Getting Started

  1. Open the Polaroid Now box

Check that you have everything you need:

    • Polaroid Now Camera
    • Quick Start Guide
    • Camera Wrist Strap
    • Safety & Compliance booklet
  2. Charge your camera

For safe transportation, the Polaroid NOW+ is not fully charged upon receipt. Use any standard USB-C charger (5V/1A). Charging via a laptop is not recommended. The battery level indicator LED blinks while charging and turns off when fully charged. A full charge via a wall socket takes about 2 hours. A fully charged camera can shoot approximately 15 packs of film, depending on usage. Turn off the camera when not in use to conserve battery life.

  3. Attach your wrist strap

A diagram shows how to attach the wrist strap to the camera.

  4. Find your instant film

This camera uses Polaroid i-Type and 600 instant film. Film can be purchased from the Polaroid website.

How To Take Your First Photo

  1. Turn on the Polaroid NOW+ camera

Press the ON | OFF button until the film counter display lights up. It should show '0' as there is no film.

  2. Insert the film pack

Press the film door button and open the door. Hold the film with the darkslide facing up. Slide the thin end of the cassette in first, with the tab facing towards you. Push until it clicks. Leave the pull tab on for later removal of the empty pack. Close the film door until it clicks. The darkslide covered by the film shield will eject. Do not pull the film shield. Remove the darkslide and allow the film shield to roll back. This shield protects photos from light during development. If the darkslide doesn't eject, remove and reinsert the film pack. Always finish a film pack before inserting a new one to ensure correct photo count. Switching film packs mid-use will expose all photos to light, rendering them unusable.

  3. Aim the camera at your subject

Ensure you are at least 45cm (1.47ft) away. Use the viewfinder on the left side of the lens barrel to compose your shot. Note that the viewfinder image may not perfectly match the final photo. For subjects closer than 1.2m (5.24ft), aim slightly up and to the left. You can half-press the shutter button to lock focus and exposure, then recompose your shot. Avoid covering the flash or photo eject slot with your fingers.

  4. Press the shutter button

The photo will eject from the front slot, covered by a film shield for light protection. Do not pull the film shield.

  5. Remove the photo

Leave the photo under the film shield for about 5 seconds. Gently lift the film shield so it rolls back into the camera. Remove the photo and place it face down to continue shielding it from light as it develops. Do not shake the photo.

  6. Turn the camera off

Press the ON | OFF button.

Connecting to the App

Unlock extra creative tools by downloading the Polaroid app to your mobile phone from the Apple App Store or Google Play store. Enable Bluetooth® wireless technology. Open the app, tap 'NOW+' from the menu, and confirm the permission message. The + Button on the camera will turn blue, indicating connection to your phone via the app. No phone pairing is required, and the camera won't appear in your phone's Bluetooth® device list. Check connection status with the + Button:

Special Features

Self-timer

Press the + Button once to activate the self-timer. The + Button mode indicator (LED below the viewfinder) will turn orange. After framing, press the shutter button. The orange LED blinks for a 9-second countdown. Cancel by pressing the shutter button again or turning off the camera.

Double Exposure

Combine two exposures: Double tap the + Button. The + Button mode indicator turns green, and the film counter blinks '1'. Take the first exposure. It will then blink '2' for the second exposure.

Custom Shortcut

Create a custom shortcut by selecting a favorite mode in the app and sending it to your camera. To set, go to the desired mode in the app and press the + Button at the top. To activate on the camera, long press the + Button. The + Button mode indicator turns red. Press the + Button again to deactivate.

+Button Mode Indicator

Check the creative mode by looking at the +Button mode indicator below the viewfinder.

Exposure Value (EV) Settings

Use the flash button to adjust EV. Hold the flash button to enter EV mode on the film counter display. Press again to cycle through brighter (+1/2 EV), neutral, or darker (-1/2 EV). The selected value blinks for 7 seconds to confirm.

Tips to take great photos

Use the flash for best results, especially in low light. The Polaroid NOW+ flash range is 2m (6.56ft). For subjects beyond this range, or in bright sunlight, turn the flash off to prevent underexposure. If shooting outdoors on a sunny day, position yourself with the sun behind you, face your subject side-on to avoid shadows, turn off the flash, and keep the camera steady.

Charging

The battery level indicator LED is located above the USB-C slot.

Cleaning

The photo is pushed through two metal rollers that spread the developer paste. Dirty rollers can cause marks on photos. With the camera off and no film, open the film door. Locate the two metal rollers near the film eject slot. Place a soft, damp cloth over the rollers and rotate the black plastic gear to turn the rollers. Wipe the rollers with the cloth. Ensure the rollers are dry before use. Check rollers between film packs and clean every 2-3 packs. Clean the lens with a microfiber cloth to avoid scratches.

Troubleshooting

  1. Camera won't eject photo or darkslide

Ensure the camera is charged (red LED blinks if low). If the film counter shows '0', there is no film left.

  2. Flash doesn't fire

The flash is on by default. Press the flash button for less than 1 second until the light turns on.

  3. Photo turned out too dark

Check that your fingers aren't covering the flash. Avoid shooting directly into the sun outdoors, as it can cause overcompensation. Indoors, the flash limit is 2m (6.56ft); subjects beyond this may be too dark. Find another light source if not using the flash. Half-pressing the shutter button locks exposure, so ensure the initial reading is correct.

  4. Photo turned out blurry or fuzzy

Ensure you are at least 45cm (1.47ft) from the subject. Hold the camera steady, use good lighting, and keep fingers away from camera sensors under the flash.

  5. Film counter display shows the wrong number

The display resets to '8' with a new film pack. If a partially used pack is inserted, it shows '8' and counts down. A full new pack will correctly show '8' remaining.

  6. Changed mind after first shot of double exposure

Turn off the camera, press and hold the shutter button, then turn the camera on again. The film count will display '-'. Continue holding the shutter button for over 10 seconds until the film is ejected.

  7. Opened the film door by accident

Polaroid cameras and film packs are designed to prevent light leaks. If film was exposed to direct light, photos may be damaged. Take a photo to remove it, then another to check the rest. If damaged, insert a new film pack.

  8. Camera behaving strangely

Try resetting the camera: open the film door, then hold the ON|OFF button for over 8 seconds.
