OUR FABRICS HAVE BEEN TESTED

IKEA tests fabric covers for durability and resistance to abrasion and fading. Abrasion resistance is tested using a machine rubbing fabric against another. Fabrics enduring 15,000 cycles are suitable for everyday furniture, while over 30,000 cycles indicate high resistance. All fabrics are checked for sunlight resistance to prevent fading.

Beyond machine tests, durability depends on materials, construction, and use. Tightly woven fabrics with flat surfaces resist abrasion best. Fabrics blending natural and synthetic fibers are more durable than those with only natural fibers. Yarn-dyed fabrics are more durable than printed ones.
