RV Manufacturers We Work With
How Solar Works
Go Power! solar kits charge your RV's battery bank to power DC appliances like lights and fans. Solar also extends battery life by maintaining a healthy charge level.
System Components:
- Solar Panels: Convert the sun's energy into electricity to charge the battery bank. Panels can be mounted on RV rooftops or used in portable kits.
- Batteries: High-efficiency batteries serve as the system's DC power reservoir, storing electricity generated by the solar panels.
- Solar Controller: Regulates the electricity flow from solar panels to batteries, protecting them from overcharging damage.
- Power Draw: DC appliances (lights, fans, water pumps) draw power from the RV battery bank.
Solar FAQs
- How long can I run my appliances or electronics on solar?
- Appliances do not run directly on solar. The duration depends on the amp consumption per hour and the battery bank size. Use the Solar Sizing Calculator on gpelectric.com for recommendations.
- What is the difference between DC and AC power?
- DC (direct current) power comes from a battery and powers 12-volt RV appliances (lights, water pumps). AC (alternating current) power, like household power, can be replicated using an inverter to convert 12-volt DC battery power into 120-volt AC power for devices like TVs, hair dryers, or coffee makers.
- Can I run my TV, refrigerator, or water pump with solar?
- Many RV refrigerators run on DC, propane, or AC. Solar panels charge batteries, enabling DC fridge operation and powering the water pump. Many TVs require a small inverter to run on 120-volt AC power.
- Do I need an inverter to charge my boat or RV battery with a solar panel?
- No, an inverter is only needed if you require AC household power for devices like TVs, tool chargers, or microwaves. It converts DC battery power to AC power.
