Preparing Your Radio for Initial Use

Setting Up Your Charger

  1. Plug the adapter's AC connector into the AC outlet socket.
  2. Plug the adapter's DC connector into the DC socket on the back of the charger.
  3. Place the radio with the battery attached, or the battery alone, in the charger.
  4. Make sure the battery contact is touching the charging terminals. The charging process begins when the red LED light illuminates.
  5. The green LED light will illuminate approximately two hours later, indicating the battery is fully charged.

Important Charging Notes:

  • Do not cut off the power supply or remove the battery while charging.
  • Never charge a battery that is wet. Dry it with a soft cloth prior to charging.
  • Battery performance greatly decreases at temperatures below -4°F (-20°C). A spare battery is recommended for extremely cold environments.
  • Dust on the battery contact may cause improper charging. Clean with a dry cloth.
  • Batteries with damaged contacts are dangerous and should be replaced immediately.

Battery Information

Charging the Battery

Your radio uses a Lithium-Ion (Li-Ion) battery. Charge the battery using only an original RCA charger. The charger's red LED indicates charging is in progress, and green indicates the battery is fully charged.

Note: Charge a new battery for 12 to 14 hours before initial use for best performance. Maximum battery capacity is typically achieved after two or three full charge/discharge cycles.

Battery Storage
  1. Fully charge the battery before storing it for an extended period to avoid damage from over-discharge.
  2. Recharge a battery every three months to maintain capacity.
  3. Store batteries in a dry place at room temperature.

Attaching the Battery

  1. Place the battery on the back of the radio.
  2. Press the battery down until it clicks into place. Ensure it is securely locked.

Attaching / Removing the Antenna

  1. With the radio turned off, set the antenna in its receptacle and turn clockwise until screwed down.
  2. To remove the antenna, turn the radio off and turn the antenna counterclockwise.

Note: This procedure is the same for all RDR43x0 Series Radios.

Attaching / Removing the Belt Clip

Using a small screwdriver, align the belt clip's screw holes to the radio's chassis. Attach by turning screws clockwise. Remove by reversing the process.

Connecting Audio Accessories

The accessory connector is located on the side of the radio. Remove the accessory cover by unscrewing it. Connect the audio accessory firmly into the jack and secure the screw clockwise. Loosen the screw before removing the accessory. Using an accessory may affect the radio's waterproof performance.

Turn On/Off the Radio

  1. Rotate the On/Off/Volume Control Knob clockwise until it clicks. The LED blinks green, indicating a successful power-up test. The RDR4350™ / RDR4380™ radio displays "RCA" upon powering on.
  2. To turn off the radio, rotate the knob counterclockwise until it clicks.

Note: If the radio does not power up, check the battery charge and attachment. Contact your RCA Communications Systems dealer if issues persist.

Adjusting the Volume

Turn the On/Off/Volume Control Knob clockwise to increase volume and counterclockwise to decrease it.

Note: This applies to all RDR43x0 Series Radios.
