Introduction
This document provides essential information for the installation and operation of the MidNite Solar PV Rapid Shutdown System (PVRSS) and associated equipment, including the MNSSR receivers and MNSST transmitters. The system is designed to meet the requirements of NEC 2017 Article 690.12 for rapid shutdown, ensuring enhanced safety for solar installations.
The MidNite Solar Rapid Shutdown system offers a convenient and economical solution for module-level shutdown, crucial for emergency responder safety. It is compatible with various inverters and designed for reliable performance in solar energy systems.
Key Components and Functionality
The system comprises transmitters and receivers. The transmitter generates a signal that is inductively coupled into the PV array, which is then detected by the receivers. Upon receiving a valid signal, the receivers connect the module to the inverter. In the absence of a valid signal, or when power is removed from the transmitter, the receivers automatically disconnect the string, initiating rapid shutdown.
The MNSSR receivers are designed to attenuate the array as part of a rapid shutdown system and are compatible with all SunSpec compatible transmitters. The MNSST transmitters, available in single, dual, or naked configurations, can be installed in or near the inverter, or as an option on specific MidNite Solar charge controllers.
Safety Precautions
Important Safety Instructions are provided to ensure safe installation and operation. Working with lead-acid batteries and high voltage DC systems requires extreme caution. Always disconnect all power sources before performing any maintenance or service. Refer to the detailed safety guidelines within the document for specific precautions regarding battery handling, electrical hazards, and proper wiring practices.
