Wiring Diagrams
Single-Pole Wiring
This diagram illustrates the wiring for a single-pole installation.
- Line: Connects to the 120 V Power Source.
- Neutral: Connects to the Neutral wire from the Power Source and Load.

Typical Three-Way Wiring
This diagram shows a typical three-way wiring setup, allowing remote control.
- Line: Connects to the 120 V Power Source.
- Neutral: Connects to the Neutral wire from the Power Source and Load.
- Timer: The central unit.
- Existing Remote Switch: Connected between the Line and the Timer via a Red wire (up to 100 ft. MAX).
- Load: Connects to the device being controlled.

Product Overview
The Ascend 7-Day Timer portfolio includes two models: the ST700W Standard and the STW700W Wi-Fi enabled. Both models feature an intuitive control interface. The Wi-Fi enabled Timer offers a mobile app for quick setup, schedule saving for transfer to other Ascend Wi-Fi timers, and convenient monitoring from compatible Apple or Android mobile devices.
Access Point Mode
Creates a peer-to-peer communication network between the Timer and your mobile device for direct connection during initial setup, scheduling, and control.
Wi-Fi Mode (Local)
- Connects the Timer to your local wireless network.
- Provides constant connection for all Timers on your network when using the app.
Remote Access (Cloud)
Establishing an Intermatic Connect Account and registering your Timer(s) enables access from anywhere with an active Wi-Fi or cellular connection.
Voice Integration
Works with Alexa and Google Home. Setup requires the Alexa or Google Home apps. See the Intermatic website for installation details.
When paired with Alexa or Google Home, users can command the Timer ON/OFF, change modes, or get Timer status.
Setup Instructions
ST700W: Go to the 'Initial Setup at Timer' section for instructions.
STW700W: Go to the 'Initial Setup at Timer' section for instructions. Additionally, download the Intermatic Connect App from the Apple Store or Google Play Store and follow the in-app instructions to set up your timer.

The timer features a user interface with navigation buttons and an LCD display.
Navigation Controls
- Menu: Accesses the main menu. ☰
- Scroll Up/Down: Navigates through options. ⬆️ / ⬇️
- ON/OFF or ENTER: Confirms selections or turns the device on/off. ?
LCD Display Icons and Indicators
- Mode of Operation: Shows current mode (e.g., AUTO).
- Lock: Indicates if the timer is locked. ?
- Wi-Fi: Shows Wi-Fi status. ?
- Mobile Device Connected: Indicates connection to a mobile device.
- Current Switch State: Displays ON or OFF status.
- Current Day/Time: Shows the current day and time.
- Next Scheduled Event: Displays the next programmed ON or OFF event.

Initial Setup at Timer
This section guides you through setting up the timer directly on the device.
Setup Process
- Press MENU for one-time setup.
- Scroll UP/DOWN to the desired option on the menu screen.
- The selected option will blink.
- Press ENTER to confirm and move to the next menu.
Alternative Setup: Use the Intermatic Connect App. Visit Intermatic.com and search for STW700W for app details.
Note: The app setup option is only for the STW700W Wi-Fi enabled model. Press ENTER to begin setup for the ST700W standard model. All screens must be completed before returning to the Timer interface.

The SSID and Wi-Fi icons are not available for the ST700W model.
Setting Time & Date
- Time Format: Select AM/PM or 24-hour format.
- Time: Set the current time (e.g., 12:00 AM).
- Date: Set the current date (e.g., 01/01/17).
- Daylight Saving Time: Turn ON or OFF.
Location and Time Zone Setup
Enter Location Settings:
- Latitude: e.g., 42.0°
- Longitude: e.g., -82.5°
Select Country: USA, Mexico, Canada.
Set Time Zone: Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern.
After entering these details, press ENTER for 'Settings Saved'.
Schedule Setup
After saving settings, you will be prompted: 'Do you want to setup a schedule?'
- Select 'YES' to proceed with schedule setup.
- Select 'NO' to skip schedule setup and finish.
The timer will then show 'SETUP COMPLETE' in either AUTO or MANUAL mode.

