Safety Precautions
WARNING: To reduce the risk of fire, electric shock, or injury to persons, follow basic precautions, including:
- Read all instructions before using the washer.
- Do not wash articles that have been previously cleaned, washed, soaked, or spotted with gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances, as they give off vapors that could ignite or cause an explosion.
- Do not add gasoline, dry-cleaning solvents, or other flammable or explosive substances to the wash water. These substances give off vapors that could ignite or cause an explosion.
- In certain conditions, hydrogen gas may be generated in a hot water system that has not been used for two weeks or more. Hydrogen gas is explosive. If the hot water system has not been used for such a period, before using the washing machine, turn on all hot water faucets and let the water run for several minutes. This will release any accumulated hydrogen gas. Due to the flammability of this gas, do not smoke or use an open flame during this time.
- This appliance is not intended for use by persons (including children) with reduced physical, sensory, or mental capabilities, or lack of experience and knowledge, unless they have been given supervision or instruction concerning use of the appliance by a person responsible for their safety.
- Do not clean your washer with flammable substances or liquids.
- Children should be supervised to ensure they do not play with the appliance.
- Do not allow children to play on or inside the washer. Close supervision is necessary when the washer is used near them.
- Before the washer is discarded or taken out of service, remove the door or lid.
- Do not put hands into the washer if the drum, tub, or agitator is operating.
- Do not install or store this washer where it may be exposed to the elements.
- Do not attempt to force controls.
- Do not repair or replace any part of the washer or attempt any service function unless specifically recommended in this User and Care Manual or in published user repair instructions that you understand and have the necessary skill to perform.
- For grounding requirements, refer to the "Electrical Requirements" in the installation instructions.
- If the power cord is damaged, it must be replaced by the manufacturer, its service agent, or similarly qualified personnel to avoid danger.
- Use the new hoses supplied with the appliance; old hoses should not be reused to prevent danger.
SAVE THESE INSTRUCTIONS
What's New Under the Lid?
Your new washer will operate differently than your old agitator washer.
Maximizing Wash Efficiency
Maximum wash efficiency is achieved with the lid closed. Once the clothes, detergent, and additives are loaded, close the lid and start your wash cycle.
Leaving the lid open after the cycle has started will modify the programmed phase filling. If the lid is left open at the end of the filling phase, the washer will signal this with intermittently flashing wash stage lights, indicating that the lid needs to be closed. If the lid is not closed within 10 minutes, the cycle will be canceled, and the collected water will drain automatically.
Understanding Your Washer's Filling Phases
These phases do not apply to all cycles. Refer to the "Cycle Guide."
- Phase 1: Automatic Prelinse with Agitation: The washer will fill to a relatively low level and begin agitation to maximize wash action. This process aids in effective cleaning.
- Phase 2: Stain Removal: The washer refills to a second level and continues agitation. This helps in removing stains from your clothes.
- Phase 3: Deep Wash: The washer stops agitation and fills to the selected level. This process helps settle the clothes and prevent tangling, preparing them for the deep wash agitation.
Filling phases will vary depending on the selected load size.
Control Panel and Features
1. Wash Cycle Dial: Use the wash cycle dial to select from the available cycles on your washer.
- Automatic Cycles: Allow your clothes to go through an automatic process including washing, rinsing, and spinning. Choose the most suitable cycle for the type of clothes you are washing.
- Manual Cycles: Allow you to wash your clothes by controlling each wash stage manually.
2. Load Size: The washer's Intelicarga® system allows you to precisely adjust the load size for the clothes you are washing.
3. Temperature: Select a wash temperature based on the fabric type and soil level. For best results and following garment care label instructions, use the hottest wash water the fabrics can withstand. All rinses use cold water.
4. Soil Level: The soil level (wash time) is predetermined for each wash cycle. For more soiled clothes, select the "Intense" soil level. For less soiled clothes, select the "Light" soil level.
5. Spin Speed: This washer automatically selects the spin speed based on the selected cycle. The spin speed can be modified. Not all spin speeds are available on all cycles.
6. Alarm: Selecting the "Rinse" alarm will indicate when the rinse fill stage is reached and the lid has been unlocked. When your washer has filled to the desired water level, you can add fabric softener. Selecting the "End of Cycle" alarm will signal when your cycle is complete. You can select either or both alarms.
