BCP Setting Tool Custom Language Manual

8th Edition: September, 2022

Toshiba Tec Corporation

1. Introduction

Thank you for purchasing the "BCP Setting Tool", a setting tool for the label printers of Toshiba Tec Corporation (hereinafter referred to as "Toshiba Tec"). This document gives you a general description of the "BCP Setting Tool" including the editing function of custom language.

Custom Language

Custom Language refers to displaying the BCP Setting Tool in a language other than Japanese, English and Chinese. This BCP Setting Tool has a feature to edit the custom language function.

2. Custom Language

When you click [Option...] at the right end of the header view, the display language can be changed on the option screen displayed. When Custom is selected in the same manner as that for Japanese, English and Chinese, the printer reboots and the language is changed to the custom one.

The Custom Language function has a custom language file. This language file is installed while setting English as the default at the first installation of the BCP Setting Tool which supports this function. The custom language file is not deleted even if an uninstallation is carried out. When an upgrade installation is carried out, the edited custom language file and upgraded definitions and messages are merged automatically. These upgraded definitions and messages are added to the custom language file in English. In addition, when the custom language file is imported, merging is performed automatically.

[Screenshot Description: The BCP Setting Tool interface is shown, featuring a menu bar (File, Edit, View, Custom Language, Help) and an "Option..." button in the header. The main window displays printer details like model (B-EX4T1-G/T), interface, and a list of parameters.]

3. Import, Export and Initialization

Importing of the custom language file

  • Printer definition and message files: From the menu, select [Custom Language] > [Importing custom language file...] to display the file selection screen. Then choose the file to import. Only a file exported by the Export option of Custom Language can be imported.
  • OpenTypeFont license agreement: From the menu, select [Custom Language] > [Importing custom language file...] to display the file selection screen. Select [License file(*.rtf)] for the file type and choose the file to import.

Exporting of the custom language file

  • Printer definition and message files: From the menu, select [Custom Language] > [Exporting custom language file...] to display the file selection screen. Then choose the file to export. All printer definition and message files are imported by one file.
  • OpenTypeFont license agreement: From the menu, select [Custom Language] > [Exporting custom language file...], to display the file selection screen. Select [License file(*.rtf)] for the file type and choose the file to export.

Initialize custom language file

From the menu, select [Custom Language] > [Initialize custom language file] to display the confirmation screen. Clicking "Yes" initializes the custom language file, changing the language to English.

Note: When the custom file is imported, the custom language is compared. If there is a difference in the number of options for setting items, the custom language for all concerned setting items will be changed to English. (Import of the custom language file is carried out when this tool is updated.)

4. Edition of Custom Language

Click [Option...] at the right end of the header view to open the Option screen. Pressing [Ctrl], [Alt], [Shift], and [Z] simultaneously while this screen is displayed, reveals the [Language] tab.

Edition of the security category

Edit the item name text for messages displayed during parameter import and export. Click [Security Item] and edit the security item name text.

[Screenshot Description: The BCP Setting Tool XML Editor shows the 'Security Item' section. A dialog box prompts for confirmation regarding including security items like 'System Mode Password', 'WEP Key', etc.]

5. Edition of message data

The text displayed on common screens, error messages, and warning message boxes of the BCP Setting Tool can be edited.

[Save]: Saves edited data. Changes are reflected when [Custom] is selected for the BCP Setting Tool's display language and the printer is rebooted.

[Restore all to English]: Cancels edited data and returns the language to English.

For details on display location and meaning of messages, refer to "5. Message Text".

Note on Message Formatting:

  • For multi-line messages (e.g., error messages), "\r\n" represents a line break. Input "\r\n" to insert a new line during editing.
  • Values in braces, such as {0} and {1}, are program variables. When editing, include these variables with their braces before the text. These variable orders must not be changed.

Example:

Before: The entered value for "{1}" on the {0} tab page is incorrect.
Enter a {2:0}-digit character.

After: {0}"{1}"
{2:0}

[Screenshot Description: A dialog box shows an example of editing a message. The 'Before' state shows an English message with variables and a Japanese translation. The 'After' state shows the edited message structure. Another dialog box illustrates an incorrect input for "USB Serial Number" and the requirement for a 12-digit character.]

Edition of License Agreement

The License Agreement for downloading OpenTypeFont cannot be edited by this tool. Follow these steps:

  • Click [Custom Language] > [Exporting custom language file...].
  • Select [License file (*.rtf)] for the file type, specify the file name, and export.
  • The exported file is in Rich Text Format (.rtf) and can be edited using a Word processor.
