Getting Started

Follow these steps to set up and begin using your Dyson V15 Detect.

Power Modes

Your machine has three power modes, selectable with a single button:

  • Eco mode: Provides maximum run time for longer cleans. Indicated by a full green battery icon.
  • Auto and Med mode: Offers an optimum balance of power and run time. Suction power automatically adapts to dust levels when a compatible cleaner head or the Hair screw tool is attached. Indicated by a blue battery icon.
  • Boost mode: Designed for intensive spot cleaning of ground-in dirt, offering the shortest battery life. Indicated by a red battery icon.

Connecting Components

To assemble the vacuum, connect the wand to the main body, ensuring the wand release button aligns with the top of the main body. Then, connect the cleaner head to the other end of the wand.

Laser Functionality

The laser on the Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head can be turned on or off using a slider switch located on the cleaner head itself. The laser is a Class 1 product, safe for users and pets, but direct eye exposure should be avoided.

Particle Detection

The machine features a piezo sensor that continuously sizes and counts microscopic dust particles at the inlet. When a compatible cleaner head or the Hair screw tool is attached and the machine is in Auto mode, suction power automatically increases when higher dust levels are detected. The LCD screen displays this particle count and a graph showing the size and quantity of dust particles detected.

The LCD Screen

The LCD screen provides information on particle count, cleaning mode, remaining run time, filter status, and blockages.

Settings Menu

Access the settings menu by pressing and holding the button until the menu screen appears. Tap the button to scroll through options:

  • Particle count and graph: Toggle the particle measuring and counting feature on/off. Turning it off stops automatic suction adjustment based on particle count, but the Digital Motorbar™ cleaner head will still adapt suction to floor types.
  • Adjust reactive suction power sensitivity: Change how sensitive the machine is to particle count, affecting automatic suction adjustments.
  • Change language: Scroll through the language list and press and hold the button until a green tick appears to confirm your selection. Cancelling is possible by releasing the button during the countdown.
  • Change alert settings: Turn the motor pulse alert off. Alerts for runtime will still display, but motor pulsing for alerts will cease, except for blockage alerts which are designed to prevent damage.

Run Time and Alerts

When the battery is low, the machine will pulse three times, and a low run time icon will appear. An empty battery is indicated by a red warning icon. When particle count is active, low run time is shown in amber, and red in Boost mode.

Alerts may include:

  • Filter: Indicates the filter is not fitted correctly or needs cleaning.
  • Blockage: Signals a blockage that needs removal.
  • Filter needs cleaning: Prompts for filter maintenance.
  • Airways blocked: Indicates a blockage in the air path.

To exit the settings menu, select the 'Exit menu' option.

Charging Your Machine

It is important to fully charge your machine before first use and after each clean. This allows the battery monitoring system's algorithm to learn and accurately display remaining run time. Charge the battery by connecting it directly to the charger or via the wall dock. Blue LEDs on the battery will flash during charging and remain lit for 5 seconds when fully charged (displaying 100%). The machine will not operate or charge if the ambient temperature is below 5°C (41°F) to protect the motor and battery.

Changing Your Click-in Battery

To remove the battery, push the battery release button on the handle and slide the battery off. To refit, align the battery with the handle and slide it in until it clicks. Alternating between multiple click-in batteries is recommended for maintaining performance.

Caring for Your Floors

Before vacuuming, check that the underside of the cleaner head or tool is clean and free from objects. Always consult your flooring manufacturer's cleaning instructions. Be aware that the brush bar can damage certain carpet types; if fuzzing occurs, consider vacuuming without the motorised floor tool.

Emptying Your Bin

Empty the bin as soon as the dirt reaches the MAX level to maintain performance and prevent inaccurate particle graph readings. To empty:

  1. Remove the wand by pressing the red wand release button on top of the wand and pulling it away from the bin.
  2. Hold the machine over your bin, pointing downwards. Firmly push the red bin release button; the bin will slide down, cleaning the shroud, and the bin base will open. Ensure the button is fully pushed.
  3. To minimize dust contact, cover the bin tightly in a dust-proof bag while emptying. Seal the bag and dispose of it.
  4. Close the bin by pushing the bin base upwards until the bin and bin base click into place.

Cleaning Your Bin

If necessary, empty the bin first. Release the bin by pressing the red button located on the bin runner and sliding the bin off. Clean the bin only with a damp cloth, ensuring it and its seals are completely dry before refitting. Refit the bin by inserting its spine onto the bin runner and pushing the bin base upwards until it clicks. Do not use detergents, polishes, air fresheners, or place the bin in a dishwasher, as this may cause damage.

