- Keep packing materials (plastic bags, Styrofoam) out of reach of children.
- Place the appliance on a firm, level surface away from water faucets, sinks, and heat sources.
- Ensure at least 2 inches (5 cm) of space around the appliance and 8 inches (20 cm) above it.
- Never install in environments where temperatures may reach 32°F (0°C) or lower, as freezing water can damage the appliance.
- Check that the mains voltage corresponds to the appliance's rating plate. Connect only to an efficiently grounded outlet with a minimum 10A rating.
- If the power socket does not match the plug, have it replaced by a qualified electrician.
- The power cord must not be replaced by the user; contact an authorized De'Longhi service center for replacement.
Setting the Clock
Plug in the appliance. The display will show "AM 0:00" on first use. To set the time, press and hold the SET CLOCK button (refer to illustration 1 on page 3) until the correct hour is displayed, then release the button. The time can be set at any moment.
How to Make Drip Coffee
IMPORTANT: Before first use, wash all accessories and internal circuits by making at least two carafes with water only, no ground coffee.
- Ensure the inspection lid is correctly closed.
- Open the frontal door by pulling the handle. Using the carafe, pour fresh water into the water compartment up to the level corresponding to the desired number of cups (refer to illustration 2 on page 3). Use the carafe as a measure, as its maximum capacity matches the water tank's capacity (refer to illustration 3 on page 3).
- Position the permanent filter (if included) or a paper filter in the filter holder (refer to illustration 4 on page 3).
- Place ground coffee in the filter using the measuring spoon and level it evenly (refer to illustration 5 on page 3). Refer to Chart 1 for recommended quantities. Use good quality, medium grind coffee.
Chart 1: Recommended Quantities
N° CUPS | N° MEASURING SPOONS* | |
---|---|---|
DCF2212T / DCF2112T | 12 | 12 |
10 | 10 | |
8 | 8 | |
6 | 6 | |
4 | 4 |
*1 level measuring spoon = 1 tablespoon (0.17 oz. / 5 gr.). Adjust quantity to taste.
The Specialty Coffee Association of America recommends 2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water. Refer to Chart 2 for this standard, which results in exceptionally strong coffee.
Chart 2: Quantities Recommended by the Specialty Coffee Association of America
N° CUPS | N° MEASURING SPOONS* |
---|---|
12 | - |
10 | 15 |
8 | 13 |
6 | 10 |
4 | 8 |
*1 level measuring spoon = 1 tablespoon (0.17 oz. / 7.4 gr.). Quantities are indicative; do not exceed 15 measuring spoons to avoid overflow. Coffee type affects taste; experiment with different blends.
- For models with glass carafe: Close the frontal door and place the closed carafe on the non-stick warming plate (refer to illustration 6 on page 3).
- For models with thermal carafe: Before placing the carafe on the plate, ensure the lid is closed (refer to illustration 7 on page 3).
- AROMA Button: Enhances flavor by releasing water slowly into the filter basket, saturating grounds gradually for richer aroma. Press the AROMA button to activate (light illuminates); press again to deactivate. Recommended when not brewing a full carafe.
- Press the ON/AUTO/OFF button (refer to illustration 8 on page 3). The red indicator light and "BREW" on the display show operation.
- Coffee will start to drip after a few seconds. Some steam release during brewing is normal.
- Glass Carafe Models: The warming plate keeps coffee hot. The unit automatically shuts off after two hours.
- Thermal Carafe Models: To pour, turn the lid to the position shown in illustration 9 on page 3. To remove the lid completely, turn it to the position shown in illustration 10 on page 3. The appliance switches off automatically after brewing.
- Important: Removing the carafe before brewing is complete stops coffee flow into the carafe but does not interrupt brewing. If serving immediately, do so quickly to avoid spills.
Programming the Automatic Start (AUTO)
Ensure the time is set correctly.
- To program the start time, press and hold the SET TIMER button until the desired time is reached. Release the button; the time will flash briefly before setting, then the display shows the current hour.
- Activating the Timer: After setting the time and preparing the machine, press the ON/AUTO/OFF button twice quickly (refer to illustration 11 on page 3). The ON/AUTO indicator light turns green, and the display shows "AUTO".
Cleaning and Maintenance
Before cleaning, switch off, unplug, and let the appliance cool down.
- Do not use solvents or abrasive detergents. A soft, damp cloth is sufficient.
- Never immerse the coffee maker in water, as it is an electrical appliance.
- If necessary: unhook the inspection lid (refer to illustration 12 on page 3) – the appliance must be off and unplugged! Always close the lid (refer to illustration 13 on page 3) before using the appliance.
Descaling (for select models)
Hard water can cause lime scale buildup, affecting performance. Descale every 60 uses.
- Dilute descaler in the carafe according to product instructions.
- Pour solution into the water compartment.
- Place the carafe on the warming plate.
- Turn on the coffee maker, let one cup brew, then switch off.
- Let the solution work for 15 minutes; repeat steps 4 and 5.
- Turn on the coffee maker and run the solution until the tank is empty.
- Rinse by running at least three full tanks of water through the machine.
Failure to perform regular cleaning may void the warranty.
