Requirements

ICEZONE requires a 12VDC, 2.1A power supply. Installation uses a wall adapter to convert 115VAC to 12VDC. All tubing, fittings, screws, rivets, brackets, clips, and clamps must be NSF-grade materials and installed per NSF and UL specifications.

Selecting the Installation Area

The device cannot be installed in the ice production area or ice bin, as these are classified as food zones by the FDA. The ICEZONE may be mounted outside the ice machine and attached to the machine or an adjacent wall. The installation area must provide adequate space, access to a suitable power source, a secure mounting location, and easy access for bulb replacement.

Safety Instructions

WARNING: Procedures should only be performed by a qualified electrician according to national and local electrical codes. Ensure mains power is turned off during installation or when replacing components. Never perform maintenance or cleaning while the equipment is energized.

Inspect the device for damage that may have occurred during transportation. If damaged, do not connect to power or use. Contact BSG at info@bsg-uv.com.

Installation must not damage electronic components, ice maker components, or wiring. Do not modify or re-position ice maker components. Disconnect the ice maker from the power supply before installation or maintenance.

UV WARNING: Eye damage may result from directly viewing the light produced by the lamp. Always turn off the lamp before opening the cover.

WARNING: High voltage inside. Open Circuit Voltage and Voltage to Ground: 600V.

Dispose of this device or any related parts in accordance with all international, federal, state, and local regulations.

Hazardous Waste Disposal: UV lamps contain small traces of mercury. Dispose of old, defective, or broken lamps in accordance with laws related to hazardous waste disposal.

Installation Instructions

For Follett Bins:

  1. Before installation, clear the top surface of the bin to access required fittings. Empty the ice bin or cover ice to prevent contamination from installation debris.
  2. Locate the position on the bin top for ICEZONE attachment. A template is available for drilling locations. Some bin tops may have factory-provided holes; remove cap plugs if present.
  3. After confirming fitting locations, drill a 1/4" pilot hole for alignment. Use a 1-3/4" hole saw to drill through the bin cover and inner liner. De-burr holes to prevent material from falling into the ice bin.
  4. Insert the bulkhead fitting with rubber gasket from the inside of the bin into the drilled holes.
  5. Assemble the 90-degree elbow with hose barb, bulkhead nipple, nut, and washer. Insert the fitting and tubing.
  6. Mount the ICEZONE to the wall using the provided screws and wall anchors. Remove covers from the ICEZONE housing to access mounting bosses.
  7. Install the 14mm (5/8") tubing and fittings on the ICEZONE supply port. Ensure horizontal tubes slope down towards the bin.
  8. Apply 1/2" wall Armacell® or equivalent closed-cell pipe insulation to the return tube and large bulkhead fitting. Secure with foam insulation tape (1/4" thick x 2" width).

Installers Tip: Warming the plastic hose in water prior to installation can make it easier to slide over fittings.

Maintenance Instructions

If the device is in a dusty or smoke-filled area, clean the bulb and air filter every three months to extend unit life. At a minimum, the bulb must be changed every twelve months for maximum functionality and efficiency.

Bulb Replacement Instructions

  1. Disconnect power supply to the ice machine and ICEZONE.
  2. Access the device by removing necessary covers and panels on the ice machine as per its owner's manual.
  3. Remove the ICEZONE Service Cover to access the lamp connector and lamp.
  4. Disconnect the lampholder from the bulb by gripping the plastic body and pulling away. Do not grip by the wires (high voltage hazard).
  5. Pull the lamp from the "pin-end".
  6. Ensure the bulb has cooled down. Avoid touching the glass element with bare fingers to prevent oil and residue transfer, which can affect performance.
  7. Cleaning the bulb: Clean with a soft cloth and appropriate cleansing solvent compatible with quartz glass (e.g., rubbing alcohol). Cleansing wipes may also be used. Reinsert the bulb.
  8. Changing the bulb: Insert a new bulb (refer to technical specifications for correct type). Use only new BSG bulbs; using other bulbs voids the warranty.
  9. Insert the "flat-end" of the new bulb into the appropriate end cap.
