Microlife BP B6 Connect: Digital Blood Pressure Monitor

This document provides instructions for the Microlife BP B6 Connect blood pressure monitor.

About the Microlife BP B6 Connect

The Microlife BP B6 Connect is an oscillometric blood pressure monitor designed for non-invasive measurement of blood pressure and pulse rate in people aged 12 years and older. It is clinically validated for patients with various health conditions, including hypertension, diabetes, and pregnancy. The device features Atrial Fibrillation (AF) detection, which can indicate an irregular pulse suggestive of AF, though it is not intended for diagnosing AF. A diagnosis of AF requires ECG interpretation by a cardiologist.

Microlife AFIBsens technology is used for detecting AF and arterial hypertension, which are key risk factors for stroke and heart disease. Early detection and management are crucial.

Key Features and Technology

  • Atrial Fibrillation (AF) detection (active in MAM mode)
  • Bluetooth® connectivity for smartphone app integration (Microlife Connected Health+)
  • Stores up to 99 measurements per user
  • MAM (Microlife Average Mode) for triple measurement averaging
  • Clinical Blood Pressure Average (MyBP) and 28-day average
  • Traffic light indicator for BP classification
  • User-friendly interface with clear display

Preparation for Measurement

  • Sit on a chair with back support, keeping legs uncrossed.
  • Avoid thick or tight-fitting garments on the upper arm.
  • Ensure the arm is relaxed and supported at heart level.
  • Place the cuff 1-2 cm above the elbow, with the artery mark aligned over the brachial artery.
  • Fit the cuff snugly but not too tightly.
  • Avoid eating, bathing, smoking, or consuming caffeine for approximately 30 minutes before measurement.
  • Relax for 5-10 minutes before starting.
  • Measure before taking medication.

Taking a Blood Pressure Measurement

  1. Select User: Choose User 1 or User 2 using the user button.
  2. Select Mode: Choose between Standard (single measurement) or MAM (triple measurement) mode using the MAM switch.
  3. Start Measurement: Press the ON/OFF button. The cuff will inflate automatically.
  4. During Measurement: Remain still, breathe normally, and do not speak. The pulse indicator will flash.
  5. Results: Systolic, diastolic, and pulse rate are displayed after measurement. The traffic light indicator provides a quick BP classification.
  6. After Measurement: Remove the cuff and switch off the device (it auto-switches off after 1 minute).

Manual Inflation: For very high systolic pressure, manual inflation can be used by holding the ON/OFF button during inflation.

Stopping Measurement: Press ON/OFF button or open cuff at any time.

Not Storing a Reading: Press and hold ON/OFF until 'M' flashes, then confirm deletion with the Bluetooth/Time button.

Interpreting Your Blood Pressure

The device uses a traffic light indicator (8) to classify blood pressure readings:

  • Green: Normal blood pressure
  • Yellow: Elevated blood pressure
  • Red: High blood pressure

Classification is based on international guidelines (ESH, ESC, JSH). For example, 140/80 mmHg or 130/90 mmHg would be classified as 'blood pressure too high'.

The 'MyCheck' indicator (CT) compares the current reading to your stored average value, using arrows (↑, ↓, →) to show the trend.

Atrial Fibrillation (AF) Detection

The AFIB symbol (BM) indicates a possible irregular heartbeat detected during measurement. If the AFIB symbol appears, especially after multiple measurements, consult your doctor. AF diagnosis requires ECG interpretation.

Who should be screened for AF: Recommended for individuals over 65 years old, or over 50 with risk factors like high blood pressure, diabetes, or history of stroke. AF screening is generally not recommended for young people or during pregnancy.

Risk Factors: Early diagnosis and treatment of AF can significantly reduce stroke risk.

Data Memory

  • The device stores up to 99 measurements per user.
  • View Last 28 Days Average: Press M-button (3) to see the average of the last 28 days.
  • View Clinical BP Average (MyBP): Press M-button (3) briefly when the device is off to view the clinical average (requires 12 relevant readings in the last 28 days, taken during specific morning/evening hours).
  • View Stored Values: Press M-button repeatedly to cycle through saved measurements.
  • Clear All Values: Follow on-screen prompts to erase all stored data for the selected user.

Battery and Power

  • Battery Indicator: A flashing battery symbol (AS) indicates low or flat batteries. Replace batteries promptly.
  • Battery Replacement: Use 4 x 1.5V AA alkaline batteries. Ensure correct polarity.
  • Rechargeable Batteries: Compatible with NiMH rechargeable batteries. Recharge externally.
  • Mains Adapter: The device can be powered by a Microlife DC 6V, 600 mA mains adapter (optional).

Connectivity

  • Bluetooth® Function: Connects to smartphones via the Microlife Connected Health+ App. Activate Bluetooth® manually or it activates automatically after measurement. Pairing and setup are required. Visit www.microlife.com/connect for details.
  • PC-Link: Data can be transferred to a PC using Microlife Blood Pressure Analyzer+ (BPA+) software. Download software from www.microlife.com/software.

Error Messages

The device displays error codes if issues occur during measurement. Common errors include:

  • Err 1: Signal too weak. Re-position cuff.
  • Err 2: Movement or muscle tension detected. Keep arm still.
  • Err 3: Abnormal cuff pressure (leak or improper fit). Check connection, replace batteries if needed.
  • Err 5: Inaccurate signals. Review measurement checklist.
  • Err 6: Too many errors in MAM mode. Review checklist.
  • HI: High pulse or cuff pressure. Relax and repeat.
  • LO: Low pulse. Repeat measurement.
  • Bluetooth Problem: Icon flashes. Visit www.microlife.com/connect.

Consult your doctor if errors persist.

Safety, Care, and Disposal

  • Safety: Follow all instructions. Use only for intended purpose. Handle device and cuff with care. Do not use if damaged. Keep away from children. Measurement results are not a diagnosis.
  • Contra-indications: Do not use on injured limbs, with poor circulation, or on patients younger than 12 years. Consult doctor for advice regarding significant cardiac arrhythmia.
  • Warnings: Avoid prolonged cuff pressure, use in oxygen-rich environments, water immersion, or near flammable gas.
  • Caution: Do not use near high-frequency medical equipment. Observe temperature and humidity conditions.
  • Device Care: Clean the device with a soft, dry cloth. The cuff cover is washable (hand wash only, max 30°C). Do not machine wash or dry the cuff. Do not wash the inner bladder.
  • Accuracy Test: Recommended every 2 years or after impact. Contact Microlife-Service.
  • Disposal: Dispose of batteries and electronic devices according to local regulations.