Modes
The timer offers different operating modes:
Mode | Description |
---|---|
Auto | Timer operates using your programmed schedule of weekly ON/OFF events. |
Random | Similar to Auto mode, but programmed schedule occurs randomly at +/- 15 minutes from the programmed time. |
Manual | Operates like a manual toggle switch to turn devices ON and OFF, regardless of programmed schedules. |
To enter Auto or Random mode, a programmed schedule must be loaded into memory.
Schedule Templates
Templates provide pre-set schedules that can override your current schedule.
Select Templates
- Navigate to Schedule > Templates.
- Options include 'Edit Schedule', 'Templates', and 'Clear'.
Available Templates
- Template 1 of 3: On @ Dusk, Off @ Dawn, All Days
- Template 2 of 3: On @ Dusk, Off @ 10:00 PM, All Days
- Template 3 of 3: On @ 5:00 AM, Off @ Dawn, On @ Dusk, Off @ 10:00 PM, All Days
You will be prompted to CONFIRM if you want to overwrite the active schedule with a selected template.
Once a Template becomes your current schedule, you can edit the events. Template events in this menu cannot be altered. Reference page 14 to Edit Schedule events.
New Schedule Creation
This section details how to create custom schedules.
Menu Options
- Navigate to Schedule > Edit Schedule > Add New Event.
Event Configuration
Action
- Enter to modify Action. 'Turn OFF' will blink.
- Scroll UP/DOWN to select 'Turn On' or 'Turn Off'.
- Press ENTER to confirm.
Days
- Enter to modify Days. 'No Days' will blink.
- Scroll UP/DOWN to select:
- All Days
- Weekdays
- Weekends
- Define Days
- For 'Define Days', use UP/DOWN to select/deselect specific days (Sun, Mon, Tue, Wed, Thu, Fri, Sat) and press ENTER to confirm each day.
- Press ENTER to confirm the day selection.
Time
- Enter to modify Time. 'No Time' will blink.
- Scroll UP/DOWN to select:
- Define Time
- Dusk
- Dawn
- Press ENTER to confirm your selection.
- For 'Define Time', use UP/DOWN to increase/decrease the time.
- Press ENTER to confirm the time.
The Offset function allows Dusk/Dawn events to activate before or after the actual Dusk/Dawn time for your location. You can set an offset of +/- 0 to 120 minutes.
Edit Schedule
Modify or remove existing schedule events.
Selecting an Event
- Navigate to Schedule > Edit Schedule.
- Scroll UP/DOWN to select the event you wish to edit or add a new event.
- Press ENTER to select an event.
Editing an Event
- After selecting an event, choose 'Edit' to change its Action, Days, or Time. (Refer to page 12 for options).
- Choose 'Clear' to remove the event from the schedule.
'Clear' will delete the current schedule.
Error Messages
Troubleshoot common error messages:

Configure various timer settings.
Menu Options
- Navigate to Settings.
- Options include: Time & Date, Location, System, Wi-Fi.
Time & Date Settings
- Time Format: Select 12-hour (AM/PM) or 24-hour format.
- Time: Set the current time.
- Date: Set the current date.
- Daylight Saving Time: Turn ON or OFF.
Location Settings
Program your latitude, longitude, country, and timezone.
- Latitude: e.g., 42.0°
- Longitude: e.g., -82.5°
- Country: USA, Mexico, Canada.
- Timezone: Pacific, Mountain, Central, Eastern.
System Settings
Setting | Description |
---|---|
Lock Timer | Prevents access to Timer schedules and functions. To unlock, press and hold the UP and DOWN buttons for three seconds. |
Auto-Sleep | Dims the display after one minute of inactivity. |
System Restart | Resets the timer but maintains all settings and schedules. Restores communication between the timer and router (STW700W only). |
Set Factory Defaults | Restores the timer to out-of-box condition, clearing programming, time settings, schedules, error log, and Wi-Fi settings. |
Wi-Fi Settings (STW700W Model Only)
Clears and resets your Wi-Fi to Access Point Mode. To re-establish a Wi-Fi connection, refer to the app.
- Reset WiFi: NO (Erases Wi-Fi settings).
Info Menu Overview
Access information about your timer.
Menu Options
- Navigate to Info.
- Options include: Wireless, Dawn/Dusk, Error Log, About.
Wireless Settings (STW700W Model Only)
View IP Address, Timer SSID number, and security PIN.

Your security PIN is a unique code that allows the app to connect to your Timer.
Dawn/Dusk
Shows current time, date, and associated Dawn or Dusk times for your set location.

Troubleshooting
This section addresses common problems and their solutions.
