Understanding LED Light Therapy

LED light therapy offers numerous benefits, from relieving minor aches and pains to improving skin quality through collagen production and easing side effects of traumatic brain injuries.

What Exactly is Light Therapy?

Light therapy is an ancient healing modality with roots in Egyptian, Greek, Chinese, and Indian practices. The body requires light for health, and clinical studies are establishing the biological effects of different light wavelengths on cells, identifying treatable conditions, and determining optimal absorption conditions.

Light exists on a spectrum. Red and infrared light within the 650-850 nanometer (nm) range are particularly beneficial and termed the "therapeutic window." These wavelengths are bioactive, meaning they have a biological effect on the body, similar to antibiotics or vitamins, influencing cellular function.

Red light, with wavelengths between 620-700 nm, offers rejuvenating and balancing outcomes for various health conditions. Visible red light, especially within the 630-680 nm range, penetrates the skin effectively.

Sunlight contains red light, contributing to a sense of well-being. PlatinumLED devices harness these regenerative red light wavelengths without the harmful UVA and UVB rays associated with skin cancer and premature aging.

LED light therapy is the science of using red and infrared light wavelengths to treat health conditions and promote overall well-being. How LED Light Therapy Works

During an LED light therapy session, chromophores in cellular mitochondria absorb red and infrared light photons, converting them into energy. Mitochondria produce ATP, the cell's energy currency, and enhance oxygen consumption. This process is akin to photosynthesis, where plants convert sunlight into energy.

Assembling Your Therapy Light

Hanging Your Light

1. Get Ready: Lay out your PlatinumLED light and all hardware on a padded surface. Refer to page 24 for a list of included parts.
2. Attach Hanging Hardware: Screw the threaded posts into the top of your light. Attach the cable supports to the threaded posts. (For connecting multiple units, see page 34).
3. Attach Door Hook(s): Hang the door hook on the top of any standard-sized door.
4. Connect Hanging Cables: Connect cable supports to the snap-link. Attach the other end of the cable assembly to the door hook. Use the snap link and cable gripper to adjust the light's height.

Hanging Your Light (cont.)

1. Adjust Light Height: To raise the light, pull the height adjustment cable while supporting the light. To lower it, press the cable box lever. Support the light during adjustment to prevent damage or injury.
2. Connect Power Cables: Plug the power cord into the light's female socket, then into a wall socket.

Powering On Your BIO Series Light

BIO Series lights have two red power switches, each controlling 50% of the LEDs.

• All Red or All NIR BIO Series Lights: Turn both power switches to 'On' to fully power the light.
• Combo Red/NIR BIO Series Lights: One switch controls Red LEDs, the other controls NIR LEDs. Red LEDs glow bright red; NIR LEDs are invisible. To use both, turn both switches 'On'. To use only one type, turn off the switch for the wavelength you do not wish to use.

Powering On Your BIOMAX Light

1. BIOMAX Series Lights: Ensure the black pairing switch is set to 'Lead' mode. Flip the red power switch to 'On'. (For connecting multiple BIOMAX lights, see page 34).
2. BIOMAX Series Lights: The BIOMAX digital screen will illuminate, displaying the PlatinumLED logo and then the operating menu.

Using the Control Panel (BIOMAX Only)

1. Setting Treatment Time: Press 'MENU' to highlight the time function. Use '+' or '-' buttons to set the desired treatment time.
2. Setting Light Mode: The default mode uses both red and infrared light. To change modes (red only, NIR only), press 'MENU' to highlight the light mode. Use '+' to select/deselect wavelengths. A checkmark indicates selection. Indicator lights below the control buttons show the active wavelength mode.

Beginning Your Treatment

• Starting & Pausing Treatment: Press 'OK' to start the session. The lights will turn on, and the timer will count down. Press 'OK' again to pause or resume. (Note: Near-infrared light is invisible; you may not see light in NIR-only mode).
• Cooling Down: After each session, cooling fans run for up to 5 minutes to ensure proper LED cooling.

Additional Treatment Tips

• Session Duration & Frequency: For optimal cellular benefit, including deep tissue treatment, use 10-20 minute sessions per treatment area, 6"-12" from the device. Limit to two to three areas per day. Adjust time and distance based on individual response.
• Eye Protection: While not mandatory, direct viewing of LEDs can be uncomfortable. Included sunglasses are provided for comfort.
• Clothing: Ensure the treatment area is fully exposed to light. Cover areas not being treated if preferred.
• Effects: Expect gentle warmth during and after treatment. Consistent use may lead to muscle relaxation, reduced stiffness and inflammation, and pain relief. Discontinue use or increase distance if discomfort or sensitivity occurs.

Connecting Multiple BIOMAX Light Units

1. Select a "Lead" Unit: Designate one light unit as the "lead unit" for connecting additional units.
2. Connecting Units Vertically: Hang the lead unit on a door hook. Align the second unit's threaded posts with the upper device's holes. Slide and push to lock into place.
3. Connecting Cables: Connect the power cable to the lead unit and plug into a wall socket (keep the main power switch off). Connect the lead unit to the follow unit using the patch cable. Connect units with the digital cable. Turn both main power switches ON.
4. Pairing your Units: On the back of each device, flip the lead unit's switch to "Lead Mode." Flip the switches on other units to "Follow mode."
5. Setting the Control Panel: Use the control panel on the lead device to set the treatment mode and time for all connected units. Refer to page 31 for detailed instructions.

Troubleshooting

• LEDs Not Working: NIR LEDs are invisible. Ensure power cords are fully inserted and try an alternate outlet. For BIOMAX, check the main power switch and fuse.
• Panel Not Lighting Up: Verify power cord connection and outlet. Check the BIOMAX main power switch and fuse. Ensure digital connection cables are properly plugged in and switches are set to 'Lead'/'Follow' mode.
• Half LEDs On (BIOMAX): Confirm both red and NIR arrays have checkmarks in the menu and indicator lights are illuminated. Try power cycling the unit.

PlatinumLED offers a 3-year warranty covering malfunctions. Each claim is assessed individually for repair or replacement.

1. Returns: Customers are responsible for return shipping costs. International shipping charges are non-refundable. Products must be in original packaging with all accessories. Refunds are processed after inspection. A 20% restocking fee applies to elective returns. Damaged or unsellable items will be refused/returned.
2. Warranty Resolution: Claims may include part shipment, phone/email support, or replacement with new/refurbished units. Warranty is void if the product is damaged by the customer (dropping, misuse, unauthorized modification).
3. Refused Shipments: Shipments refused by the recipient or undeliverable due to incorrect address will incur a $50 fee for shipping, warehousing, and receiving.