7. Start/Pause Button: Press to start the selected cycle; press again to pause the cycle and unlock the lid during the drain and spin phases. NOTE: If the washer is draining or spinning, it may take several minutes for the lid to unlock.
8. Wash Stage Indicator Lights: These lights show the progress of the cycle. In each stage, you may notice different sounds or pauses than on traditional washers. When the Start/Pause button is pressed, the washer will begin to fill with water. NOTE: Maximum washer performance is achieved when the lid is kept closed. The washer will move the load slightly, then pause to allow water to soak the load, and then continue adding water. This process may repeat until the correct amount of water has been added to the drum.
- Soak: The washer will begin the soak stage once it reaches the selected fill level. Soaking helps remove tough stains.
- Wash: Washing with a low water level provides concentrated cleaning. Instead of diluting detergent as in a traditional agitator washer, this washer applies detergent directly to the soiled clothes. Motor sounds may change during different cycle stages.
- Rinse: You will hear sounds similar to the wash cycle as the washer rinses and moves the load.
- Drain/Spin: The washer spins the load to dry or remove moisture from the clothes.
- Ready: Once the cycle is complete, this light will illuminate. Remove clothes from the washer for best results.
- Lid: This light indicates that the lid is locked and cannot be opened. If you need to open the lid, press Start/Pause. You can open the lid until the Lid Lock light turns off. Close the lid. Press Start/Pause again to continue the cycle. NOTE: If the washer is draining or spinning, it may take several minutes for the lid to unlock.
9. Manual Wash Stage Selection: With this option, you can select a manual cycle (one or more stages of the automatic cycle you have selected) or even add a soak to your selected wash cycle.
- To Add Soak to an Automatic Cycle: Turn the dial to the desired automatic cycle. Press the "Wash Stage Selection" button once. Select the desired options. The "Soak" light will illuminate. Press Start/Pause to begin your cycle.
- To Select a Manual Cycle: Turn the dial to the desired automatic cycle. Press the "Wash Stage Selection" button until the desired wash stage(s) are displayed. You can choose from the available manual cycles: Soak, Wash, Rinse - Drain/Spin, Drain/Spin.

WARNING: Fire Hazard
Never place items in the washer that are damp with gasoline or any other flammable liquid. No washer can completely remove oil. Do not dry any item that has ever had any type of oil on it (including cooking oils). Failure to follow these instructions could result in death, explosion, or fire.
WARNING: Electric Shock Hazard
Connect to a grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Do not remove the ground prong. Do not use an adapter. Do not use an extension cord. Failure to follow these instructions could result in death, fire, or electric shock.
Useful Tips:
- When washing water-resistant items, distribute them evenly around the basket.
- Use mesh bags for garments to help prevent tangling when washing delicate or small items.
- Turn knit garments inside out to prevent pilling. Separate items that shed lint from those that attract lint. Synthetic fabrics, knits, and corduroy will attract lint from towels, rugs, and terry cloth.
NOTE: Always read and follow the fabric care label instructions to avoid damaging your clothes.
1. Sort and Prepare Your Clothes
- Empty pockets. Coins, buttons, or any loose small objects can get under the wash plate and cause unexpected noises.
- Separate items according to the recommended cycle, water temperature, and colorfastness.
- Separate heavily soiled items from lightly soiled items.
- Separate delicate items from sturdy fabrics.
- Do not dry items that still have stains after washing, as heat can set the stains permanently.
- Treat stains immediately.
- Close zippers, fasten hooks, tie drawstrings and sashes, and remove non-washable trims and ornaments.
- Mend rips and tears to prevent further damage to items during washing.
- DO NOT, UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCES, INTRODUCE WATERPROOF PRODUCTS.
2. Add Detergent
Liquid Detergent: Add liquid detergent to the bottom of the drum before adding clothes.
Powder Detergent: Add one scoop of powder detergent to the detergent dispenser. If using a laundry booster, such as Oxi or non-chlorine bleach, add it to the dispenser as well.
IMPORTANT: Follow the manufacturer's instructions to determine the amount of detergent to use.
3. Add Fabric Softener
Pour one measure of liquid fabric softener into the dispenser, always following the manufacturer's instructions for the correct amount of fabric softener based on load size. Close the dispenser drawer.
