T:SLIM X2 Insulin Pump: Exercise Activity Guide
Instructions and information on using the Exercise Activity feature with the t:slim X2 insulin pump and Control-IQ technology.
Enabling Exercise Activity with a Timer
The t:slim X2 insulin pump allows users to program the Exercise Activity to automatically switch off after a set duration using the Exercise timer.
Step 1: From the Home screen, tap OPTIONS and then Activity.
? Note: These instructions are a reference for pump users and caregivers already familiar with insulin pumps and therapy. Not all screens are shown. Refer to the user guide for comprehensive information.
Step 2: Tap Exercise.
? Note: Activities may not be enabled simultaneously. If programmed, Sleep Schedules will automatically start once Exercise is disabled.
Step 3: Tap Set a Timer.
? Note: If no timer is programmed, the Exercise Activity must be manually turned off.
Step 4: Tap Duration to edit the timer duration. Skip to Step 6 if you wish to continue with the default or previously set duration.
Step 5: Use the on-screen keypad to enter the desired time (duration can be set from 30 minutes to 8 hours). Tap the checkmark (✔️) to continue.
Step 6: Tap START to activate the Exercise Activity. The "EXERCISE STARTED" screen will appear.
Step 7: Exercise is now enabled and displayed on the Home screen. The Exercise Activity will automatically disable once the timer ends.
Manually Enabling Exercise Activity
In addition to using the Exercise Timer, the Exercise Activity can be manually turned on and off directly from the t:slim X2 insulin pump.
Step 1: From the Home screen, tap OPTIONS and then Activity. Tap Exercise.
Step 2: Tap START to manually turn on the Exercise Activity.
Step 3: Exercise is now enabled. To disable the Exercise Activity, tap anywhere on the Exercise button from the Activity screen.
How it Works: Control-IQ Technology and Exercise
The t:slim X2 insulin pump, powered by Control-IQ technology, utilizes continuous glucose monitoring (CGM) values to predict glucose levels up to 30 minutes in advance and automatically adjusts insulin delivery every 5 minutes.
When the Exercise Activity is enabled, Control-IQ technology uses a tighter range of treatment values (140-160 mg/dL) to determine basal insulin adjustments. It uses a predicted value of 80 mg/dL to decide when to stop basal insulin delivery.
Visual Description of Glucose and Insulin Delivery during Exercise:
A graph displays predicted glucose levels over time. Dashed lines indicate target ranges (e.g., 140-160 mg/dL). Below the graph, "Insulin Delivery" is shown with bars representing changes:
- Increases: Insulin delivery increases.
- Maintains: Insulin delivery is maintained.
- Stops: Insulin delivery stops.
* CGM is sold separately.
Configuration Settings
- Control-IQ technology must be active, and a CGM session must be running on the t:slim X2 insulin pump to start the Exercise Activity.
- Exercise Activity will automatically disable if Sleep Activity is manually enabled. Any enabled Sleep Schedules will not commence until the Exercise Activity concludes.
- Automatic correction boluses (?) may be delivered up to once per hour while the Exercise Activity is active.
* If predicted glucose values exceed 180 mg/dL, Control-IQ technology calculates a correction bolus based on Personal Profile settings and a target of 110 mg/dL, delivering 60% of that value. An Automatic Correction Bolus will not occur within 60 minutes of a previously delivered or canceled bolus.
Important Safety Information
RX ONLY. The t:slim X2 pump and Control-IQ technology are intended for single patient use and are indicated for use with U-100 insulin only.
t:slim X2 insulin pump: This is an interoperable, alternate controller enabled (ACE) pump designed for subcutaneous insulin delivery at set and variable rates for diabetes management. It securely communicates with compatible digital devices, including automated insulin dosing software.
Control-IQ technology: This technology is intended for use with a compatible integrated continuous glucose monitor (iCGM, sold separately) and ACE pump. It automatically adjusts basal insulin delivery based on iCGM readings and predicted glucose values and can deliver correction boluses when glucose is predicted to exceed a threshold.
Indications: Both the t:slim X2 pump and Control-IQ technology are indicated for individuals six years of age and older for the management of Type 1 diabetes mellitus.
WARNING: Control-IQ technology is not recommended for individuals under six years old, those requiring less than 10 units of insulin daily, or those weighing less than 55 pounds. It is also not indicated for pregnant women, people on dialysis, or critically ill patients. Do not use if taking hydroxyurea.
User Responsibilities: Users must follow instructions for use for the pump, CGM, and all system components. Regular blood glucose testing, adequate carb-counting skills, sufficient diabetes self-care skills, and regular healthcare provider visits are essential. Users must have adequate vision and/or hearing to recognize pump functions, alerts, and reminders.
MRI/CT/Diathermy: The t:slim X2 pump, CGM transmitter, and sensor must be removed before MRI, CT, or diathermy treatments.

Responsible Use of Control-IQ Technology: Control-IQ technology does not prevent all high or low blood glucose events and is not a substitute for meal boluses or active self-management of diabetes. Its predictive capabilities depend on proper CGM function and communication with the pump. Always monitor symptoms and blood glucose levels and treat accordingly.
