Honeywell FK06 DialSet® Pressure Reducing Valve and Filter
Product Overview
The Honeywell FK06 DialSet® is a combination unit that integrates a pressure reducing valve with a rinseable fine filter. It is designed to provide a stable reduced pressure downstream from the valve, regardless of inlet pressure fluctuations, and to protect water systems from dirt and sediment.
Safety Guidelines
When installing and using this product, follow these directives:
- Follow all installation instructions carefully.
- Use and install the unit only if it is in good condition and suitable for its intended application.
- Consider local safety measures, potential hazards, and local codes.
- This device is designed for the applications detailed in these instructions. Any other use may not comply with requirements and will void the warranty.
- All assembly, commissioning, maintenance, and adjustment work must be performed by authorized personnel.
- Immediately correct any malfunction that could compromise safety.
- Install indoors only. Do not use in environments with UV radiation or solvent vapors.
Description of Functionality
The filter combination unit incorporates a pressure reducing valve and a rinseable fine filter in a single appliance. The integrated pressure reducing valve operates on a force-balanced principle, where diaphragm force is counteracted by an adjustment spring. Inlet pressure does not affect valve opening or closing, thus not impacting outlet pressure.
Application
Medium: Water
Inlet Pressure: Up to 250 psi (17.24 bar)
Outlet Pressure Range: 25 to 90 psi (1.5 to 6 bar)
The filter is suitable for potable water installations. For process water applications, individual testing of the filter is recommended.
Technical Data
Installation Position: Horizontal, with the filter bowl facing downwards.
Operating Pressure: 250 psi (17.24 bar)
Operating Temperature: 104°F (40°C)
Connection Sizes: 3/4", 1", 1-1/4"
Installation Instructions
General Directives
- Read these instructions thoroughly. Failure to comply may result in product damage or hazardous conditions.
- Verify the product ratings against your application requirements.
- Installation should be performed by a trained and experienced service technician.
- After installation, verify the product functions as described.
- Follow local requirements and good practice codes during installation.
Mounting Instructions
- Install on a horizontal pipe with the filter bowl oriented downwards. This ensures optimal filter efficiency.
- Install shutoff valves for isolation.
- Ensure adequate access for maintenance and inspection. The transparent filter bowl allows easy visibility of contamination.
- Locate the installation in a frost-protected area.
- It is recommended to install an anti-return valve at the inlet.
- IMPORTANT: When using soldered connections, do not solder them directly to the filter assembly, as excessive heat can irreparably damage internal components.
Rinsing Water Drainage
Rinse water must be drained to a drain such that no back pressure can occur.
- Drain into a drain connector.
- Drain into a floor drain.
Table 1: Rinse Water Quantity
Filter Size | Rinse Water Quantity* | Conn. Size (in) |
---|---|---|
3/4" to 1 1/4" (101-103) | 6.6 gallons (25 liters) | 3/4" (20) |
*At an inlet pressure of 58 psi (4 bar) for a rinsing duration of 15 seconds.
Maintenance
A planned maintenance contract with an installation company is recommended.
Inspection
Filter
Frequency: At least every 2 months, depending on local operating conditions.
- Non-compliance can lead to the filter becoming blocked, resulting in a pressure drop and reduced water flow.
- Filter meshes are made of stainless steel. A red coating from pipeline rust does not affect the filter's function.
- Inspection can be performed by an installation company or the operator.
Notes on Rinsing
- Filtered water can be drawn during rinsing.
- If rinsing into a container, place a suitable container underneath first.
- 1. Open the ball valve by turning the rinse knob until it is vertical.
- 2. Close the ball valve after approximately 15 seconds.
- A longer rinse period may be necessary if the filter is very dirty (refer to Maintenance section for filter mesh replacement).
Cleaning
CAUTION: Do not use cleansers containing solvents or alcohol on plastic parts.
The filter bowl and filter can be cleaned as needed.
Frequency: Every 6 months, depending on local operating conditions.
Cleaning should be performed by an installation company. Detergents must not enter the environment or the sewerage system.
- Close shutoff valve on inlet.
- Release pressure on outlet side (e.g., through a water tap).
- Close shutoff valve on outlet.
- Unscrew the filter bowl using the double ring wrench ZR06F.
- Remove the filter, clean it, and reinsert it.
- Place the O-ring onto the filter bowl.
- Screw the filter bowl hand-tight (without tools).
- Slowly open the shutoff valve on the inlet.
- Slowly open the shutoff valve on the outlet.
Disposal
The unit is composed of:
- Dezincification resistant brass housing
- Brass connections
- High-quality synthetic material valve insert
- High-quality synthetic material spring bonnet with adjustment knob and setting scale
- Spring steel adjustment spring
- Stainless steel fine filter
- Shock-resistant, clear transparent synthetic material filter bowl
- Fibre-reinforced NBR diaphragm
- NBR seals
NOTE: Observe local requirements for proper waste recycling and disposal.
Pressure Reducing Valve
Replacing the Cartridge (Fig. 4)
The working parts of the FK06, including the diaphragm, valve seat, strainer, and disk, are contained within a replaceable cartridge. To replace the cartridge:
- Close the shutoff valve on the inlet.
- Release pressure on the outlet side (e.g., through a water tap).
- Close the shutoff valve on the outlet.
- Loosen the slotted screw (do not remove the screw).
- CAUTION: To prevent injury or equipment damage, loosen the locknut and turn the adjusting screw counter-clockwise to remove spring tension.
- Slacken the compression spring tension by turning counter-clockwise until it stops moving.
- Unscrew the bonnet.
- Remove the slip ring.
- Remove the cartridge using pliers as a lever.
- Reassemble the bonnet in reverse order.
Recalibration
Recalibration is necessary if the dial knob assembly has been disassembled.
- Close the shutoff valve on the inlet.
- Release pressure on the outlet side (e.g., through a water tap).
- Close the shutoff valve on the outlet.
- Remove the dust cap.
- Loosen the slotted screw (do not remove the screw).
- Fit a pressure gauge.
- Slowly open the shutoff valve on the inlet.
- Set the desired outlet pressure (e.g., 60 psi).
- Align the scale (e.g., 60 psi) in the middle of the viewing window.
- Re-tighten the slotted screw.
- Slowly open the shutoff valve on the outlet.
