Rear Panel Controls Explained
Volume
The volume control is for matching the subwoofer volume to the level of your speakers. Adjust for the strongest bass without being "boomy". The S6 volume controls the subwoofer level only and does not control the input volume; overall system volume is controlled from your music source.
Low-pass crossover
The crossover control sets the subwoofer's high-frequency cutoff point, determining where the subwoofer transitions to your main speakers. For example, setting it to 50Hz means the subwoofer plays frequencies up to 50Hz, and your speakers handle 50Hz and higher. Fine-tune this setting by ear for the smoothest blend with your main speakers.
Phase switch
Phase indicates the degree to which the subwoofer and other speakers are moving at the same time. After choosing a location for your S6, try moving the phase switch while listening for the most bass. No difference in sound is acceptable, as there's no single correct phase setting, and it can vary based on room and sub location.
Inputs
The S6 features two audio inputs: a 3.5mm mini-jack and RCA Left/Right inputs. These are line-level inputs for connecting your music source (AV receiver, preamp, powered speakers, etc.). Both inputs are active, allowing connection of two different sources simultaneously.
LFE input
If your preamp or AV receiver has an LFE (Low Frequency Effects) output, use the single Left/LFE input on the S6 rear panel.
Standby auto on/off switch
When set to "Auto on", the S6 will enter Standby mode after 15 minutes of no detected signal. Changing the switch to "Off" disables this feature.
Power on/Standby indicator
This indicator is GREEN when an input signal is present (music playing) and AMBER when no signal is present. The S6 automatically enters Standby mode after 15 minutes of no detected signal.
Placement, Cleaning, and Support
Placement
The S6 is forgiving regarding room placement and settings. Don't be intimidated if you're not an audio expert; there's no single "right" or "wrong" room placement. Try different locations while listening to music to understand how placement affects the sound.
Wireless Option
If you need to place your S6 away from your speakers or music system, consider the Audioengine W3 wireless adapters. The S6 has a built-in power port on the rear panel ideal for powering the W3 wireless receiver.
Cleaning
Audioengine does not recommend using solvents or cleaners. Simply wipe down the cabinets with a soft, dry cloth.
