Liquid Handling
Pipette Selection Guide
Gilson liquid handling tools offer precise control for sample and reagent transfers, ensuring reproducible results. They are ergonomically designed for ease of use, from manual units to automated systems.
Pipette Families
Manual Air-Displacement Pipettes: Accurate for standard applications, using an air cushion between the pipette and sample. Recommended for aqueous, non-viscous samples. Performance can be affected by temperature and atmospheric pressure.
Electronic Air-Displacement Pipettes: Similar to manual versions but use an electronic motor for piston movement, reducing pipetting forces, RSI risk, and improving comfort and reproducibility.
Positive-Displacement Pipettes: Ideal for viscous, volatile, foaming, hot, cold, or contaminated liquids. A disposable piston within the capillary tip contacts the sample directly, eliminating the air cushion and ensuring accuracy is not affected by fluid properties. Prevents contamination and protects the user and pipette.
