Important Safety Information

⚠️ IMPORTANT

Improper installation, adjustment, alteration, service, or maintenance can cause personal injury, loss of life, or damage to property. Installation and service must be performed by a licensed professional installer (or equivalent) or a service agency.

Overview

Firmware updating is available using the M4 Unit Controller USB port. The following procedures detail how to update the M4 Unit controller firmware.

Confirming Current M4 Unit Controller Firmware Version

Using the CORE Service app, navigate to MENU > RTU MENU > SERVICE > FIRMWARE UPDATE. The current firmware version will be displayed at the top of the screen.

[The CORE Service app displays the 'Firmware Update' screen, showing the 'Current Firmware Information' at the top.]

Files Needed for Update

To upgrade the M4 unit controller from a USB flash drive, you will need the file: COREXXXXXXXX.C1F.

Note: All uppercase is recommended but not mandatory. The 'xxxxxxxx' are placeholders for major and minor versions and build number information, which vary with each file name and version.

Creating Folder Structure on USB Drive

  1. Create a folder named "Firmware" on the root of the USB flash drive.
  2. Create a sub-folder named "M4" inside the "Firmware" folder.
  3. Place a copy of the COREXXXXXXXX.C1F file into the "M4" sub-folder.

Preparing USB Flash Drive

USB flash drive media must be formatted using the FAT32 file system. A recommended USB flash drive capacity is up to a maximum of 32GB.

Updating Firmware

  1. Insert the USB flash drive into the CORE Unit Controller USB port.
  2. Use the CORE Service app to update the firmware. Navigate to MENU > RTU MENU > SERVICE > FIRMWARE UPDATE and select the "Upgrade from USB" option.
  3. The next screen will display the firmware version available on the USB flash drive. To proceed, select "Install".
  4. The subsequent screen will display the firmware update status.
  5. After the firmware update is completed, a confirmation screen will appear indicating the update is finished and the system will reboot.
  6. Once the unit controller has rebooted and the CORE Service app has reconnected, it is recommended to repeat steps 1 and 2 to verify the firmware has been updated.

Note: Firmware information is also displayed on the unit controller's seven-segment display during boot-up, listed in the order: Major, Minor, Build.

Note: Firmware updates do not alter unit controller configuration settings. All settings will be retained after the firmware has been updated.

Note: A firmware upgrade typically takes 10 to 15 minutes.

[The CORE Service app presents the 'Firmware Update' screen with options for 'CLOUD FIRMWARE UPDATE' and 'USB FIRMWARE UPDATE'. The user selects 'Upgrade from USB'. The 'USB Firmware Update' screen lists available versions from the USB drive; the user selects a version (e.g., '09.00.0318') and taps 'Install'. The app then shows progress screens like 'Updating Firmware from USB 09.00.0318 is Downloading' and 'Updating Firmware from USB 09.00.0318 Package is being Verified'. Upon completion, a confirmation screen indicates the update is finished, and the system will reboot.]

Saving and Loading System Profile

Saving System Profile

This functionality saves a "profile" on the controller, acting as a restore point. This is useful if the controller is configured incorrectly or loses its configuration. The profile is created from parameters already saved on the controller. No external file sourcing (USB, mobile app) is needed; the user simply clicks save, and the controller saves the parameters internally.

  1. Insert a compatible USB storage device.
  2. In the CORE Service app, navigate to RTU MENU > REPORT and select SYSTEM PROFILE.
  3. Enter a unique name for the profile in the PROFILE NAME field.
  4. Choose SAVE under either MOBILE or USB, depending on your preference.
  5. If MOBILE is selected, your device will prompt you to choose a save location.

Note: If the CORE Service App indicates the unit controller cannot read the USB storage device, remove and reinsert the USB storage device and try saving the profile again.

Loading System Profile

  1. Insert the USB storage device containing the saved System profile, or proceed if you have a system profile saved on your mobile device.
  2. Navigate to SERVICE > REPORT. Choose LOAD under mobile or USB, depending on where your system profile is saved.
  3. Select the desired System Profile using the CORE Service app. If loading from USB, select NEXT to continue. A successful process will be indicated by "System Profile Loaded".

Note: The CORE Service app might indicate that the unit controller cannot read the USB storage device or that it is missing. Remove and reinsert the USB storage device and attempt to load the System Profile again. If the issue persists, all data will need to be entered manually.
