Good to Know: Ergonomic Principles

The human body is made to move, so ideally, your workspace should give you the choice of sitting, standing, or leaning, allowing you to change positions often.

Sitting

Proper sitting posture is crucial for comfort and productivity. Key considerations include:

  1. Legroom: Ensure you can stretch your legs under the table and turn 90 degrees left and right. Hips and knees should be at an angle of approximately 95-100 degrees with feet flat on the floor. Height-adjustable seats accommodate multiple users comfortably.
  2. Support: Adjustable seat depth and height-adjustable backrests allow you to find the perfect support for your legs and back, regardless of your height.
  3. Tilt Function: A chair with a tilt function, whether in the seat, backrest, or both, makes it easy to change your sitting position.
  4. Lumbar Support: The lumbar region is often the first to feel tired. Chairs with built-in lumbar support relieve pressure on your lower back.
  5. Armrests: Armrests reduce strain on arms and shoulders. Adjustable armrests provide even greater relief, accommodating different body heights. Ensure armrests do not prevent the chair from being drawn close to the desk or restrict movement.
  6. Headrest: Leaning back for a moment can be beneficial. A headrest provides relaxation for your head and neck during prolonged sitting.

Leaning

A standing support enables a position between sitting and standing, ideal with a height-adjustable desk. It offers:

  • Freedom of movement for your upper and lower body.
  • Activation and strengthening of your body's core muscles.
  • An open posture that improves circulation and metabolic rate.

Standing

Safety Casters

Safety casters are designed to prevent chairs from rolling away unintentionally. They feature a built-in pressure-sensitive brake mechanism that allows free rolling when sat upon and engages when standing up. Note: While braked, casters may still slide on the floor if the chair is pushed.
