Warranty Registration

Congratulations on purchasing your new Guardian SN90 Dehumidifier. It comes with an extensive warranty plan. To register, please fill in and return the warranty card provided in your dehumidifier box. Ensure you note your dehumidifier's serial number for registration.

Safety Notes

  • The Guardian Series Dehumidifier must always be connected using a grounded electrical connection, as required for all electrical appliances. If non-grounded wiring is used, all liability reverts to the owner, and the warranty is voided.
  • Guardian Dehumidifiers should only be maintained and repaired by a qualified technician.
  • Guardian Dehumidifiers are intended for operation only when the unit is sitting on its feet and level. Operating the unit in any other orientation could affect electrical components.
  • Always unplug the dehumidifier before moving it.
  • If the dehumidifier has been flooded with water, it should be opened and allowed to dry thoroughly before reconnecting to electrical power and restarting.
  • To ensure proper operation, neither the air inlet nor the discharge should be positioned against a wall. The inlet requires a minimum of 6' clearance, and the discharge requires a minimum of 6' clearance.
  • For better use, both the air inlet and air outlet should face the open area of the space.
  • Do not insert fingers or any objects into the inlet or discharge.
  • All work on the dehumidifier should be done with the unit "off" and unplugged.
  • Do not use water to clean the exterior. To clean the unit, unplug from power, then use a damp cloth to wipe the exterior.
  • Do not stand on the machine or use it as a device to hang clothes.

Electrical Supply

Power Supply: 115 V, 60 Hz AC, Single Phase

Outlet Requirement: 3-Prong, GFCI

Circuit Protector: 15 Amp

WARNING: 240 Volts AC may cause serious injury from electric shock.

To reduce risk of injury:

  1. Disconnect electrical power before servicing.
  2. Only plug the unit into a grounded electrical circuit.
  3. Do not use an extension cord.
  4. Do not use a plug adapter.

Principle of Operation

The Guardian Series Dehumidifiers utilize an integral humidistat to monitor the conditioned space. When the relative humidity exceeds the selected set point, the dehumidifier energizes. Air is drawn across an evaporator coil, which is cooler than the dew point of the air, causing moisture to condense. The air is then reheated through the condenser coil and distributed back into the room.

Installation

The area to be controlled should be sealed with a vapor barrier. If the unit is installed in a crawlspace, all vents should be sealed.

WARNING: Do not install your dehumidifier in a corrosive environment. Some liquid vapor barriers dry via "solvent evaporation." Always ensure the barrier is completely dry and the area is thoroughly ventilated before installing the dehumidifier.

Step #1: Place Dehumidifier on a Level Surface

If the unit was handled in a manner that the compressor did not remain upright, place it on a level surface and wait a minimum of 2 hours before turning the unit "on."

NOTE: Do not place directly on a vapor barrier. Elevation is required to allow condensate water to drain via gravity.

Step #2: Set Up Drain Line

The drain line should be routed to a suitable drain on the outside and must flow downwards without any loops, dips, or valleys.

Recommended Drain Option: Transition to PVC Pipe

  1. Cut a piece of 3/4" OD PVC approximately 6" long.
  2. Insert PVC into a 3/4" elbow, then attach to a 3/4" OD length of PVC to the drain. Keep the length of the PVC drain pipe to a minimum.
  3. Insert the open end of the tubing into the 3/4" pipe so that it does not extend into the elbow fitting. For proper flow, a minimum downward slope of 1" per 10' run is required. (Note: If a proper downward angle is not possible, it is recommended to use a Guardian SN90 which includes an integrated condensate pump).
  4. Support the PVC tubing to maintain a smooth downward flow to the drain.
  5. Always test the drain before leaving the installation area.

Diagram Description: A diagram shows a drain tube labeled "Drain Tube - 12 inches Long. 12 mm OD." connected to a PVC pipe setup, illustrating the recommended drain line configuration.