IMPORTANT: Do not overfill or dilute. Overfilling the dispenser may cause the fabric softener to dispense into the washer immediately. It is normal for a small amount to remain in the dispenser at the end of the cycle.
To Add Softener Manually: During the final rinse, wait until the washer has finished filling. Lift the lid and add the recommended amount of liquid softener diluted in 1/2 to 1 cup (125 ml to 260 ml) of warm water. Do not pour softener directly onto clothes and avoid splashing the clothes in the basket. Do not use more than the recommended amount. Close the lid to continue the cycle.
IMPORTANT: If the lid is left open for more than 10 minutes, the washer will drain and the cycle will be canceled.
4. Add Liquid Bleach with Chlorine to the Dispenser
Do not overfill, dilute, or use more than 1 cup (250 ml). Do not use non-chlorine bleach or Oxi products in the same cycle with liquid chlorine bleach.
5. Load Clothes into the Washer
Load clothes evenly in loose piles around the side of the basket. For best results, do not pack the clothes tightly. Do not wrap large items like sheets around the wash plate; pile them loosely around the side of the basket. Try mixing items of different sizes to reduce tangling.
IMPORTANT: Do not load the washer tightly or force items into it. For better cleaning and to reduce wrinkles and tangling, items should move freely.
6. Select a Cycle
Turn the cycle dial to choose your automatic wash cycle. For more information, see "Cycle Guide."
7. Select Load Size
Select the load size setting that best suits your load. Refer to the load size indicator on the basket. The CH setting will add less water for small loads. The XG setting will add more water for large or bulky loads. Items should move freely in the basket.
8. Select Cycle Options
Once you have selected a cycle, the predetermined options for that cycle will illuminate. Press the buttons to change cycle options: temperature, soil level, spin speed, and alarm, if desired.
NOTE: Always read and follow the fabric care label instructions to avoid damaging your clothes.
Wash Temperature | Suggested Fabrics |
---|---|
Hot | White and pastel colored clothes, durable fabrics, heavily soiled |
Warm | Bright colors, moderately to lightly soiled |
Cold | Dark colors that bleed or fade, lightly soiled |
9. Close the Lid
Close the lid for maximum wash efficiency.
IMPORTANT: If you leave the lid open after filling is complete, the washer will signal this with intermittently flashing wash stage lights, indicating that the lid needs to be closed. If the lid is not closed within 10 minutes, the cycle will be canceled, and the collected water will drain automatically.
10. Press Start/Pause to Begin the Wash Cycle
Press the Start/Pause button to begin the wash cycle. When the cycle is complete, the Ready light will illuminate.
NOTE: If you need to select a manual cycle, follow the instructions described in "MANUAL WASH STAGE SELECTION." Remove clothes immediately after the cycle is finished to prevent odors, reduce wrinkling, and prevent rust on metal hooks, zippers, and snaps.
How to Unlock the Lid to Add Clothes:
If you need to open the lid or add 1 or 2 forgotten items: Press Start/Pause, add the items, close the lid, and press Start/Pause again to continue the cycle.
How to Unlock the Lid During Drain/Spin Phase:
Press Start/Pause. The lid will unlock once the washer has stopped moving. This may take several minutes if the load was spinning at high speed. Then close the lid and press Start/Pause again to continue the cycle. If the lid is left open for more than 10 minutes, the water will drain automatically.
Washer Maintenance
Water Inlet Hoses
Replace inlet hoses every 5 years of use to reduce the risk of failure. Inspect periodically and replace hoses if bulges, kinks, cuts, wear, or water leaks are found. When replacing your water inlet hoses, note the replacement date on the label with a permanent marker.
Cleaning the Washer
Keep your washer as clean and fresh as you keep your clothes. To keep the washer interior odor-free, follow the recommended cleaning procedure each month:
- Ensure the washer is empty.
- Add one AFFRESH® washer cleaner tablet to the washer basket.
- OR Add 1 cup (250 ml) of liquid chlorine bleach to the appropriate dispenser.
IMPORTANT: Do not add detergent. Do not use more than the recommended amount of bleach to avoid damaging the product over time.
- Close the washer lid.
- Select the White cycle, Hot temperature, and XG load size.
- Press Start/Pause to begin the cycle.
