update is available, the 'Update available' icon will appear at the top of the screen. Click 'Update Available' next to the update icon to display the 'Updates Available' dialog.
- Select the GPZ 7000 in the 'Updates Available' dialog to begin downloading the software update file to your PC. A progress dialog will be displayed. Upon completion of the download, a dialog box will appear.
The XChange 2 interface displays detector collections, filter, sort, and settings options, with the GPZ 7000 selected. An 'Update available' icon is shown, with a clickable link for 'Update Available'. The 'Updates Available' dialog lists the GPZ 7000 for selection to download the software update. A progress bar indicates the download status, showing 'Wait while update is downloading 0%'. An information box states: 'Firmware transfer complete. Warning: Do not turn off the detector yet. Please disconnect the detector from the PC and follow the detector screen prompts to complete the update.'
Manual Download (PC or Mac)
If you are using a Mac, or have the software update file but no internet connection, you will need to transfer the update file to your detector manually.
- Connect the GPZ 7000 to your computer via USB. Connect the GPZ 7000 to the computer using the USB cable. A storage drive named 'Minelab' will appear.
- Transfer the software update file. Open the 'Minelab' drive and copy the software update file into it. Once the transfer is complete, proceed to 'Install the Update'.
The computer's file explorer shows a removable storage device named 'Minelab (E:)'.
Install the Update
Once you have finished transferring the software update file to the detector via XChange 2 or manually, you must update the GPZ 7000 firmware.
- Disconnect the detector from the computer. Disconnect the GPZ 7000 from the computer by ejecting the drive and unplugging the USB cable, in that order. The 'USB Disconnected' dialog will appear on the GPZ 7000 screen. This may take up to 2 minutes to complete.
- Update the GPZ 7000 Firmware. If an update file is found at this time, the following dialog will be displayed: 'Upgrade Firmware?'. Select 'Upgrade' to start the firmware update. A progress bar will be displayed.
- Update Completed. Once the update is complete, the GPZ 7000 will automatically turn off. When you turn it back on, the detector will start with the new firmware. If the update was applied correctly, the Quick-Trak guide sequence will show a yellow ferrite on the ground.
A prompt asks: 'Upgrade Firmware?' with 'Cancel' and 'Upgrade' buttons. A progress bar shows 'Upgrading Firmware... Do not power off or remove battery!' with a percentage indicator. If you select Cancel, the software update file you downloaded will be automatically deleted. You will need to download the update again (from step 1) to complete the process. If the Low Battery dialog appears, charge the battery and restart the update process.
You can also check your detector's software information at any time using the Version Information function on the Reset page.
Version information shows: Before Update: Control Panel: 1.0.8-57. After Update: Control Panel: 1.2.8-98.
Failed Update: If you experience any issues applying the update, try repeating the update steps from beginning to end. If this also does not resolve the issue, contact your dealer or a Minelab service center.
After successfully completing this step, proceed to 'Install the Update'.
An error dialog displays: 'Application update failed, try again.' with an OK button. Repeat steps 1 and 2 if this occurs.
