Automotive Diagnostic Smoke Leak Detector

User Manual

Thanks for purchasing this product. This user manual should be carefully read before first-time use. Always keep this manual handy as it contains important information about using the product.

Warning

  • Operator shall have basic knowledge about the structure of vehicles and engines. A vehicle service book is required. [mechanical knowledge icon]
  • To ensure better test results, it's required that there is no wind in the operating area. [no wind icon]
  • Do NOT use the product on smoke-sensitive components. For example, smoke residual might reduce the sharpness of headlights if applied to the headlight housing. [smoke sensitive component icon]
  • ONLY low-density mineral oil-based fluid is allowed to be used as smoke oil. Johnson & Johnson's baby oil (pink label) is compatible. Use the funnel to avoid spreading oil to other parts of the unit. Check the oil level before use; if the oil level is lower than the middle of the gauge, the unit will need a refill, but do not overfill the unit beyond the gauge. [oil level gauge icon]
  • The product is only allowed to be used while the ignition is off. [ignition off icon]
  • Be sure to use a 12V vehicle battery, and the battery shall be fully charged and have a voltage not lower than 12V. [12V battery icon]
  • Use a bright light torch or halogen light to help find the leaks. [bright light icon]
  • Wear goggles if available. [goggles icon]

Scope of Use

The smoke leak detector, with its WYSIWYG efficiency, is widely applicable to leak testing of various pipeline systems and quick pinpoint leak positioning. This product can effectively find the leakage position by simulating the most suitable operating pressure condition of the vehicle pipeline and introducing smoke into the vehicle pipeline system through appropriate adapters. It can be used to test air intake systems, exhaust systems, inter-cooling systems, oil circuits, water lines, and other pipeline systems that users can imagine.

Upgrade

In case the S200 was purchased and needs to be upgraded to S300, the operator shall mount the flow meter while the upgrade package is in hand. The steps are:

  1. Cut off the hose at the middle of the rack.
  2. Take off the screws.
  3. Mount the flow meter.
  4. Connect hoses.

Leak Status

The leak status is indicated by the pressure gauge:

  • NO Leak: Indicates no significant pressure drop, suggesting no leaks.
  • Minor Leak: Indicates a moderate pressure drop, suggesting a minor leak.
  • Massive Leak: Indicates a significant pressure drop, suggesting a major leak.

The gauges display pressure in psi and kg/cm², with a "LEAK SIZE" indicator showing the severity.
