Centrometal EKO-CK P Boiler Technical Manual
Installation, Use, and Maintenance
Introduction and General Information
This technical manual provides comprehensive instructions for the installation, use, and maintenance of the Centrometal EKO-CK P combined boiler, designed for solid fuel, oil, and gas firing.
1.0. In General
The EKO-CK P boiler features a modern construction, high-quality materials, advanced welding technology, and is approved and tested according to the EN 303-5 norm. It meets all special requirements for central heating system connections.
1.1. Boiler Description
The EKO-CK P is a combined steel boiler with a large heating surface and low combustion chamber resistance. Its design allows firing with large solid fuel pieces. Welded steel turbulators ensure high boiler efficiency and low emissions of harmful components in flue gases. Cleaning is simple and can be performed from the front.
1.2. Delivery State
The boiler is delivered with its body covered by casing, thermal insulation, and cleaning accessories (holder, scraper, poker).
2.0. Mounting and Assembly
Mounting and assembly must be performed by a qualified person responsible for correct boiler operation. The boiler should be placed on a 50-100 mm high base in a safe, ventilated boiler room, protected from freezing. Positioning must allow for correct chimney connection and facilitate supervision during operation, cleaning, and maintenance.
3.0. Opening for Fresh Air Supply
Every boiler room requires a correctly calculated opening for fresh air inlet, proportional to the boiler's power output. This opening must be protected by a net or grate. The formula for calculating the opening surface (A in cm²) based on boiler power output (Q in kW) is: A = 6.02 * Q.

Mounting and Startup
9.3. Mounting of the Turbulators
For oil or gas firing, turbulators must be mounted in the flue gas pipes. This involves opening the upper boiler door, removing the upper lid (position 1), inserting the turbulators into the flue gas pipes until they reach the end, and then replacing the upper lid.
Figure 10. Mounting of turbulators: This figure visually demonstrates the process of inserting turbulators into flue gas pipes. It labels: 1 - Boiler EKO-CK P, 2 - Upper boiler door, 3 - Flue gas pipe, 4 - Turbulators, 5 - Upper lid.
Figure 11. Protective gloves
Protective gloves are obligatory for handling the boiler and during certain operations.
8.0. Start Up
Before startup, ensure protective gloves are worn. Verify the boiler and heating system are filled with water and properly air-vented. Check that safety elements are correctly mounted. Ensure the flue gas tube is properly sealed and thermally insulated. Confirm that combustion chamber lids are correctly placed: one in the cradle between the upper register and frame of the upper boiler door, another above the upper register, and a third protecting the upper boiler door, rotating to its limiter. The lower grill at the combustion chamber entrance must be in its cradle. Check if the flue gas opening lid is open or if the chimney is adequately sized.
Firing with Solid Fuel:
Set the draft regulator so the boiler temperature stays between 68°C and 85-90°C (with air opening fully closed). Check the system pump connection to the factory-mounted pump thermostat and its on/off functionality.
Firing with Oil or Gas Burner:
Ensure the boiler is connected to the electrical supply. Burner operation must be handled by a qualified service person. The burner requires proper adjustment (nozzle value, oil pressure, or gas flow) for rated thermal output. Verify the system pump connection to the factory-mounted pump thermostat and its operation based on adjusted temperature. Confirm turbulators are correctly placed in flue gas tubes (see Figure 10).
Figure 8. Moving parts of the boiler: This diagram shows key internal components like the grill, upper lid, and lower lid within the boiler's combustion area.
Figure 1. Installation of casing to boiler EKO-CK P: This figure details the steps for attaching the boiler casing. It involves fastening insulation supports with screws, fixing lateral sides onto girders, hooking up casing sides, and securing them with screws. It also shows inserting sensors for the thermometer and pump thermostat, positioning front and rear casing covers, and attaching the draught regulator protection.
Connections and Electrical Setup
4.0. Connection with the Chimney
A correctly calculated and insulated chimney is crucial for safe operation and efficiency. The chimney must be gas-impermeable, smooth, and have a cleaning door. Walled chimneys require a three-layer structure with at least 30 mm mineral wool insulation (50 mm for external walls). The inner diameter depends on chimney height and boiler output, as shown in Figure 3. Flue gas temperature at the exit should be at least 30°C higher than the condensation temperature. Consult a qualified person for chimney selection and mounting. The distance between the boiler and chimney should be between 300 mm and 600 mm. The flue gas tube must be inclined between 30-45° and mounted 10 mm deeper into the chimney to prevent condensation. The flue gas tube connection must be thermally insulated with 30-50 mm mineral wool.
Figure 2. Possible way for boiler connection EKO-CK P to the chimney: This diagram illustrates recommended boiler-to-chimney connections, showing thermal isolation and cleaning openings.
