Installation and Setup
The WING-DANTE card is an expansion card for the WING console, enabling 64x64 channels of audio over a standard Ethernet IP network using the Dante protocol. It supports single or redundant Ethernet connections.
Card Description
The WING-DANTE card features:
- Two Neutrik EtherCON connectors.
- An ACT/LINK LED that indicates a valid IP network connection (green).
- A 1 G LED that indicates operation on a 1 GBit/s network (amber).
- Two small handles (St) for easy removal from the slot.
- Two outer screws (M3 x 6) for securing the card in the slot.
- Three countersunk screws that fix the PCBA to the bracket (do not remove these).
Installation Precautions
General Safety:
- Always ensure the console power is OFF before installing the card to prevent malfunctions or electric shock.
- Touch the console's grounded metal chassis before handling the card to discharge static electricity.
- Handle the card by its faceplate or small handles, avoiding contact with components on the circuit board.
- Align the card with the slot guides and insert it carefully. Ensure it slides in smoothly and is fully seated.
- Secure the card with the provided screws.
- If removing a previous card, store it safely in the WING-DANTE's protective bag.
System Requirements
Refer to audinate.com for PC hardware and software requirements (Minimum System Requirements). Dante Virtual Soundcard drivers are optionally available at audinate.com.
Connection Scenarios
5.1 WING-DANTE Connection to Dante Network
This setup involves connecting the WING console via a network router to a PC and other Dante-enabled audio devices. The PC can simultaneously perform three tasks: run Dante Controller for signal routing, run Dante Virtual Soundcard (DVS) for recording/playback, and run editing/control applications.
5.2 WING-DANTE Direct Connection to PC/Mac and Dante Virtual Soundcard
This scenario describes a direct connection from the WING console to a PC or Mac using Dante Virtual Soundcard for recording/playback of up to 64x64 channels.
5.3 WING-DANTE Redundant Network Infrastructure
This setup utilizes two separate routers with independent wiring to connect to a second WING, X32, or other Dante-enabled device, ensuring redundant network connectivity.
5.4 WING-DANTE Connection to Midas HD96-24 with Dante Option
This illustrates connecting the WING console with the WING-DANTE card to a Midas HD96-24 console using Cat 5/6 AES50 and Cat 5/6 Ethernet cables.
WING Setup
6.1 Routing
Access the Routing screen by pressing the ROUTING button on the WING console. Select WING-DANTE from the Input Group menu to configure all 64 channels, including names, scribble strips, and tags. Icons at the top of the Routing screen allow selection of Inputs or Outputs. Routing is performed from the console's perspective; selecting Outputs routes signals to the Dante network. Press the unlock icon to edit output routing. Switching to Inputs allows routing signals from the Dante network to input channels or physical outputs.
Refer to audinate.com for comprehensive documentation, FAQs, and forum advice on configuring Dante Controller and Dante Virtual Soundcard applications.
6.2 Synchronization
Card settings, including clock synchronization, can be adjusted via the Dante Controller application. A master word clock source must be selected for the network. Users can choose between the WING's internal clock or the WING-DANTE clock. In Dante Controller, the WING-DANTE card may appear with its chip name (e.g., BKLYN-II-06f732), but a new name can be assigned in the Device View window.
Audinate Software Tools
Dante Controller
Dante Controller is Audinate's software application for configuring and routing audio across Dante networks. It is available for PCs (Windows) and Macs (OSX 10.5). Dante Controller must be installed on at least one PC/Mac on the Dante network to change signal routing or clocking. It is not required if the network is pre-configured for audio transmission between Dante devices.
Dante Virtual Soundcard
Dante Virtual Soundcard transforms your PC or Mac into a Dante-enabled device, enabling Dante audio traffic transmission and reception via a standard Ethernet port without additional hardware. On Windows, it uses Steinberg's ASIO audio interface and is compatible with ASIO/WDM audio applications. On Mac OSX, it uses the standard Core Audio interface and is compatible with most standard audio applications. Visit audinate.com for download and licensing information.