Clearing Blockages

Disconnect the machine from the charger before checking for blockages. Avoid touching the trigger and be aware of sharp objects. Allow the machine to cool down if necessary. If a blockage is detected, the motor will pulse, preventing operation until cleared.

  • Check the main body: With the bin removed, inspect the air inlet, located on the right-hand side below where the bin joins the main body.
  • Check the wand: Remove the wand and check for blockages at both ends.
  • Check the cleaner head: Inspect the cleaner head for obstructions, following instructions to remove the brush bar if needed.

Ensure all blockages are cleared and parts are refitted securely before use. Clearing blockages is not covered by the guarantee.

Washing Your Filter

Wash your filter at least once a month to maintain optimum suction power. Ensure the filter is completely dry (at least 24 hours in a well-ventilated area) before reinserting it, as a damp filter can damage the machine. Do not dry the filter in a tumble dryer, microwave, or near a naked flame.

  1. Twist off your filter: Twist the filter anti-clockwise and pull it away from the machine. The filter is located at the rear.
  2. Tap your filter: Gently tap the filter over a bin to remove loose dust.
  3. Wash your filter: Wash with warm, running tap water, gently rubbing with your fingers.
  4. Fill and shake: Place your hand over one end, fill with warm tap water, cover the other end, and shake firmly to dislodge dirt.
  5. Shake out the water: Empty the filter and shake firmly to remove excess water.
  6. Dry your filter: Leave to dry completely for at least 24 hours in a warm, well-ventilated place, with the pleated filter end facing upwards.

Washing Your Laser Slim Fluffy™ Brush Bar

The brush bar in the Laser Slim Fluffy™ cleaner head is washable. To maintain performance, check and wash it regularly. Ensure the machine is disconnected from the charger and avoid touching the trigger.

  1. Remove your brush bar: Press the cleaner head release button on the end of the wand. Place the cleaner head upside down. Push the end cap fully up and pull the brush bar out. Do not wash the end cap.
  2. Wash and dry your brush bar: Hold the brush bar under running water and gently rub to remove lint or dirt. Stand the brush bar upright, with the closed end facing upwards, and leave it to dry completely for at least 24 hours.
  3. Replace your brush bar: Ensure the brush bar is completely dry. Reattach the end cap and slide the brush bar back into the cleaner head. Push the end cap back down to the closed position. The end cap requires a specific angle (less than 90°) to close properly.

Cleaning the Laser Lens

To maintain optimum performance, keep the laser lens clean. Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to wipe the lens only when the cleaner head is detached from the machine.

Clearing Obstructions from Your Digital Motorbar™ Cleaner Head with Anti-Tangle Comb

This cleaner head does not have a washable brush bar. Regularly check and clear any obstructions.

  1. Remove your brush bar: Press the cleaner head release button on the wand. Place the cleaner head upside down. Use a coin to unlock the end cap by twisting it 90°. Remove the end cap and slide the brush bar out. Do not wash the end cap.
  2. Look for obstructions: Clear any debris from the brush bar and inside the cleaner head. Remove hair or fibres wrapped around the brush bar.
  3. Replace your brush bar: Push the end cap back onto the brush bar and slide it back into the cleaner head. Turn the end cap into the locked position.

The cleaner head and brush bar are not washable; wipe them with a damp, lint-free cloth. Do not use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners.

Cleaning Your Tools

Do not put any part of your machine's tools in a dishwasher or use detergents, polishes, or air fresheners. Wipe them with a damp, lint-free cloth, taking care not to touch the connector end. Ensure all tools are completely dry before use.

Clearing Blockages from Your Hair Screw Tool

The Hair screw tool's brush bar is not washable. Regularly check and clear obstructions.

Ensure the machine is disconnected from the charger and avoid touching the trigger.

  1. Remove the cover and brush bar: Remove the Hair screw tool from the wand or machine. Push the base plate open. Press the red lever down to release the cleaner head cover, then pull the cover off. Pull the brush bar firmly from the main body.
  2. Look for obstructions: Check and remove any obstructions from all three parts of the Hair screw tool.
  3. Re-assemble Hair screw tool: Slide the housing back onto the brush bar. Push the red locking lever upwards to lock. Put your brush bar back into position and press firmly until it clicks. Align the cleaner head cover with the guide on the main body and push it down until it clicks. Push the red locking lever up until it clicks and push the base plate back into place.

The Hair screw tool is not washable; wipe it with a damp, lint-free cloth.
