Wattstopper Lighting Integrator Panel Installation Instructions
Model Numbers: LI8, LI24, LI48
Brand: Wattstopper (by Legrand)
Introduction
The Lighting Integrator (LI) is a relay-based automatic lighting control panel. It manages lighting through scenarios, time schedules, occupancy sensors, daylighting sensors, photocells, and occupant-controlled switches. Multiple LI panels can be networked and controlled by a clock, building management system, or central computer.
WARNING: RISK OF ELECTRIC SHOCK.
Each panel requires an interior assembly and an enclosure, which may ship separately. The interior assembly provides isolation between line and low-voltage sections, and houses relays, the power supply, and circuit boards. The low-voltage area features LEDs for relay status and manual push-buttons for individual relay control and smartwiring. Smartwiring allows for easy push-button relay grouping for convenient control of individual relays, groups, or channels.
A secure outer cover protects the high-voltage area after installation. The following pages illustrate component locations for 8-relay and 48-relay panels, though not all components may be fitted in every panel.
Important Installation Notices:
- Turn off all power before wiring, installation, or service.
- Multiple disconnects may be needed to de-energize the LI.
- External circuit protection (e.g., circuit breaker) is required.
- Installation must comply with all applicable regulations, wiring practices, and codes.
- Separate high-voltage power from low-voltage (Class 2) control wiring.
- Do not energize wiring until the unit is fully assembled and tested for shorts.
WARNING: IMPROPER INSTALLATION OR CONNECTION OF THIS PANEL MAY RESULT IN SERIOUS PERSONAL INJURY AND/OR DAMAGE TO THE PANEL AND OTHER DEVICES.
Before installation, read these instructions completely. For questions, contact Technical Support at 800.879.8585.

Enclosure Dimensions:
Diagrams show dimensions for various enclosure models (LENC8S, LENC8F, LENC24S, LENC24F, LENC48S, LENC48F, LENC8-24S, LENC8-24F, LENC24-48S, LENC24-48F), detailing height, width, and depth, and indicating the separation of line voltage and low voltage sections.
C. Connect the AC Power Supply to Power Source
The LI panel supports 115VAC, 240VAC, 277VAC, or 347VAC line voltages and operates at 50 or 60 Hz. The power supply has internal overcurrent protection and MOVs for surge protection. It automatically shuts off when overloaded and resets when the fault is removed.
WARNING: VERIFY WHETHER YOUR SUPPLY LINE VOLTAGE IS 115VAC, 240VAC, 277VAC, OR 347VAC AND THAT THE POWER SUPPLY IN THIS PANEL MATCHES THAT LINE VOLTAGE. WIRING TO THE INCORRECT VOLTAGE TERMINAL MAY RESULT IN DAMAGE TO THE POWER SUPPLY AND/OR THE PANEL, AND WILL VOID THE PRODUCT WARRANTY.
Connect to ONLY ONE of the specified supply voltage terminals. Match your input voltage to the correct terminal.

Each diagram illustrates terminals for Line, Neutral (NEU), and Ground (GND) connections.
D. Connect Load and Line Voltage to Relays
Ensure no load circuits are shorted before connecting to relays. Route conductors from the circuit breaker through each relay's SPST output terminals to the loads. Verify each circuit is wired to the specified relay according to electrical construction drawings and relay schedule forms.
Power Up and Test Relays:
- Apply power to the LI power supply ONLY. Do NOT apply power to controlled circuit loads.
- Locate the relay control buttons on the Relay Driver card next to each relay's 5-wire plug-in termination.
- Press the relay control button to toggle the relay ON/OFF. The relay clicks, its mechanical override switch moves, and the LED status indicator changes.
- Confirm operation by measuring continuity at the line voltage terminations of each relay.
- Apply power to the relays.
- Carefully toggle each relay ON/OFF again (avoiding line voltage wiring) and confirm it controls the appropriate load.
Relay Schedule Form (Figure 7): A table is provided for documenting panel wiring, including Panel ID, Relay Circuit Description, Load Controlled, and Group Switch Card Channel/Function.
Relay Control Button (Figure 8): Depicts the button used to control relays.
E. Low Voltage (Class 2) Wiring
The low-voltage (Class 2) section provides terminal connections for optional switches and devices. All wiring entering this section must be Class 2. Line voltage conductors must not pass through this section.
Individual relays can be controlled by hardwiring switches or sensors to the Relay Driver card connectors. Multiple relays can be grouped for single-switch/sensor control via a Group Switching card. Up to 8 groups (A-H) are available per Group Switching card, and a 48-relay panel can support two cards for up to 16 group channels.
