Getting Started

1. Unboxing

Open the box and check you have the following items:

  • Polaroid NOW+ camera
  • USB-C Charging Cable
  • Quick Start Guide
  • Lens filter kit (5 filters + 1 lens cover)
  • Wrist strap
  • Safety & Compliance booklet

2. Charging the Camera

For safe transportation, the Polaroid NOW+ is not fully charged upon receipt. To charge, plug one side of the USB-C cable into the camera and the other into a charging adapter (5V/1A). Charging via a laptop is not recommended. The battery level indicator LED blinks while charging and turns off when fully charged. A full charge via a wall socket takes approximately 2 hours. A fully charged camera can shoot up to 15 packs of film. Turn off the camera when not in use to conserve battery life.

3. Attaching the Wrist Strap

Attach the included wrist strap to the designated loop on the camera for secure handling.

4. Purchasing Instant Film

This camera uses Polaroid i-Type and 600 instant film. Film can be purchased online.

How to Take Your First Photo

1. Turn on the Camera

Press the ON | OFF button until the film counter display lights up. It should show '0' as there is no film loaded.

2. Insert the Film Pack

Press the film door button and open the door. Hold the film pack with the darkslide facing up. Insert the thin end of the cassette first, with the tab facing towards you. Push the cassette fully into the camera until it clicks. Leave the pull tab attached for later removal of the empty pack. Close the film door until it clicks. The darkslide, covered by a film shield, will eject. Do not pull the film shield. Remove the darkslide and allow the film shield to retract. This shield protects photos from light during development. If the darkslide does not eject, remove and reinsert the film pack. For accurate photo counts, always finish a film pack before inserting a new one. Switching film packs mid-use will expose remaining photos to light, rendering them unusable.

3. Aim the Camera

Ensure you are at least 45cm (1.47ft) from your subject. Use the viewfinder on the left side of the lens barrel to compose your shot. Note that the viewfinder image may not perfectly match the final photo. For subjects closer than 1.2m (5.24ft), adjust your aim slightly up and to the left. You can lock focus and exposure by half-pressing the shutter button, then recompose your shot before fully pressing the button. Avoid covering the flash or photo eject slot with your fingers.

4. Press the Shutter Button

The photo will eject from the front slot, covered by a protective film shield. Do not pull the film shield.

5. Remove the Photo

Leave the photo under the film shield for about 5 seconds. Gently lift the film shield to retract it into the camera. Remove the photo and place it face down to protect it from light as it develops. Do not shake the photo. Refer to the film packaging for correct developing times.

6. Turn off the Camera

Press the ON | OFF button to power down the Polaroid NOW+.

Connecting to the App

Unlock extra creative tools by connecting the Polaroid NOW+ to the Polaroid app via Bluetooth®. Download the app from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store. Enable Bluetooth® on your phone. Open the app, tap 'NOW+' from the menu, and confirm the permission message. The + Button on the camera will turn blue when connected. The connection is made directly through the app; the camera will not appear in your phone's Bluetooth® device list. The + Button indicator shows connection status:

  • Blue indicator: Camera is connected to the mobile app.
  • Pulsing blue indicator: Camera is searching for the mobile app.
  • No indicator (or other color): Camera is not connected to the mobile app but may be searching.

Adding a Lens Filter

Enhance your photography with colored filters or creative effects. To attach a colored filter, press it over the lens. For the starburst and red vignette filters, align the small notch on the filter with the light meter at the bottom of the lens and turn until it clicks into place.

Special Features

The Polaroid NOW+ offers creative tools accessible directly on the camera:

Self-timer

Press the ➕ Button; the + Button mode indicator turns orange. Frame your shot, then press the shutter button. The orange LED blinks during the 9-second countdown. To cancel, press the shutter button again or turn off the camera.

Double Exposure

Combine two images into one photo. Double-tap the ➕ Button; the indicator turns green, and the film counter blinks '1'. Take the first exposure, then the counter blinks '2' for the second exposure.

Custom Shortcut

Set your favorite app mode as a camera shortcut. In the app, select your preferred mode and press the ➕ Button at the top of the screen. To activate the shortcut on the camera, long-press the ➕ Button; the indicator turns red. Press the ➕ Button again to deactivate.

+Button Mode Indicator

Check the current creative mode via the LED indicator below the viewfinder:

  • Orange indicator: Self-timer activated. Press ➕ once to activate/deactivate.
  • Green indicator: Double exposure mode. Double-press ➕ to activate, press once to deactivate.
  • Red indicator: Custom shortcut active. Long-press ➕ to activate, press once to deactivate.

Using the Flash

The flash is recommended for most situations except bright, direct sunlight. It triggers by default when the camera is on. The flash button (⚡ symbol) is located next to the ON | OFF button.

