Bormann Pro Sandblaster
Models: BWR5200, BWR5201
Safety Instructions
Before opening the tank, release the air pressure. Turn off the air supply valve (19) and open the nozzle valve (19C) to release pressure in the line. Ensure the tank pressure gauge (16) reads zero before opening the tank.
Maintain correct air pressure: Pressure should not exceed 125 PSI. If it does, the safety valve (11) should release excess pressure. If it does not, stop work immediately and use the air compressor to reduce pressure. Do not investigate pressure issues until the gauge reads zero.
Assembly of the Sandblaster
Refer to the provided diagrams for assembly steps. The process involves:
- Assembling the intake manifold (15), attaching the pressure gauge (16) and throttling valve (9A).
- Assembling the water trap filler (18) with nipple connectors (17), air supply valve (19), and male/female connector (20).
- Placing the tank (01) and attaching the assembled intake manifold and water trap filler.
- Assembling the sand outlet valve at the bottom of the tank, including nipple connector (17), sand metering valve (19B), and sand outlet pipe (23).
- Assembling the nozzle shut-off valve (19C), adapter (26), nipple connector (17), gasket (27), nozzle (28), and nozzle cap nut (29).
- Connecting the sand metering valve assembly to the nozzle shut-off assembly using the sand hose (25) and hose clamps (24).
- Fastening the handlebars (06) to the tank.
- Attaching the wheels (02) to the axle (05) and securing them.
- Installing the foot (04) onto the tank.
- Double-checking all connections for tightness and proper seating before operation.
Diagrams illustrating these steps are provided in the original document.
Abrasive Selection
The type of abrasive significantly influences cleaning time. Materials include silicon carbide, alumina, silica sand, bank sand, and beach sand. Bank and beach sands may contain organic materials and absorb moisture, potentially clogging the sand metering valve. Used sand wears down and becomes less effective, requiring replacement.
Loading Abrasives into the Tank
- Ensure abrasive is dry.
- Wear protective clothing.
- Turn air supply valve (19) to OFF (horizontal).
- Open nozzle shut-off valve (19C) (vertical).
- Ensure pressure gauge (16) reads zero.
- Remove filler cap (13).
- Insert funnel (30) and pour abrasive into the tank. Fill tank only 3/4 full for large jobs, and reload as needed.
- If humidity is high (90-100%), reduce abrasive quantity and empty water trap more frequently to prevent clogging.
- Close filler cap (13) once the correct amount of abrasive is loaded.
- Close nozzle shut-off valve (19C) and open air supply valve (19).
- Check for air leaks at the filler cap when pressurizing the tank.
Maintenance
Protect your air compressor by keeping it in a separate room or upwind from the sandblasting operation. Continue standard compressor maintenance procedures.
Some sandblaster parts wear faster than others, particularly those carrying the air/abrasive mixture (sand hose (25), metal fittings, shut-off valve (19C), ceramic nozzles (28)).
If air leaks develop, stop work and repair or replace the faulty part. Inspect the sand hose (25) for wear (1/4" wall thickness when new) by feeling for leaks while the system is pressurized and the nozzle valve is closed. Look for blisters on the hose, indicating thinning walls; replace the hose immediately if blisters are found or if a blister breaks.
Technical Data

Air Supply Requirements
Sandblasting requires a large volume of air at high pressure. Efficiency can be affected by insufficient air supply hose size, insufficient air pressure, or an oversized nozzle.
Hose interior diameter | Hose length | Nozzle interior diameter | Compressor horsepower | CFM 125PSI | Sand use per hour |
---|---|---|---|---|---|
3/8" | 50" | 0.10" | 2 | 6 | 60 Lbs |
3/8" | 25" | 0.125" | 4 | 12 | 100 Lbs |
1/2" | 50" | 0.150" | 7 | 20 | 150 Lbs |
1/2" | 25" | 0.175" | 10 | 25 | 200 Lbs |
For best results, air pressure should be within the range of 65-125 PSI.
Important Safety Instructions
WARNING: When using tools like an air compressor, always follow basic safety precautions to reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, and personal injury. Review your air compressor's safety instructions before sandblasting.
WARNING: Read all instructions before using this machine!
- Keep the work area clean.
- Consider the work area environment: avoid damp, wet, or poorly lit locations. Ensure good lighting. Do not use compressors near flammable gases or liquids.
- Keep children away from the work area. Do not let them handle tools, hoses, or extension cords. Ensure anyone in the sandblasting area has appropriate protective equipment.
- Dress properly: wear protective clothing (hood, dust mask, heavy-duty gloves) due to dust and abrasive hazards.
- Periodically inspect sand-carrying components for wear.
- Secure the work piece with clamps or a vise if it is small or light.
- Don't overreach; maintain proper footing and balance.
- Maintain tools with care, following lubrication and component replacement instructions.
- Disconnect air compressor power when not in use, before servicing, or when changing components.
- Avoid unintentional starting: ensure the nozzle valve is in the OFF position when not in use.
- Stay alert: watch what you are doing, use common sense, and do not operate when tired.
- Use only identical replacement parts when servicing.
