This guide provides essential information for the initial setup, operation, and maintenance of your Bosch SRS4HMI61E dishwasher.

This quick reference guide covers essential functions.
Overview of Water Hardness Settings
Select the appropriate water hardness setting for your appliance. The table below shows hardness ranges and corresponding setting values.

Setting the Water Softening System
- Press the [settings] button.
- To open basic settings, press and hold the [settings] button for 3 seconds.
- The display will show "Hxx" (current setting).
- Press the [settings] button repeatedly until the correct water hardness setting is displayed.
- To save the settings, press and hold the [settings] button for 3 seconds.
Adding Special Salt
To avoid damage to the appliance, only add special salt to the dispenser just before the programme starts.
- Unscrew the lid of the special salt dispenser and remove it.
- On initial start-up: Fill the dispenser completely with water.
- Add the special salt to the dispenser. The water in the dispenser will be displaced and forced out. Never add detergent here.
- Place the lid back on the dispenser and turn to close.
Adding Rinse Aid
- Press the catch on the lid of the rinse aid dispenser and lift to open.
- Add rinse aid up to the maximum mark.
- Close the lid of the rinse aid dispenser. The lid will click into position. ✅
Adding Detergent
- Add the detergent to the dry detergent dispenser.
- Close the lid of the detergent dispenser. The lid will click into position. ✅
Programmes
Programme data is measured according to European standard EN 60436. Consumption figures depend on the selected programme and additional functions. Runtime may change if the rinse aid system is switched off or rinse aid needs to be added.

The "Favourite" programme is suitable for running at night; it takes longer but is extremely quiet.
How to Use Your Appliance
- Load the tableware. Only use dishwasher-safe tableware. Remove large food remnants. Ensure spray arms can rotate freely.
- Add detergent.
- Switch on the appliance.
- Select the programme.
- Start the programme. ▶️
- Remove the tableware at the end of the programme.
- To cancel the programme, press and hold the [reset] button for approximately 4 seconds. The programme will be cancelled and end after about 1 minute.
Cleaning Filters
Check filters for residue after each wash.
- Turn the coarse filter anticlockwise ⟳ and remove the filter system.
- Pull down the micro filter to remove it.
- Press the locking catches together and lift the coarse filter out.
- Clean the filter elements under running water.
- Re-assemble the filter system.
- Insert the filter system into the appliance and turn the coarse filter clockwise ↻. Ensure the arrow markings align.
Cleaning Spray Arms
- Unscrew the upper spray arms and pull them down to remove.
- Pull up the lower spray arm to remove it.
- Check the outlet nozzles on the spray arms for blockages under running water and remove any foreign bodies.
- Insert the lower spray arm. The spray arm will click into position. ✅
- Insert the upper spray arms and screw them firmly in place.
Clean Wastewater Pump
- Disconnect the appliance from the power supply.
- Remove the filter system.
- Scoop out any remaining water.
- Prise off the pump cover using a spoon and grip it by the crosspiece.
- Lift the pump cover inwards at an angle and remove it.
- Remove any remnants of food and foreign bodies from the impeller area.
- Insert the pump cover and press down until it clicks into position. ✅
- Install the filter system.
Troubleshooting
Fault: E:32-00 or water supply indicator lights up
- Cause: Supply hose is kinked. Solution: Install the supply hose without kinks.
- Cause: Water tap is turned off. Solution: Turn on the water tap.
- Cause: Water tap is jammed or furred up. Solution: Turn on the water tap. (Flow rate must be at least 10 l/min).
- Cause: Filters in the water connection of the supply or AquaStop hose are blocked. Solution: Switch off appliance, unplug, turn off water tap, unscrew water connection, remove and clean filter from supply hose, re-insert filter, screw connection back on, check for leaks, restore power, switch on appliance.
Fault: E:92-40 or E:61-02
- Cause: Filters are soiled or blocked. Solution: Clean the filters.
- Cause: Wastewater pump is blocked. Solution: Clean the wastewater pump.
- Cause: Cover of the wastewater pump is loose. Solution: Secure the cover so it clicks into position. ✅
Fault: Remnants of food on tableware
- Cause: Tableware is placed too close together or basket is overfilled. Solution: Arrange tableware with sufficient space; ensure spray jets reach surfaces. Avoid points of contact.
- Cause: Spray arm rotation is blocked. Solution: Arrange tableware so it does not obstruct spray arm rotation.
- Cause: Spray arm nozzles are blocked. Solution: Clean the spray arms.
- Cause: Filters are soiled. Solution: Clean the filters.
- Cause: Filters are inserted incorrectly and/or not engaged. Solution: Insert filters properly and engage them.
- Cause: Washing programme selected is too weak. Solution: Select a more intensive washing programme.
Fault: Removable streaks on glasses, glassware with metallic appearance, and cutlery
- Cause: Amount of rinse aid dispensed is set too high. Solution: Set the rinse aid system to a lower setting.
- Cause: No rinse aid has been added. Solution: Add rinse aid.
Fault: Rust spots on cutlery
- Cause: Cutlery is not sufficiently rust-resistant (e.g., knife blades). Solution: Use rust-resistant tableware.
- Cause: Cutlery may rust if washed with rusting items. Solution: Do not wash rusting items together.
Fault: Detergent residue in dispenser or tablet tray
- Cause: Spray arms were blocked by tableware, preventing detergent rinse-out. Solution: Check that spray arms are not blocked and can rotate freely.
Fault: All LEDs light up or flash, or rinse programme does not continue running
- This typically indicates a fault. Refer to the full instruction manual or contact customer service.
