Local Installation Regulations: Installation must comply with instructions, local codes, utility codes, utility company requirements, and the latest edition of the National Electrical Code (NFPA 70).

Power Requirements: Verify power supply matches the rating plate on the water heater.

Location: Install in a clean, dry area near the point of greatest heated water demand. Long uninsulated hot water lines waste energy and water. The room must be at least 10' x 10' x 7' (700 cubic feet) or larger. If the room is smaller, a louvered door with 240 square inches (0.15m²) or greater of open-air-flow area is required. Ensure access for servicing, including filter removal and cleaning. Protect from freezing temperatures and corrosive atmospheres. Do not install outdoors.

Clearance Requirements:

• Front & Back: 7" clearance with a minimum 7" air space between the unit and any object.
• Sides: 7" clearance on each side.
• Top Filter Removal: 8" clearance required at the top to remove the filter. Ensure plumbing and electrical connections do not impede filter removal.

Condensate Drain Required: A primary drain pipe must be installed at the top right side of the water heater to carry away condensate.

Water Supply Connections:

• Unions or flexible copper connectors are recommended for HOT and COLD water connections for easy servicing.
• Connections are 3/4" NPT on all models.
• Install a shut-off valve in the COLD water line near the water heater for easier maintenance.
• Important: Do not apply heat directly to the HOT or COLD water connections. If using sweat connections, sweat the adapter to the tubing before fitting to the heater to avoid damaging the dip tube.

Installation Checklist

1. Tank Location: Verify room size requirements (ventilation/airflow), back and side clearances, and front access. Ensure the unit is level; use shims if necessary.
2. Air Filters: Confirm air filters are installed on the product.
3. Plumbing Connections: Check for leaks after filling the tank. Ensure filter removal is not obstructed. Install a shut-off valve and leak detect sensor.
4. Condensate Lines: Verify the main drain line is installed and directed to a drain or pump. Avoid reducer fittings.
5. Temperature & Pressure Relief Valve: Confirm the valve is working and the drain line is completed according to local code.
6. Electrical: For 120V models, verify connection to a standard 120VAC outlet with a 10ft electrical cord. Units operate on a 15A shared circuit and convert to 120V on a 20A dedicated circuit. For 240V models, verify connection to 208/240 VAC.
7. Electrical Connection: Ensure the electrical connection does not prevent air filter removal.
8. Control Panel: Verify the control panel displays 120°F (49°C) Hybrid mode. Assist user with temperature and mode adjustments.
9. SmartHQ™ App: Download the app and connect the appliance to WiFi/Bluetooth®.

Normal Startup - What to Expect After Pressing the Power Button

Note: The heat pump operating range is 35°F to 120°F (2°C to 49°C). If the ambient temperature is outside this range, the heat pump turns off, and electric elements are used until the ambient temperature returns to within the operating range.
