3. Important Safety Instructions
Warning: Basic safety precautions must be observed to prevent injury. Read and follow all safety instructions.
- Do not attempt to repair the appliance yourself if it has a damaged cord or plug, is malfunctioning, or has been dropped or damaged. The power cord cannot be replaced; if damaged, the appliance should be discarded. Never cut the cord.
- Always unplug or disconnect all aquarium appliances from the electricity supply before placing hands in water, putting on/taking off parts, or when installing, maintaining, or handling the equipment.
- Never yank the cord to pull the plug from the outlet. Grasp the plug and pull to disconnect. Always unplug an appliance when not in use.
- Do not install or store the appliance where it will be exposed to weather or temperatures below freezing. For indoor household use only. Do not immerse.
- Ensure the appliance is mounted correctly and securely positioned on the aquarium before operating.
- If an extension cord is necessary, use one with a proper rating. A cord rated for less amperage or wattage than the appliance rating may overheat. Arrange the cord to prevent tripping or pulling. Connections should be made by a qualified electrical installer.
- The socket-outlet should be installed near the equipment and be easily accessible.
- Drip Loop: To prevent water from dripping onto the receptacle or plug, arrange a "drip loop" for the cord connecting the appliance to the receptacle. This loop should be below the level of the receptacle to prevent water from traveling along the cord and contacting the receptacle. If the plug or receptacle gets wet, do not unplug the cord. Disconnect the fuse or circuit breaker supplying power to the appliance, then unplug and examine for water.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with impaired physical or mental capabilities unless supervised or instructed by a person responsible for their safety. Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