Step #3: Plug Unit into 15 Amp Grounded Circuit

Key Functions

The dehumidifier features several key functions controlled via its panel:

  1. Power Key [Power Button]: Use this button to turn the dehumidifier on and off. A single press turns the machine on, indicated by one beep and a green "Power" light. Pressing it again turns the machine off, with another beep and a one-minute fan delay on shutdown.
  2. Arrow Buttons [Up Arrow] / [Down Arrow]: Use these buttons to set the desired humidity setpoint on the display screen (between 36-90%). When the indoor humidity is lower than the set point, the machine stops automatically. Conversely, when the indoor humidity is higher than the set level, the unit operates. NOTE: The humidity levels displayed are approximate only (+/-5%).
  3. Continuous Mode [Continuous Mode Button]: To switch into continuous mode, set the humidity below 36%. The "Cont." light will illuminate green, and the display screen will show "Co". In this mode, the dehumidifier runs constantly, regardless of the humidity level. To stop continuous mode, turn the unit off or switch back to normal humidistat operation by moving the setpoint above 36%.
  4. Central Control: This mode is not applicable on the Guardian SN90. The "Central Control" light should be off at all times when not connected to the AC.

Indicator Lights

  1. Humidity Display Screen [Display Screen]: Shows the current humidity of the space when the unit is powered on. While setting the desired humidity level, it shows the set humidity before reverting to the current humidity level after a brief delay.
  2. Power Indicator Light [Power Indicator Light]: Indicates the unit is properly powered on and ready to operate. Ensure the unit is "off" before performing any service. When the power light is blinking, it means the unit has reached the humidity setpoint.
  3. Continuous Mode/AutoDefrost Light [Mode Indicator Light]: When this light illuminates green, it indicates the dehumidifier is set to continuous operation mode. When the light glows red, the unit is in auto defrost mode, clearing the evaporator coil of ice buildup.
  4. Compressor Light [Compressor Indicator Light]: When the compressor light glows red, the compressor has been initiated but is currently warming up. Once the compressor light switches to green, the compressor is in working status.

Remote Control Instructions

Guardian Dehumidifiers can be controlled using an optional remote accessory connected via a 25' CAT 5 cable. The remote control has an integrated sensor, offering multiple options for remote control and monitoring of the dehumidifier's conditions.

Remote Control Applications:

  • Install the dehumidifier in one room and duct the conditioned air into a second room where the remote is located.
  • Use the remote in areas difficult to access regularly, such as a crawl space, with the remote mounted in a more accessible living space or garage.

NOTE: Symbols indicated on the remote control panel will only appear when the dehumidifier is powered on.

Remote Control Panel Functions:

  1. On/Off (Power) Button [On/Off Button]: Press to start the machine (indicated by two beeps). Press again to turn the machine off.
  2. Up Button [Up Arrow Button] / Down Button [Down Arrow Button]: Use to adjust the humidity level.
  3. Mode [Mode Button]: Use to switch between dehumidification and a ducted application. A symbol on the display board indicates whether the sensor on the remote control or the dehumidifier is being utilized.
  4. Temperature [Temperature Button]: Press to display the current temperature on the screen. Press again to turn off the display.
  5. Continuous [Continuous Button]: Press to switch the unit into continuous mode. "Cont." will appear on the display.
  6. Drain Pump [Drain Pump Button]: Pressing this button removes water from the pump reservoir, allowing the unit to be safely moved or stored. NOTE: This function is only available on the Guardian SN90 model.

Operating Instructions

  1. Start the Machine: Press the power key to turn the machine on.
  2. Adjust Settings: Use the up and down arrow keys to adjust your desired setpoint (typically 50-55%).
  3. Stop the Machine: Press the power key again to stop the machine. The fan will continue to operate for 1 minute after the unit has turned off. Always use the power button; do not disconnect the power cord to force the machine to stop.
  4. Water Drainage: During normal operation, the Guardian SN90 automatically drains by gravity. If you need to move or store the machine, wait at least 10 minutes to allow the machine to completely defrost, then lean it gently towards the drain to ensure it is completely drained.