NOTE: For best results, do not interrupt the cycle. If you must interrupt the cycle, follow the steps for "How to Unlock the Lid." Press and hold the Start/Pause button for 4 to 6 seconds to cancel the cycle, or press Start/Pause, turn the cycle dial to Off, and leave it for 3 seconds.
Cleaning the Washer (cont.)
Cleaning the Liquid Fabric Softener Dispenser
- Remove the dispenser by gripping the top with your hands and squeezing, while pulling upward with your thumbs.
- Rinse the dispenser under a stream of warm water and then replace it.
NOTE: To avoid damaging the washer or clothes, do not wash clothes without the liquid fabric softener dispenser in place.
Cleaning the Bleach Dispenser
Clean the inside of the bleach dispenser with a clean, damp cloth.
To Clean the Exterior:
- Use a soft, damp cloth or sponge to clean any spills.
- Use an all-purpose cleaner for surfaces, if necessary.
IMPORTANT: To avoid damaging the washer's finish, do not use abrasive cleaners.
Care During Absence and Vacations
Run your washer only when you are home. If you are moving or will not be using the washer for a period of time, follow these steps:
- Unplug the washer or disconnect the power supply to it.
- Close the water supply to the washer to prevent flooding due to water pressure increases.
Care for Winter Storage
IMPORTANT: To prevent damage, install and store the washer in a place where it will not freeze. Since a small amount of water remains in the hoses, freezing could damage the washer. If you will be storing or moving your washer during harsh winter weather, prepare it for winter.
To Prepare the Washer for Winter:
- Close both water supply valves; disconnect and drain the water from the inlet hoses.
- Pour 1 liter of RV antifreeze into the basket and run the washer on a Rinse/Spin cycle for about 30 seconds to mix the antifreeze with the remaining water.
- Unplug the washer or disconnect the power supply.
Transporting the Washer
- Close both water faucets. Disconnect and drain water from the inlet hoses.
- If the washer will be transported during a harsh winter season, follow the instructions in "Care for Winter Storage."
- Disconnect the drain hose from the drain system and drain any remaining water into a pan or bucket. Disconnect the drain hose from the back of the washer.
- Unplug the power cord.
- Place the inlet hoses and the drain hose inside the washer basket.
- Run the power cord over the edge and place it inside the basket.
- Place the original shipping materials packing tray back inside the washer. If you do not have the packing tray, place blankets or heavy towels in the basket opening. Close the lid and tape it shut across the front of the washer. Keep the lid taped shut until the washer is placed in its new location.
Reinstalling or Using the Washer Again
To reinstall the washer after a period of non-use, vacation, winter storage, or moving:
- Refer to the installation instructions to locate, level, and connect the washer.
- Before using the washer again, run it following the recommended procedure:
To Use the Washer Again:
- Let water run through the pipes and hoses. Reconnect the inlet hoses. Open both water faucets.
WARNING: Electric Shock Hazard
Connect to a grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Do not remove the ground prong. Do not use an adapter. Do not use an extension cord. Failure to follow these instructions could result in death, fire, or electric shock.
- Plug in the washer or reconnect the power supply.
- Run the washer on the Color Cycle to clean it and remove any antifreeze, if used. Use half the amount of detergent recommended by the manufacturer for a medium load size.
Troubleshooting
Vibration or Imbalance
- Possible Cause: The front and rear feet may not be making contact with the floor and are not secure. The washer may not be level. The load may be unbalanced.
- Solution: The front and rear feet must make firm contact with the floor, and the washer must be level for proper operation. Check if the floor is uneven or soft. Placing a 3/4" (19 mm) piece of wood under the washer may reduce noise. Refer to "Leveling the Washer" in the installation instructions. Load items evenly in loose piles around the basket. Adding wet items or more water to the basket may cause an imbalance. Wash smaller loads to reduce imbalance. Do not pack tightly. Avoid washing a single item. Refer to "Cycle Guide" and "Using Your Washer" in this User and Care Manual.
Noises
- Possible Cause: Objects trapped in the washer's drain system. The washer may be draining. The detection light is on.
