Always follow basic safety precautions to prevent personal injury, equipment damage, and other hazards. These include:
For the Power Unit
- Use only the supplied Yamaha power adapter.
- Do not use in high humidity or wet conditions.
- Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible.
- Disconnect the power cord during thunderstorms or when the instrument is not in use for extended periods.
For the Instrument
- WARNING: To prevent serious injury or death from electric shock or fire, always observe the following:
- Do not expose the instrument to rain or moisture.
- Do not place liquid containers (vases, cups) on the instrument.
- Never handle the power plug or instrument with wet hands.
- Do not place open flames (e.g., candles) on the instrument.
- Do not attempt to open or modify the instrument's internal components. Contact qualified service personnel for repairs.
- Avoid placing the instrument near heat sources like radiators.
- Do not bend, damage, or place heavy objects on the power cord.
- Ensure the instrument is used with the correct voltage as indicated on the instrument.
- Periodically check the power plug for dust and clean it.
- Do not plug the instrument into a power strip with other devices, as this may cause overheating.
- When unplugging, always pull the plug itself, not the cord.
- Do not insert fingers or foreign objects into the instrument's openings.
- Do not lean on the instrument or place heavy objects on it.
- Avoid prolonged use at high volume levels to prevent hearing damage.
Batteries
- Use only the specified battery type (e.g., AA alkaline or Ni-MH rechargeable).
- Install batteries of the same type and manufacturer, observing correct polarity.
- Remove batteries if the instrument will not be used for a long time.
- Do not dispose of batteries in fire.
- Do not attempt to recharge non-rechargeable batteries.
- Keep batteries away from metallic objects.
- ATTENTION: If batteries leak, avoid contact with the electrolyte. If electrolyte gets into eyes, mouth, or on skin, rinse immediately with water and seek medical attention.
Unusual Situations
- If you notice any of the following, immediately turn off the power and unplug the unit: damaged power cord/plug, unusual smell or smoke, foreign objects inside the instrument, or sudden sound interruption. Contact Yamaha service.
Placement
- Place the instrument on a stable surface to prevent it from falling.
- Disconnect all cables before moving the instrument.
- Ensure the power outlet is easily accessible.
- Use only the recommended stand and mounting screws.
Connection
- Turn off power to all connected electronic components before connecting or disconnecting them.
- Set the volume to minimum before turning power on/off.
Operation Guide
This section covers the basic operation of your Yamaha digital keyboard.
Powering On/Off
Turn the [MASTER VOLUME] knob to MIN. Press the [6] (Standby/On) switch to turn the instrument on. Press and hold the [6] switch for about a second to put it into standby mode.
Note: The instrument consumes minimal power even in standby mode. Disconnect the power cord when not in use for extended periods or during thunderstorms.
Auto Power Off Function
For energy saving, the instrument automatically turns off after 30 minutes of inactivity. This function can be disabled via the Function settings (Function No. 021).
Control Panel Overview
The control panel features various buttons and knobs for controlling the instrument:
- [6] (Standby/On): Powers the instrument on/off.
- [MASTER VOLUME]: Adjusts the overall volume.
- [DEMO]: Starts or stops a demonstration song. Holding this button cycles through playback groups.
- [METRONOME]: Starts or stops the metronome. Holding it accesses the Time Signature setting.
- [TEMPO/TAP]: Displays the Tempo screen. Use number buttons to set tempo for songs, styles, or metronome. Tapping the button also sets tempo.
- [PHRASE REC]: Records your own performances.
- Lesson Buttons ([1 LISTEN & LEARN], [2 TIMING], [3 WAITING]): Used for interactive lessons.
- [PART L]/[R]: Selects or mutes parts for songs. Pressing [L] enters Duo mode.
- Song Controls ([A-B REPEAT], [REW], [FF], [PAUSE]): For playback control of songs.
- Style Controls ([ACMP ON/OFF], [INTRO/ENDING/rit.], [MAIN/AUTO FILL], [SYNC START]): For controlling accompaniment styles.
- Number Buttons ([0]-[9], [+], [-]): Used for selecting various settings like Voices, Styles, Songs, and Tempo.
- [PORTABLE GRAND]: Instantly calls up a grand piano sound.
- [ULTRA-WIDE STEREO]: Activates the ULTRA-WIDE STEREO effect. Holding it accesses Master EQ Type settings.
- [SOUND EFFECT]: Plays various sound effects from the keyboard.
- [FUNCTION]: Cycles through various setting parameters.
Playing Modes
- Portable Grand: Press the [PORTABLE GRAND] button for an instant grand piano sound.
- Duo Mode: Allows two people to play simultaneously on the same keyboard. Press [6] (Standby/On) while holding [PART L] to activate. Turn off and on again to exit.
- Playing with Voices: Press [VOICE] and use number buttons to select a timbre.
- One-Touch Settings: Automatically selects appropriate Voices when a Style or Song is chosen.
Song Playback
Press [SONG], select a song using the number buttons, and press [START/STOP] to play. Press [PART] buttons to mute the melody part.
Style Playback
Press [STYLE], select a style using the number buttons, press [ACMP ON/OFF] to activate accompaniment, and [SYNC START] to start playback by playing a key. Use [INTRO/ENDING/rit.] to control intros, endings, and tempo changes.
Lessons
The instrument features interactive lessons:
- [1 LISTEN & LEARN]: Listen to the song.
- [2 TIMING]: Practice playing notes with correct rhythm.
- [3 WAITING]: Practice playing correct notes.
- After lessons [2] and [3], a score is displayed.
- Chord Study: Explore chord sounds by playing along with displayed notes.
Recording
Use [PHRASE REC] to record your own performances (approx. 300 notes or less). Press [START/STOP] to stop recording or playback.
Connecting External Devices
Use the [AUX IN] jack to connect external audio devices. Ensure correct audio cable impedance and connector types. Follow proper power on/off procedures for connected devices.
