Important Safety Instructions
WARNING: When using electric appliances, always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock and personal injury.
- Read and follow all instructions before using this appliance.
- WARNING: To reduce the risk of electric shock, do not expose to rain. Store indoors.
- Do not leave the appliance connected to a power source. Unplug when not in use and before servicing.
- Do not allow the appliance to be used as a toy. Pay close attention when used by or near children.
- Use this appliance ONLY as described in the manual. Use only DEWALT recommended attachments.
- Do not use with a damaged cord or plug. If not working correctly, or if dropped, damaged, left outdoors, or dropped in water, return to a service center.
- Do not pull or carry by the cord, use the cord as a handle, close a door on the cord, or pull the cord around sharp edges or corners. Do not run the appliance over the cord. Keep cord away from heated surfaces.
- Do not unplug by pulling on the cord; grasp the plug.
- Do not handle the plug or appliance with wet hands.
- Do not put any objects into the openings. Do not use with any opening blocked; keep free of dust, lint, hair and anything else that may reduce air flow.
- Keep hair, loose clothing, fingers, and all body parts away from openings and moving parts.
- Turn off all controls before unplugging.
- Take extra care when cleaning on stairs.
- Do not use to pick up flammable or combustible liquids (e.g., gasoline) or in areas where they are present.
- Static shocks are possible in dry areas or when relative humidity is low. This is temporary and does not affect use. To reduce static shocks, add moisture to the air with a humidifier or use an anti-static hose.
- To avoid spontaneous combustion, empty the dust tank after each use.
Additional Safety Rules
- WARNING: Do not pick up anything that is burning or smoking, such as cigarettes, matches, or hot ashes.
- Do not vacuum combustible explosive materials (e.g., coal, grain).
- Do not vacuum hazardous, toxic or carcinogenic materials (e.g., asbestos, pesticide).
- Never vacuum explosive liquids (e.g., gasoline, diesel fuel, heating oil, paint thinner), acids or solvents.
- Do not use vacuum without filters in place.
- Some wood contains preservatives which can be toxic. Take extra care to prevent inhalation and skin contact. Follow safety information from the material supplier.
- Do not use vacuum as a step ladder.
- Do not place heavy objects on vacuum.
- Use extension cords with adequate wire size (AWG) for safety. The smaller the gauge number, the greater the capacity. An undersized cord can cause voltage drop, loss of power, and overheating. When using multiple extension cords, ensure each meets the minimum wire size. Refer to the table for correct size. If in doubt, use the next heavier gauge.
- Extension cords used outdoors must be marked with the suffix W-A or W (e.g., SJTW-A).

Operating Instructions
Unpacking & Set-Up Summary
- Pull lid latches outward, remove power head and accessories.
- Attach casters following manual instructions.
- Ensure proper filter is installed before replacing power head.
- Replace power head, ensuring lid latches snap securely.
- Insert hose end into tank inlet.
- Attach extension wands to hose.
- Attach cleaning accessories to extension wands.
- Plug cord into wall outlet. Vacuum is ready.
Caster Assembly
- Invert dust tank, align casters with mounting points, and secure with screws.
- Return dust tank assembly upright.
Dry Pick-Up
- The filter must be correctly positioned to prevent leaks and damage. Ensure the filter completely covers the filter cage with no gaps.
- For very fine dust, empty the tank and clean/replace the filter more frequently.
- A dry filter is necessary for dry material. A wet filter will clog quickly and be difficult to clean. Replace if wet.
Installing the Cartridge Filter
The cartridge filter can be used for wet or dry pick-up.
- With the power head upside down, slide the cartridge filter down over the lid cage, ensuring seals contact the power head.
- Turn the filter retainer knob clockwise to tighten.
- To remove, turn the knob counter-clockwise until you feel a tactile/auditory cue and the knob arrow aligns with the "Unlock" icon. Slide the filter off the cage.
- To clean, shake or brush off excess dirt, or rinse from the inside with water. Dry completely (approx. 24 hours) before re-installing.
Installing the Disposable Filter Bag
- Slide the cardboard collar opening firmly onto the vacuum port deflector.
- Position the bag around the inside of the tank.
- Replace and secure the power head onto the tank.
Wet Pick-Up
- Remove all dirt and debris from the tank.
- Remove the dry use filter. A clean cartridge filter can be used for small amounts of liquids.
- For best results with large quantities of liquid, remove the cartridge filter.
- When vacuuming liquids with debris, a foam filter is recommended.
- If the cartridge filter is not removed during wet pick-up, it may become saturated and cause misting in the exhaust.
- After wet pick-up, raise the hose to drain excess liquid into the tank before shutting off. The tank interior should be cleaned periodically.
- Always disconnect the power cord before removing the power head.
- Shake excess dust off the cartridge filter with a rapid up and down movement.
- NOTICE: Wet pick-up accessories should be washed periodically, especially after picking up wet, sticky fluids or spills. Use a warm solution of soap and water.
This wet/dry vac has a float mechanism that automatically cuts off airflow when the liquid reaches a predetermined level. When this happens, turn off the vac, unplug the power cord, and empty the tank. Suction will cease, and motor noise may increase.
IMPORTANT: To reduce the risk of damage, do not run the motor with the float in the raised position.
NOTICE: If accidentally tipped over, the vacuum could lose suction. If this occurs, place the vac upright and turn the switch OFF. This allows the float to return to its normal position.
Emptying the Tank
WARNING: To reduce the risk of injury from accidental starting, unplug the power cord before emptying the dust tank.
- Remove the power head assembly by pulling outward on the lid clips.
- Dump the tank contents into a proper waste disposal container.
Blowing Operation
- WARNING: Always wear safety goggles complying with ANSI Z87.1 (or CSA Z94.3) when using as a blower.
- WARNING: To avoid injury to bystanders, keep them clear of blowing debris.
- CAUTION: Wear a dust mask if blowing creates dust that might be inhaled.
- CAUTION: Wear ear protectors for extended use in noisy areas.
To use the vac as a blower:
- Locate the blowing port on the vac.
- Insert one end of the 1-7/8 in. x 7 ft. hose into the blowing port.
- Turn the vac ON.
Care and Maintenance
Filter Replacement
- WARNING: Unplug power cord before changing or cleaning the filter. Clean the filter often to maintain peak performance.
- WARNING: Do not remove the filter cage and float. The float prevents water from entering the impeller and damaging the motor. The cage prevents fingers from touching the moving impeller.
- IMPORTANT: Always reinstall the Clean Connect™ filter before using the vac for dry or wet pick-ups to avoid damage to the blower wheel and motor.
- IMPORTANT: After cleaning, check the filter for tears or small holes. Replace immediately if damaged.
- NOTICE: Clean the area of the lid before installing the filter to ensure a proper seal. Replace the filter on the filter cage if clean and undamaged. If not reusable, use a new filter.
- NOTICE: Clean the filter in an open area, outdoors.
Cleaning
- Clean the exterior with a cloth dampened with warm water and mild soap.
- To clean the tank: Dump out debris, wash with warm water and mild soap, and wipe dry.
Storage
- Empty and clean the dust tank before storing.
- Wrap and hang the cord. Store accessories in a mesh bag.
- Store the vacuum indoors.
Troubleshooting
Minor problems can often be fixed without calling customer service.
