Panadero Sydney Wood Burning Stove
Brand: Panadero
Model: Sydney
Introduction: Wood as an Ecological Fuel
Wood is a renewable energy source meeting 21st-century energy and environmental demands. Trees grow using sunlight, water, mineral salts, and CO2, providing essential oxygen. Burning wood releases no more CO2 than its natural decomposition, respecting natural cycles and not contributing to the greenhouse effect. Wood ash is a valuable fertilizer rich in mineral salts. Choosing a Panadero wood stove benefits the environment, offers economical heating, and provides the aesthetic pleasure of watching flames.
Diagram Description: A visual representation of the carbon cycle related to wood burning. It shows a tree absorbing CO2 and releasing oxygen, and a stove burning wood, releasing CO2. The cycle is depicted as balanced, emphasizing wood's ecological nature.
Usage and Maintenance Instructions
Position of the Smoke Pipe
- Place the first tube in the smoke outlet at the top of the stove and attach the next tube.
- Connect it to the rest of the chimney.
- If the tubing extends outdoors, fit a "hat" to the end.
Installation
This wood-burning stove features a vermiculite-insulated combustion chamber. Do not remove the vermiculite boards.
- All local, national, and European regulations must be followed during installation.
- The smoke outlet installation should be as vertical as possible, minimizing joints and angles. For masonry chimneys, ensure tubes reach the exterior exit. For tubing-only outlets, a minimum of three meters of vertical tubing is recommended.
- IMPORTANT: Installation and regular cleaning must be performed by a qualified professional. The ventilation opening must never be obstructed.
- IMPORTANT: The stove must be installed in a well-ventilated area, ideally with an openable window in the room.
- Seal tube connections with refractory putty to prevent soot leakage.
- Do not position the stove near combustible walls. Install on a non-combustible floor. If the floor is not suitable, use a protective metal plate extending at least 15 cm to the sides and 30 cm to the front.
- Remove any flammable materials (furniture, curtains, paper, clothes) from the vicinity of the stove during use. Refer to the last page for minimum safety distances.
- Ensure easy access for cleaning the product, smoke outlet, and chimney. Maintain a minimum distance from inflammable walls for easier cleaning.
- The stove requires an 80 mm diameter outside air intake; install an 80 mm pipe for external air supply.
- This stove is not compatible with shared chimney systems.
- Ensure the floor has adequate support. If not, use a weight distribution plate.
Fuel
- Use only dry wood with a maximum moisture content of 20%. Wood with higher moisture content burns poorly, produces tar, and creates excess sediment.
- Light fires using special fire lighters, paper, or small wood pieces. Avoid alcohol or similar products.
- Do not burn household waste, plastic, or greasy products, as they pollute the environment and can cause pipe blockages and fire hazards.
Function
- Initial smoke during the first few uses is normal as heat-resistant paint components burn off. Ensure the room is aired until smoke disappears.
- The woodstove is not designed to operate with the door open.
- The stove is intended for intermittent use with intervals for refueling.
- For lighting, use paper, lighters, or small wood. Once the fire is established, add two logs (2.5-3 kg each). Keep air inlets fully open during lighting. The ash drawer can also be opened initially. Once the fire is intense, close the ash drawer and regulate fire intensity via air inlets.
- To achieve nominal heat output, add approximately 2.5 kg of wood (two logs of ~1 kg each) every 45 minutes. Position logs horizontally and spaced for optimal combustion. Only add new fuel when the previous load has burned down to embers.
- For slow combustion, regulate fire using air draughts, ensuring they remain unblocked for air distribution.
- Brass parts may turn coppery after initial lighting.
- The glass door seal may melt with use; replacement is recommended seasonally.
- The lower ash drawer can be removed for cleaning. Empty it regularly to prevent grill damage. Be cautious as ash can remain hot for up to 24 hours.
- Do not open the door abruptly to avoid smoke release; always open the air draught first. Open the door only to add fuel.
- The glass, brass parts, and stove can reach very high temperatures. Use the provided glove for handling metal parts to avoid burns.
- Keep children away from the stove.
- If lighting is difficult (e.g., due to cold weather), use folded or crumpled paper.
- If the stove becomes too hot, close the air draughts to reduce fire intensity.
- For malfunctions, contact the manufacturer.
- For optimal performance, open only the primary air on ignition. After 1-2 minutes, reduce primary air to a small opening for slow combustion.
Maintenance
- Periodically clean the glass door panel to prevent soot buildup. Use professional cleaning products; never use water. Never clean the stove while in use.
- Regularly clean the smoke outlet tubing and check for blockages before relighting after a period of non-use. A professional should service the installation at the start of each season.
- In case of a smoke outlet fire, close all air draughts if possible and contact authorities immediately.
- Only use replacement parts recommended by the manufacturer.
- The fiberglass cord for seals may degrade; replace with new fiberglass tape if necessary.