Hardwire Low Voltage Switch Wiring:
- Two-wire momentary: Push ON/push OFF alternate action. Recommended for visible lighting control. Cannot be hardwired to multiple inputs; use Group Switch card for multiple relays.
- Two-wire maintained: Standard ON/OFF toggle switch. Avoid use with automatic scheduling; switch must cycle OFF to resynchronize if lighting is turned off automatically.
- Three-wire momentary: Dual momentary action with independent ON/OFF contacts. Uses SPDT momentary toggle switches or Wattstopper low voltage options. Common for direct-wired switch options.
Occupancy Sensor:
LI inputs automatically sense Wattstopper occupancy sensors. Sensor activation configures the input. Relay operation depends on motion detection and scheduled occupancy. During occupied periods, sensors turn lights ON with motion but not OFF. During unoccupied periods, sensors turn lights ON and OFF based on motion.
Manual ON/OFF with Occupancy Sensor:
Allows a two-wire momentary switch to provide manual ON/OFF control alongside occupancy sensor control. The switch overrides sensor or schedule status.
Switches with Pilot Lights:
The "Y" (yellow) terminal on Switch Input Terminal Blocks supplies 24V rectified for pilot lights. A jumper wire from 24VR to Yelcom on a Group Switching (GS) card powers a pilot light. Voltage is present when the associated relay is ON. Contact the factory for other voltage requirements.
F. Optional Group Switching and Smartwire Procedure
A Group Switching card provides eight channels for smartwiring to relays, enabling common control. If the panel includes an automation module, follow its specific instructions. For interface to other systems or manual switches, channels can be used for grouping.
Manual Relay Channel Setup (Figure 9):
- On the Group Switching card, press and hold the Group channel push button.
- Release when the red channel LED and relay LEDs for controlled relays flash.
- On each Relay card, select relays to be controlled (LED flashes if smartwired, off otherwise).
- Press the associated Relay Control Button to add/delete relays to/from the group (LEDs for included relays flash).
- On the Group Switching card, press the Group Channel Push-button again.
- Release when all LEDs stop flashing. The input switch now controls the selected relays.
Group Switching Card Connections and Components (Figure 10):
Details the card's components: Pattern LED, pattern push-button, group channel connectors (8x), group channel LEDs (8x), group channel push-buttons (8x), power connectors (24VR, 24VAC, 24VDC, YELCOM). Explains Group Channel LED states: Green indicates assigned relays are in a mixed state (some ON, some OFF), Red indicates all assigned relays are ON, and Off indicates all assigned relays are OFF.
Test Smartwired Relay Group Channels:
- Press Group channel Push-button ON/OFF/ON to toggle the group. The Group channel LED reflects the last action (Red for all ON).
- Turn off each relay using individual Relay Control Buttons. The Group channel LED turns Green (mixed states) and goes OFF when the last relay is off.
Testing
Basic Power-up Testing: A table outlines tests for observing LED status on various boards (C8/C24, RD, PS) and relay operation, with corresponding responses and recommended next steps (e.g., "Go to next Test", "Reset panel power", "Call Technical Support").
- Blue LEDs on C8/C24: Blinking tempo indicates normal operation. Off or continuous light suggests issues.
- Blue LEDs on RD/GS: Flashing intervals indicate normal operation. Off or continuous light suggests issues.
- Green Status LEDs on C8/C24: All continuously lit indicates normal operation. Any off indicates an issue.
- Green Power LEDs on PS: Both lit indicates normal operation. Either off suggests wiring issues.
- Amber LEDs on RD/GS: No Amber LEDs observed is normal. Lit or blinking Amber LEDs indicate issues.
- Relay Operation: Pressing the control button should light the Red LED and click the relay. Pressing again should turn off the LED and relay. If not, check wiring or call support.
If the panel continues to fail tests, contact Technical Support.
Troubleshooting
A table addresses common problems and provides test steps and solutions:
- LV switch not controlling relay/group: Check wiring, override button function, and group assignments. Verify LV wiring integrity.
- Relay turns off briefly then back on: Check LV wiring for shorts, switch operation, and relay/circuit board status.
- Relay turns on briefly then off: Similar checks as above; potential need to replace relay or circuit board.
- Removing a sensor: If a sensor was connected, the input remains in sensor mode. To restore normal operation, remove sensor wiring, turn the relay/group off using the override button, and momentarily jumper white and red terminals.
If issues persist, contact technical support.