Figure 3. Chimney dimension for the boiler EKO-CK P: This graph plots useful chimney height against light chimney diameter for different boiler outputs and wood firing, guiding the selection of appropriate chimney dimensions.
5.0. Boiler Connection to the Heating Installation
The EKO-CK P boiler can be connected to closed or open heating systems and fired with solid fuel, oil, or gas. Installation must comply with technical norms by a certified professional.
6.0. Boiler Connection to Close Heating System
For closed heating systems (refer to Scheme 1 and 2), a certified safety valve set (2.5 bar) and an expansion vessel are mandatory. These must be installed according to regulations without any stop elements between them and the boiler. The system pump must be connected via the socket on the boiler's back side to the factory-mounted pump thermostat (set at 68°C). For systems with water accumulators (Scheme 1), room temperature regulation can be achieved using a 3-way manual mixing valve, radiator thermostatic valves, or a room thermostat. European EN norms mandate thermal safety protection for closed systems.
Scheme 1. Example of the boiler connection to the close heating system: This scheme shows a typical connection for a closed heating system, including the boiler, factory-connected pump thermostat, room thermostat, safety group, thermal protection, a 3-way manual mixing valve, and a water accumulator (CAS).
6.1. Thermal Safety Protection Mounting
European EN norms require thermal safety protection for closed heating systems. The boiler is designed for installing thermal protection, comprising two heat exchangers and two thermal valves (see Scheme 2). Failure to correctly mount this protection in case of overheating can invalidate the warranty. The thermal safety protection must be connected to the building's plumbing, not a pressure tank, to ensure adequate water supply during power failures.
Scheme 2. Description of the mounting procedure of the thermal safety protection for the boiler on the closed heating system: This diagram details the installation of thermal safety protection components, including heat exchangers and thermal valves, showing connections to city plumbing and sewerage.
6.2. Boiler Connection to Open Heating System
For open heating systems, it is recommended to use Scheme 3. An open expansion vessel should be installed above the highest heating body, and if located in an unheated room, it must be insulated. The system pump can be connected to the boiler's inline or back line. It must be mounted over the socket on the boiler's back side connected to the factory-mounted pump thermostat (68°C). Room temperature regulation in this setup is typically done with a 4-way manual mixing valve.
Scheme 3. Possible scheme for the boiler connection to the open heating system: This scheme illustrates an open heating system setup, showing the boiler, an open expansion vessel (OPC), a manual 4-way mixing valve, and the factory-mounted pump thermostat.
7.3. Electric Connection - Firing with Solid Fuel
The system pump connection for heating is made via the socket on the boiler's back side, connected to the pump thermostat. A 4-pole plug is included in the set.
Figure 5. Scheme for el. connection for firing with solid fuel: This diagram shows the electrical wiring for solid fuel firing, including the electrical supply, pump thermostat, system pump, and connections on the boiler's top cover.
7.4. Electric Connection - Firing with Oil or Gas
The EKO-CK P 70/90/110 boiler connects to the electrical supply via a terminal on the control panel. Refer to Figure 7 for the wiring scheme.

If operational disturbances persist, contact a qualified person.
Figure 4. Figure of the main boiler control panel: This figure shows the physical layout of the control panel with its numbered switches and indicators.
7.1. Firing with Solid Fuel
Accurate temperature regulation requires a draft regulator. The draft regulator chain should be set to maintain the boiler temperature between 68°C and 85-90°C. The system pump must be connected to the pump thermostat to prevent boiler cooling via the back line before reaching minimum temperature (see Scheme 3 for open systems, Scheme 1 for closed systems).
7.2. Firing with Oil or Gas
For oil or gas firing, an additional main control panel (safety thermostat, regulation thermostat) can be mounted on the boiler's top cover. The system pump connection is similar to solid fuel firing, preventing cooling before minimum temperature is reached. If the room thermostat controls the system pump, it must be connected to the pump thermostat.
9.0. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance and longevity.
9.1. Firing with Solid Fuel
Protective gloves are required. It is recommended to clean the surface under the grate, combustion chamber, and gas flow tubes daily. Gas flow tubes are cleaned via the upper boiler door after removing specific lids (Figure 9, positions 1 and 2). An access opening on the back of the boiler (page 3) also allows for cleaning after removing a cover. Ensure the cover is replaced, the lower grill is closed, and the primary air flow opening is checked before firing.
Figure 9. - Take of movable lids from combustion chamber: This diagram illustrates the removal of lids (1-6) from the combustion chamber for cleaning purposes.
9.2. Firing with Oil / Gas
Protective gloves are required. The boiler and burner should be thoroughly cleaned and inspected by an authorized service annually.
