Diagrams and Component Identification
The document includes detailed diagrams illustrating the assembly of the M18 FUEL Brushless Hammer-Drill. Key components are labeled with part numbers and figures for easy identification.
Figure 1 shows the main assembly with various screws, chucks, levers, and housing parts. Notable parts include the Keyless Chuck (2), Forward/Reverse Shuttle (16), Speed Change Lever (17), and the Left and Right Housing Halves (19, 36).
Figure 2 (referenced on page 2) details the internal electrical and mechanical components, including the electronics assembly, gear case assembly, and wiring. It emphasizes careful placement of components and wires to avoid interference.
Instructions for Component Removal and Installation
Removing the Chuck Screw
- Set the Speed Selector Slide (34) to the #1 setting.
- Apply heat into the chuck opening using a small pencil tip torch or an air reduction nozzle on a heat gun, directly to the head of the reversing screw.
- Insert a T40 1/4" torx bit into the head of the reversing screw.
- Place a 1/4" boxed end wrench over the hex on the T40 bit. Use a 12"-18" metal tube or pipe as leverage over the boxed wrench.
- In a clockwise direction, apply slow, steady force to break the screw loose.
Removing the Keyless Chuck
- Tighten a 3/8" or 10mm Allen Key into the jaws of the chuck.
- Place the tool into a vise with soft jaws (ensure the belt clip is removed).
- Use a 12"-18" metal tube or pipe as leverage over the Allen key.
- In a counter-clockwise direction, apply slow, steady force to break the chuck loose.
Installing New Chuck and Screw
- Torque Chuck to 1095 kg/cm (950.418 in/lbs or 28.93 ft/lbs).
- Torque Screw to 461 kg/cm (400.130 in/lbs or 33.34 ft/lbs).