  • Flash Ready: Unlit - Flash is always on unless disabled.
  • Flash Off: Press the flash button for less than 1 second to deactivate for the next shot. Double-press to deactivate until the camera is turned off.
  • Flash Charging: The flash is charging.

The Polaroid NOW+ flash has a range of 2m (6.56ft). Subjects beyond this range may appear too dark. If shooting outdoors beyond flash range, disable the flash to prevent underexposure. In bright sunlight, position yourself with the sun behind you, turn off the flash, and keep the camera steady.

Setting Exposure Value (EV)

To adjust exposure, hold the flash button down. The film counter display will show EV options. Press the flash button again to cycle through brighter (+1/2 EV), neutral, or darker (-1/2 EV). The selected value will blink after 7 seconds, indicating it's saved.

Tips to Take Great Photos

Lighting: Always use the flash unless in very bright sunlight. The flash range is 2m (6.56ft). If your subject is further, photos may be too dark. For outdoor shots beyond flash range, turn off the flash to avoid underexposure. In bright sun, position yourself with the sun behind you, turn off the flash, and keep the camera steady.

  • Distance: Ensure you are at least 45cm (1.47ft) from your subject.
  • Stability: Hold the camera steady, especially in low light.
  • Subject Illumination: Use a strong light source.
  • Sensors: Keep fingers away from camera sensors located under the flash.

Charging

The battery level indicator LED, located above the USB-C slot, shows charging status:

Battery Level Indicator LED

  • Camera is off: Unlit.
  • Battery full: Unlit (when not charging).
  • Battery half full: Unlit (when not charging).
  • Battery empty: Unlit (when not charging).
  • Charging, battery almost full: Blinking orange.
  • Charging, battery is half full: Blinking orange.
  • Charging, battery is low: Blinking orange.

To get a detailed battery reading, hold down the ➕ Button while turning on the camera. The film counter display will show the battery level as a number (%). Release the ➕ Button to return to the film count display.

A full charge takes about 1-2 hours via the USB-C cable and a 5V/1A adapter. A fully charged battery powers up to 15 film packs.

Cleaning

The camera has two metal rollers that spread developer paste. Dirty rollers can cause marks on photos. Turn off the camera, open the film door, and locate the rollers near the eject slot. Position a soft, damp cloth over the rollers and rotate them by turning the black plastic gear. Wipe the rollers with the cloth. Ensure the rollers are dry before use. Clean rollers between film packs and every 2-3 packs for best results. Clean the lens with a microfiber cloth to prevent scratches.

Troubleshooting

  1. Photo/Darkslide Not Ejecting: Ensure the camera is charged (LED blinks red if low). Check if the film counter shows '0', indicating no film is left.
  2. Flash Not Firing: The flash is on by default. If not firing, press the flash button for <1 second until the light turns on.
  3. Photos Too Dark: Check that your fingers are not covering the flash. Avoid pointing the camera directly at the sun outdoors. The flash range is 2m (6.56ft); subjects further away may be too dark. If not using the flash, find an alternative light source. Half-pressing the shutter locks exposure; ensure adequate light reading.
  4. Blurry or Fuzzy Photos: Maintain a distance of at least 45cm (1.47ft). Hold the camera steady, use good lighting, and keep fingers away from camera sensors.
  5. Incorrect Film Counter Display: The display resets to '8' with a new pack. If a partial pack is inserted, it counts down from '8'. A new full pack will correct the count.
  6. Changed Mind After First Double Exposure Shot: Turn off the camera, press and hold the shutter button, then switch the camera on. The display will show '-'. Continue holding the shutter for over 10 seconds to eject the film.
  7. Film Door Opened Accidentally: Polaroid cameras are designed to prevent light leaks. If film was exposed to bright light, photos may be damaged. Take a photo to eject it, then take another to check film condition. If damaged, insert a new film pack.
  8. Camera Behaving Strangely: Reset the camera by opening the film door and holding the ON/OFF button for over 8 seconds.

The device uses a non-removable, custom lithium-ion battery. Battery replacement must be done by authorized service centers. Power consumption varies with usage and environment. A full charge powers up to 15 film packs. The device will stop processing film when the battery level is too low, indicated by a blinking LED, to prevent photos from getting stuck. The battery is not fully charged at purchase; use the provided USB charging cable for a full charge (1-2 hours). The cable is tested with Apple iPhone power adapters; compatibility with other USB ports is not guaranteed. Recycle the device properly when no longer in use.

Usage Environment

To protect the device's technology, avoid extended periods in high temperatures (+42°C/108°F), high humidity, extreme temperature changes, direct sunlight, sandy or dusty environments, damp places, or areas with strong vibrations. Do not drop the device or subject it to severe shocks. Do not push, pull, or press on the lens surface.
