Key Updates
This document details modifications made to the AR8200 Series II, differentiating it from the original AR8200 model. These changes address customer feedback and product enhancements.
Keypad Rearrangement
The front 'ten-key' keypad has been updated based on customer requests, with the '0' key now positioned below the '8' key, aligning with standard telephone layouts. Refer to the operating manual for updated graphics.
TCXO Integration
The AR8200 Series II now includes a built-in Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator (TCXO), replacing the previous reference crystal. This upgrade ensures superior frequency stability and minimizes spurious emissions.
Aerial and Performance Enhancements
A telescopic whip aerial on a swivel base replaces the former rubber-covered whip aerial. This design optimizes performance, particularly on VHF bands, and allows for length adjustment to achieve peak signal strength. An optional smaller, flexible aerial (DA900) is available for situations prioritizing durability and compactness. Consult the operating manual for specific details on the aerial replacement.
Squelch Level Revisions
The relationship between squelch levels and the signal meter has been revised. This affects settings for VFO SEARCH LEVEL SQUELCH, SCAN LEVEL SQUELCH, and PROGRAM SEARCH LEVEL SQUELCH. The manual provides updated tables detailing these revised relationships.
Battery Charging Information
For high-capacity NiCads supplied with the AR8200, the full charge time is now recommended as 14 hours to ensure a complete charge, an update from the previously stated 12 hours.
Design and Color Changes
Revisions have been made to the battery compartment and its cover to facilitate easier battery replacement. Additionally, the cabinet color of the AR8200 has been changed from green to black.
