HOBO® MX801 Logger Housing-2 User Guide

Inside this package:
Logger housing-2 Mounting pin 2x O-rings for logger 2x O-rings for 2sensor adapter End cap

The logger housing provides protection for the HOBO MX801 Wireless Submersible Data Logger when used with the 2-sensor adapter (WADAPT-2). This creates a rugged assembly for mounting on stakes, buoy lines, and cement blocks.

Specifications Materials
Weight Dimensions

PVC Stainless steel Clevis pin with wire retainer Rubber Buna-N Orings

26.2 cm x 7.1 cm (10.3" X 2.8")

Installing the O-rings
1. Connect the sensor guard to the 2-sensor adapter. The sensor guard prevents damage to the sensors while allowing ample water flow.
Note: A W-GUARD-2 anti-biofouling guard can be attached to the sensor guard to reduce biofouling. See the HOBO MX800 Two-Sensor Adapter (W-ADAPT-2) User Guide for more information.
2. Install two O-rings on the 2-sensor adapter by placing the assembly upright on a stable surface with the sensor guard at the bottom. Slide the two O-rings into place using moderate force, ensuring they are properly aligned and evenly seated into their respective grooves (see below).

3. Install two O-rings onto the MX801 logger (see above). The O-rings serve to stabilize and center each part of the assembly.
Installing the Logger Housing
1. Before installing the MX801, ensure it is either configured, including the start mode, or awake for HOBOconnect® configuration. Slide the protective logger housing over the logger then align the holes on the logger housing with the locking-screw holes on the sensor guard.
2. Slide the end cap onto the logger housing (optional), ensuring the end cap's holes align with the mounting loop's opening inside the housing. If they are not aligned, rotate the end cap 90° counterclockwise. The end cap provides additional protection and helps reduce fouling buildup on the logger.

3. Insert the mounting pin through the aligned holes and the logger's mounting loop then snap the wire loop over the protruding end. Ensure it snaps securely into place to hold the assembly together. Turn the sensor guard clockwise until the mounting loop is firmly seated against the mounting pin.

Removing the Sensor Guard for Sensor Servicing
1. Remove the locking screws (if present). If installed, the locking screws are visible through the holes in the logger housing.
2. Remove the sensor guard by rotating the sensor guard counterclockwise then pulling it straight out. 3. Reverse steps 1-2 to reinstall.
Note: When reinstalling the sensor guard, turn it clockwise until it locks into place. Note: Instead of the locking screws, tape can also be applied around the portion of the sensor guard that is positioned underneath the logger housing coupler. This creates a friction fit, reducing the need to remove the locking screws each time the sensor guard is removed.
Removing the Logger from the Logger Housing
1. Remove the mounting pin by unlatching the wire loop and pulling the mounting pin out. 2. Slide the logger housing off the MX801 by pulling it straight out.
Mounting Considerations
· Secure the housing to a post, buoy line or cement block using heavy duty cable ties or hose clamps. · If using a tether line with the logger mounted on a cement block, attach the line directly to the block.
Note: Do not attach a tether line to the wire loop of the mounting pin. This can pull the mounting pin out, causing the logger to come loose from the tether.

· Refer to the HOBO MX800 Series User's Guide for additional deployment information.
