Bradford White Brute FT® Residential Wall Mounted Boiler
Specifications
The Bradford White Brute FT® series offers residential wall-mounted modulating, condensing boilers designed for efficient heating. Models include BMFTHW 100, 140, and 199.
These boilers are designed and constructed in accordance with the ASME Boiler & Pressure Vessel Code, Section IV requirements for 30 psi (207 kPa) maximum working pressure, and bear the ASME "H" Stamp. They are listed by the National Board.
Models 140 and 199 modulate from 10-100% of full fire for a 10:1 turndown ratio. Model 100 modulates from 20-100% of full fire for a 5:1 turndown ratio.
The boilers are listed with the U.S. Department of Energy as an Energy Star appliance and AHRI certified, with a minimum AFUE of 95%. They comply with ASHRAE Standard 90.1 and meet stringent NOx emissions requirements.
Heat Exchanger and Combustion
The fire tube heat exchanger features a stainless steel construction with an aluminum core. It is designed for low head loss, accessibility for inspection and cleaning, and is fully condensing with a built-in condensate drain and trap. A limited 10-year warranty is provided for the heat exchanger.
The boiler utilizes sealed combustion with a premix ceramic fiber burner and a zero governor gas valve for clean burning. It operates on natural gas pressure between 3.5-10.5" w.c. (or 8-13" w.c. for propane with conversion). A sight glass is included for viewing the flame. The boiler jacket is a unitized shell finished with acrylic thermoset paint.
Venting and Air Intake
The boiler is designed and certified for vertical or horizontal Category IV venting. Approved vent materials include PVC, CPVC, Polypropylene, or stainless steel. Vent pipe length can be up to 50 equivalent feet of 2" diameter pipe, or up to 100 equivalent feet of 3" diameter pipe.
Air can be taken from the room or ducted directly to the boiler. Air pipe materials may include ABS, PVC, CPVC, Polypropylene, or galvanized. Air pipe length limits are similar to vent pipe limits: up to 50 equivalent feet of 2" diameter pipe, or up to 100 equivalent feet of 3" diameter pipe.
Electrical and Control System
The unit operates on 120VAC, single phase, drawing less than 4 Amps (including the mounted pump) and connects to a 15A breaker. Maximum power consumption is 160W. The control circuit operates at 24VAC. A three-foot, 14 AWG plug-in line cord is included.
Field connections for main power, external circulator, call for heat (thermostat or endswitch), low water cutoff, and outdoor sensor are accessible via line voltage and low voltage terminal strips. The control accepts a 0-10VDC input for external control or building automation system integration for remote temperature setpoint control.
The control system is an integrated electronic PID temperature and ignition control with an LCD, push buttons, and dial. It manages boiler operation and firing rate. The waterproof display is visible without removing jacket panels and shows numeric temperature values along with icons indicating operational status (e.g., call for space heating, anti-freeze mode, warm weather shutdown, outside temperature mode, 0-10V setpoint mode, controller lock, status/installer mode, flame signal, pump operation).
The control features built-in outdoor reset with warm weather shutdown and customizable reset curves based on outdoor temperature and desired system water temperature. The outdoor reset sensor is included as standard equipment.
Users can force the boiler to minimum or maximum firing rate for setup and diagnostics. The control monitors flue gas temperature and will stop firing if it becomes excessive. Built-in gas leakage detection will lock out the boiler for safety if gas is detected for more than 5 seconds or three times within 10 minutes.
Menu structures are available for user and installer modes, allowing adjustments for boiler temperature setpoint, display units (°F or °C), outdoor reset selection, low/high outdoor temperature setpoints for reset operation.
Control Diagnostics
The control can display parameters such as outdoor temperature, return boiler water temperature, blower RPM, exhaust temperature, pump output condition, three-way valve output condition, burner operation times, and ignition cycles.
Control diagnostics include, but are not limited to:
- Ignition failure
- Grounded flame rod
- Boiler high limit exceeded
- Sensor errors (open or shorted)
- Fan speed proving rate failure
