Casio 5612 5613 Operation Guide

About This Manual

This manual provides information for operating your Casio watch. Digital display text may appear as dark figures on a light background or light figures on a dark background; sample displays use dark figures on a light background. Button operations are indicated by letters (A, B, C, D). Illustrations are for reference only and may differ slightly from the actual product. Each section covers operations for specific modes, with further details in the "Reference" section. For long-term service, carefully follow instructions under "Operating Precautions" and "User Maintenance."

General Guide

Press the C button to change between modes. In any mode (except a setting mode), press the B button to illuminate the watch face.

The watch has several modes: Timekeeping, Stopwatch, Alarm, Countdown Timer, and World Time. These are accessed by pressing the C button.

Timekeeping

The Timekeeping Mode allows adjustment of the Home Time city, date, and time. The analog time is synchronized with the digital time and adjusts automatically. If analog and digital times do not match, use the "To adjust home positions" procedure (page E-44). Pressing the D button in Timekeeping Mode toggles the digital display between Home City Date and Home City Time.

To set the digital time and date:

1. In Timekeeping Mode, press and hold A for at least three seconds until the city code flashes. This enters the setting mode.

2. Use D (east) and B (west) to select your Home City code. Ensure your Home City is set correctly before other settings.

3. Press C to cycle through settings: City Code, DST, 12/24-Hour Format, Seconds, Hour, Minutes, Day, Month, Year, Illumination Duration.

4. When a setting flashes, use D or B to change it. For example, use D/B to change city code, press D to toggle DST (on/OFF), press D to toggle illumination duration (LT1 for 1.5 seconds, LT3 for 3 seconds).

5. Press A to exit setting mode. The day of the week is displayed automatically based on the date settings.

Daylight Saving Time (DST):

DST advances the time by one hour. Not all regions observe DST. To change the DST setting:

1. Enter setting mode by holding A for three seconds in Timekeeping Mode.

2. Press C to display the DST setting screen.

Operating Precautions

Water Resistance: Applies to watches marked WATER RESIST or WATER RESISTANT. Usage examples are provided for 5, 10, and 20 atmospheres of resistance, covering hand washing, rain, water-related work, swimming, windsurfing, and skin diving. Not for scuba diving.

General Precautions:

  • Have battery replaced by a trained technician; special tools are required.
  • Avoid exposing leather bands to water.
  • Glass fogging due to temperature changes is normal if it clears quickly. If moisture persists, seek service.
  • Water-resistant watches are tested per ISO standards.
  • Watches without water resistance markings are not protected against sweat.
  • Do not operate buttons underwater. Avoid baths, saunas, and high humidity environments. Do not wear while washing hands or doing housework with soaps/detergents.
  • Rinse with plain water after exposure to seawater.
  • Gaskets should be replaced periodically (every 2-3 years) to maintain water resistance.

Temperature: Avoid extreme temperatures (hot or cold) as they can affect timekeeping or cause malfunction. High temperatures (+60°C/140°F) can affect the LCD; low temperatures (below 0°C/32°F) or high temperatures (above +40°C/104°F) can make the LCD difficult to read.

Impact: The watch is designed for normal daily use and light activity. Strong impact can cause malfunction. Shock-resistant models are more durable.

Chemicals: Avoid contact with solvents, gasoline, thinners, oils, fats, adhesives, paints, medicines, or cosmetics, as they can damage resin, leather, and other parts.

Storage: Store in a cool, dry place after wiping clean of dirt, sweat, and moisture.

Resin Components: Avoid prolonged contact between wet resin parts and other items to prevent color transfer.

Band: Do not overtighten the band to prevent skin irritation. Check for wear, cracks, looseness, or other abnormalities; stop use and seek service if found.

Magnetism: Avoid strong magnetic fields (speakers, necklaces, phones) as they can affect hand movement and timekeeping. Very strong magnetism (medical equipment) can cause malfunction and damage.

Electrostatic Charge: Strong electrostatic charge can cause incorrect time display or damage components. It may cause the display to blank momentarily or show rainbow effects.

Discoloration: Prolonged exposure to sunlight, dirt, friction, or moisture can cause discoloration of resin parts, painted components, or printed figures on the band. Wipe dry immediately after getting wet.

User Maintenance

Caring for Your Watch: Keep the watch and band clean by wiping with a soft cloth to remove dirt, sweat, and foreign matter. Rinse with fresh water if exposed to seawater or mud. For metal bands, use a soft toothbrush with mild detergent solution, rinse, and dry. For resin bands, wash with water and dry. Smudges on resin bands can be wiped off.

Dangers of Poor Watch Care:

  • Rust: Dirt can prevent oxygen contact, leading to rust on metal components, potentially causing sharp edges or band pin issues. Stop use and seek service if rust is noticed.
  • Premature Wear: Sweat, water, or high moisture can cause premature wear, cuts, or breaks in resin parts.
  • Skin Irritation: Sensitive individuals should keep bands clean. Discontinue use and consult a professional if irritation occurs.

Battery Replacement: Leave to authorized retailers or service centers. Use only the specified battery type. Request a water resistance check during battery replacement. Damaged components may prevent servicing.

Initial Battery: The factory-installed battery is for testing and may deplete faster than rated life. Replacement is chargeable, even within warranty.

Low Battery Power: Indicated by timekeeping errors, dim display, or blank screen. Malfunction may occur; replace the battery promptly.
