Assemble the printer

1. Install Z-axis profiles left and right

Attach the left and right Z-axis profiles to the base. Ensure the correct orientation (inside/outside, short/long sides) as indicated. Use M5x45 screws for this step.

2. Install the display screen and power supply

Mount the display screen to the front of the printer using M5x8 screws. Attach the power supply unit to the side using M4x20 screws. Ensure a small gap is left between the display screen and the frame.

3. Install the Z-axis motor and Z Screw rod

Install the Z-axis motor and the Z Screw rod. When installing the Screw Rod, ensure it remains vertical. Use M4x18 screws to secure the Z motor and tighten the screw for the rod.

4. Assemble the X-axis kit

Assemble the X-axis components, including the Extrusion Kit (print head assembly) and the Z-axis passive slider, onto the X-axis Profile. Use M4X16 screws and align them with the large screw holes.

5. Install the X-axis kit and top gantry profile

Mount the assembled X-axis kit onto the top gantry profile. Rotate the z-axis screw rod and press down to align. Secure the components using screws, and attach the 20 Profile End Caps.

6. Install the filament rack

Assemble the filament rack. Embed the Ship-type Nut into the designated slot and then tighten the M5x8 screws. Note that the pre-installed boat nuts should not be tightened yet.

7. Install the X-axis belt and belt adjuster

Route the X-axis belt around the pulleys, ensuring the gear faces are oriented correctly (down for one, up for the other). Attach the belt to the print head. Install the belt adjuster, but do not tighten it fully at this stage. Use pre-installed boat nuts for securing.

8. Install X, Z, E Motor Cables and Limit Switch Cables

Connect the motor cables (X, Y, Z, E) and limit switch cables to their respective ports on the mainboard. Ensure all connections are secure. Pay attention to the filament sensor interface and display screen interface.

Leveling Bed

Proper bed leveling is crucial for print quality. Ensure there is no residual filament on the nozzle, as this can affect accuracy. Before auto-leveling, verify that the height error across the four corners of the print platform is less than 5 mm.

  1. Before leveling: Select 'Restore Default settings' and then 'Store Settings' to save the current configuration.
  2. Leveling: Select 'Level Bed' and then 'Probe Z Offset'. Adjust the Z Offset to match the thickness of an A4 sheet of paper between the nozzle and the print platform. Once adjusted, click 'Store settings'.
  3. During printing: You can fine-tune the nozzle height by selecting 'Probe Z Offset' again to achieve the best printing effect.

Filament Extrusion Indicators:

  • ❌ Nozzle too far: Filament does not stick to the platform.
  • ✔️ Just right: Filament is evenly extruded and sticks properly.
  • ❗ Nozzle too close: Filament extrusion is insufficient, potentially damaging the platform.

Loading the Filament

  1. Loading: Trim the filament end at a 45-degree angle. Press the filament until it passes the detection hole. Hold the extruder handle and insert the filament into the Teflon tube until it reaches the nozzle. Warm up the nozzle; if filament flows out at the target temperature, it is loaded correctly.
  2. Replacing filament (when printer is not printing):
    • Heat the nozzle to 185°C or higher to soften the filament. Press and hold the extruder handle to quickly extract the filament, preventing heat break clogs.
    • Pause printing. After the printer stops, press and hold the extruder handle to quickly extract the filament.
    • Place the new filament onto the rack, press it through the detector, hold the extruder handle, and insert the filament into the nozzle. Push the filament to expel residual filament and clean the nozzle before resuming printing.

Model Slicing Tutorial

Follow these steps to prepare your 3D models for printing using slicing software:

  1. Download & Install: Scan the QR code provided or locate the Creality software on your memory card and install it.
  2. Configure Software: Navigate to Preferences → Configure Creality → Select language → Next → Finish to complete the initial setup.
  3. Select Printer Model: Choose 'Creality Ender-3 E' from the list of available printers.
  4. Enter Parameters: Input the necessary printer parameters and close the settings window.
  5. Launch Slicer: Start the Creality slicing software.
  6. Load File: Load your 3D model file (e.g., STL format).
  7. Select File: Choose the loaded model file.
  8. Generate G-code: Generate the G-code file and save it to your memory card.
  9. Print: Insert the memory card into the printer. Select 'Print' from the menu, then choose the file you prepared.

Important Notes:

  • Do not insert any leveling codes into the G-code, as this may cause conflicts.
  • For detailed software usage, refer to the slicing software user manual found on the memory card. Slicing tips can be found in the 'Random Information' folder under 'Slicing software instructions'.
  • File names must contain only Latin letters and digits. Avoid Chinese characters or special symbols.

Start Printing

Before initiating a print, perform the following checks:

When the printer is powered off:

  1. Ensure the nozzle is tightly connected and moves smoothly left and right.
  2. Verify the X-axis is horizontal, stable, and moves smoothly up and down.
  3. Confirm the Y-axis is tightly connected, the platform is stable, and moves smoothly back and forth.
  4. Check that the filament rack is stable, the rollers are smooth, and filament extrusion is smooth.

When the printer is powered on:

Ensure the correct voltage mode is selected on the power supply.

  1. The screen display and knob should function correctly, and the X, Y, and Z axes should move smoothly.
  2. The nozzle and hotbed should heat up properly.
  3. The filament feed and return mechanism should operate correctly.
