DIGITAL MIXER OPTION X-ADAT
High-Performance 32-Channel ADAT / Wordclock Expansion Card for X32
Introduction
The X-ADAT card is a multi-channel audio interface expansion card for the X32 series digital mixers. It provides 32 channels of input and output via 8 Toslink interfaces and wordclock synchronization via a coaxial interface. This interface is ideal for recording with standalone ADAT hard disk recorders and offers unique digital insert options for integrating external processors and ADAT connections.
Installation
Before installing the X-ADAT expansion card into the X32 mixer's expansion slot, please visit behringer.com to confirm that the mixer's firmware supports this expansion card.
Important: Before installing the X-ADAT expansion card into the mixer, ensure the mixer's power is turned OFF. Failure to do so may cause malfunctions or electric shock.
- Ensure the mixer's power is turned OFF.
- Unscrew the two screws on the left and right of the expansion slot, remove the slot cover or the currently installed expansion card, and place it in a safe location.
- Before removing the X-ADAT expansion card from its protective bag, it is recommended to touch the mixer's grounded metal chassis to prevent electrostatic discharge that could affect sensitive electronic components. It is best to hold the expansion card by gripping the panel or the two small handles, but do not directly touch the components on the circuit board.
- Align the expansion card's two ends with the guides in the slot, and carefully insert the expansion card into the slot. Continue pushing the expansion card into the slot until the card's contacts are properly inserted into the internal interface.
- Secure the expansion card using the supplied screws. Ensure the expansion card is securely fastened, otherwise, it may cause damage or malfunction.
Requirement: The firmware version of the X32 series mixers should be 2.0 or higher.
Connection Board
The X-ADAT card features:
- A single BNC coaxial connector for input/output, switchable, with no internal termination. The LED indicates WC output (master mode).
- 4 Toslink input connectors and 4 Toslink output connectors, providing 8 channels per interface.
- 2 small handles for removing the expansion card from the slot.
- 2 M3x6 screws for securing the expansion card in the slot.
- 3 small countersunk screws for securing the PCB. Do not loosen these screws.

X32 Installation
The X-ADAT card can be selected as the clock source on the X32 Setup/config page. In this case, the X32 will be slaved to the ADAT clock received from the BNC input or Toslink input. Note that if the internal and external clock frequencies differ (e.g., 44.1/48 kHz), the mixer must be restarted.
Word Clock I/O and Sync Source Selection:
Word Clock I/O:
- Sync Source: Selectable between Local Clock, Slave mode (input) for synchronizing the console to an external word clock, and Master mode (output) for providing system word clock to external devices.
- BNC Word Clock I/O: A single BNC connector for input/output, switchable.
Clock Source Selection for ADAT Input/Output:
- Select ADAT clock source: Either use ADAT clock from the BNC input or Toslink input for synchronization.
- Fiber Optic Input 1-4 or Coaxial BNC Word Clock Input: These are the selectable clock sources.
- Internal Clock: Indicates the X32 mixer's internal clock.
When synchronizing the console to an external WC or ADAT source, ensure Clock Synchronization is set to "X-ADAT" on the Setup/config page.
Important Safety Information
Warnings
