SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS

1. Battery Installation / Bowl Alignment

Remove the feeder lid by pressing down the lid and pushing in the sprung clips on both sides. Lift the food bowl off the feeder base and remove the battery cover by releasing the retaining clip. Insert 3 x AA batteries using the orientation symbols marked on the inside of the compartment. Replace the battery cover.

After a short period of self-testing, the clock display will show 12:00 AM, outlined by a highlight frame, with four feeding time indicators showing '--:--' beneath. Temporarily replace the food bowl and lid. If the lid and bowl are not correctly aligned, remove the lid then press the ADJ/SET and UP buttons together for 3 seconds to achieve alignment.

Good quality alkaline batteries should normally last approximately 12 months (dependent on use). Other battery types may be used, but the low battery indicator will only work correctly with standard alkaline batteries.

2. Setting the Clock

Note: To change the clock between 24-hour and 12-hour (AM/PM) formats, press and hold the ADJ/SET button together with the DOWN arrow button until the format changes.

If no button is pressed within 30 seconds during setting, all digits will stop flashing and any adjustments made will revert to default/previous settings.

If necessary, use the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to move the highlight frame to the clock display. To set the clock, press and hold the ADJ/SET button for 5 seconds until the hour figure starts to flash. Press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to adjust the clock to the correct hour. Press the ADJ/SET button again, and the minute figure will flash. Adjust the minutes using the UP or DOWN arrow buttons. Press ADJ/SET to save the setting.

3. Meal Time Setting

The C500 feeder will automatically serve meals at the same time(s) every day once you have set the required meal times. You can set up to 4 meals per day. Meal times will automatically sort into chronological order on the display. The next meal will be served at the next programmed meal time.

To set a meal time: Press the UP or DOWN arrow buttons to move the highlight frame to the desired meal (MEAL 1-4). Press and hold the ADJ/SET button for 3 seconds until the hours start to flash. Set the hour using the UP or DOWN arrow buttons. Press ADJ/SET to save. The minute figure will flash. Adjust using the UP or DOWN arrow buttons. Press ADJ/SET to save. Meal times can only be set in 10-minute increments.

To cancel a meal time setting, highlight the meal time, press and hold ADJ/SET until it flashes, then press the UP and DOWN arrow buttons together until the time disappears.

4. Testing Your C500 Feeder

Your C500 feeder is manufactured from top quality materials. Ensure its correct operation with your pet(s) while you are in attendance by completing setup as follows:

1. Fill the required number of bowls, starting clockwise from '1'. (Only fill bowl '0' if an immediate meal is required). Do not overfill the food bowls to prevent fouling the rotating lid.
2. Insert two pre-frozen ice packs and replace the food bowl, aligning '0' on the food bowl with '0' on the base unit. If alignment is difficult, press ADJ/SET and UP buttons together for 3 seconds.
3. Replace the feeder lid, ensuring the sprung clips click into position. Place the unit in its required position. The meal in bowl '1' will be served at the next programmed meal time.
4. Always turn the feeder off after use (see Section 9).

5. Especially for Cats

When leaving your cat unattended, ensure adequate toilet arrangements are made. Cats, and especially kittens, should not be left alone for long periods without periodic checks. Using a Closer Pets fountain for fresh water is also recommended.

6. Especially for Dogs

Most small dogs adapt well to automatic feeders. Supervise your dog's first few uses to ensure it does not damage the unit, which can be an issue with puppies. When leaving your dog unattended, ensure adequate toilet arrangements are made. Dogs, and especially puppies, should not be left alone for long periods without periodic checks. Using a Closer Pets fountain for fresh water is also recommended.

For extra stability: The feeder can be attached to a wooden baseplate. Remove the feeder lid and food bowl. Place the feeder on the desired position on the wooden board. Locate the moulded-in retaining clips (F, Fig. 1) and mark screw holes by inserting a suitable screw through each hole. Carefully break out the retaining clips by cutting the retaining webs with a sharp knife. Replace clips in holes with the flat side uppermost and screw to the board at marked positions. Turn clips to lock/unlock the feeder to the wooden base.

7. Hints on Food Storage

The C500 feeder is designed for all pet foods. Always use with ice packs unless the ambient temperature is below 5°C (40°F). Freeze ice packs for at least 6 hours before use. Spare ice packs are available from your dealer or at www.closerpets.com.

When using with wet food, ensure it comes from a freshly opened can/pack. In very warm weather, avoid leaving wet food for long periods; dry food may be preferable due to better keeping qualities. Consult the wet food manufacturer if in doubt.

8. Positioning of Feeder

The C500 feeder should be used indoors, in a garage, or an outbuilding. Place it in a cool corner, shaded from sunlight and away from moisture.

9. Turning the Feeder Off and On

To turn off the feeder and keep programmed settings, press and hold the UP and DOWN arrow buttons together until 'OFF' is displayed on the LCD. Repeat to turn it back on.

10. Changing the Batteries

When the low battery indicator flashes on the LCD, alkaline batteries need replacing.

IMPORTANT: To keep the clock and all meal settings, replace all batteries within 60 seconds. Do not press any buttons during battery replacement, as this will reset the unit. It is recommended to remove batteries if the feeder will not be used for prolonged periods.

11. Cleaning

The C500 feeder is easy to clean. The lid and bowl are dishwasher safe. The base unit can be wiped with a damp cloth. Never immerse the base unit in water.