- Solution: Empty pockets before washing. Loose items like coins could fall between the basket and tub or block the pump. Service may be required to remove items. It is normal to hear metal items on garments, such as snaps, buckles, or zippers, when they touch the basket. It is normal to hear the pump making a continuous humming sound, with periodic or sudden gurgling, as the last of the water is expelled during the Drain and Spin cycles. You may hear the sound of the spin detection after the washer has started. This is normal.
Water Leaks
- Possible Cause: The washer is not level. The fill hoses are not securely attached. The drain hose connection.
- Solution: Water may splash from the basket if the washer is not level. Check that the load is not unbalanced or packed too tightly. Tighten the fill hose connection. Ensure the four flat washers for the fill hoses are properly in place. Pull the drain hose from the washer housing and secure it properly to the standpipe or laundry tub. Do not use adhesive tape on the drainpipe. Check house plumbing for leaks or if the sink or drain is clogged. It is possible that water is leaking from a clogged laundry tub or drainpipe. Check all house plumbing for water leaks (laundry tubs, drainpipes, water pipes, and faucets). Improper loading can cause the basket to become misaligned and splash water out of the tub. Refer to "Using Your Washer" for loading instructions.
Washer Does Not Function or Fill
- Possible Cause: Not enough water in the washer. The load is not completely covered with water. The washer does not function or fill, the washer stops, or the wash light remains on (indicating the washer did not fill properly).
- Solution: It is normal for some of the load to be above the water level. The washer adds the correct amount of water for optimal cleaning. Both hoses must be secured and have water flow to the fill valve. Hot and cold water faucets must be open. Check that the inlet valve filters are not clogged. Check for kinks in the inlet hoses, which can restrict water flow. Connect the power cord to a grounded 3-prong wall outlet. Do not use an extension cord. Ensure there is power at the outlet. Reset the circuit breaker if it has tripped. Replace blown fuses. NOTE: If problems continue, contact an electrician. The lid must be closed for the washer to operate. The washer will pause during certain cycle phases. Do not interrupt the cycle. You may hear the spin sound. This is normal. Remove several items, redistribute the load evenly in the basket, and close the lid to continue the cycle. Do not add more than 1 or 2 additional items after the cycle has begun, to avoid overloading or unbalancing the washer. Foam produced by common detergents can slow down or stop the washer. Always measure detergent and follow its instructions according to load requirements. To remove foam, cancel the cycle. Select Rinse/Spin and press Start/Pause. Do not add more detergent.
Washer Does Not Drain/Spin
- Possible Cause: Small items trapped in the pump or between the basket and tub, which can slow drainage. The cycle used is not suitable for the load. The washer may be tightly packed or unbalanced. The drain hose is not installed correctly. The drain hose is extended more than 11 cm into the standpipe. Too much detergent, causing excessive foam that slows or stops draining and spinning. High spin speeds remove more moisture than traditional top-load washers. Incorrect or wrong wash/rinse temperatures. The load is not rinsed.
- Solution: Empty pockets before placing clothes in the washer. Use garment bags for small items. Use the recommended cycle for the garment. To remove excess water from the load, select Spin. Redistribute the load to allow for even distribution in the basket. If the drain hose is not installed correctly, use the drain hose guide and secure it to the standpipe or laundry tub. Do not place adhesive tape over the drain opening. Lower the drain hose if the end is more than 1.2 m above the floor. Remove any obstructions from the drain hose. Always measure detergent and follow its instructions for your load. To remove excess foam, select Rinse/Spin. Do not add detergent. Use a cycle with a hotter wash temperature for better cleaning. Use the White cycle for intense cleaning. Consult the "Cycle Guide" to choose the best one for your load. It is possible that foam caused by excess detergent prevents the washer from operating correctly. Always measure detergent and follow its instructions according to load size and soil level. Ensure the hot and cold water hoses are not reversed. Both hoses should be secured to the washer and faucet, and have hot and cold water flow to the inlet valve. Check that the inlet valve filters are not clogged. Straighten any kinks in the hoses. This washer is designed to use colder water temperatures for rinses than traditional top-load washers. This includes washes with less warm or hot water. Ensure the hot and cold water hoses are not reversed. Both hoses should be secured to the washer and faucet, and have hot and cold water flow to the inlet valve. Faucets should be open for hot and cold water. Inlet valve filters may be clogged. Straighten any kinks in the inlet hose. It is possible that foam caused by excess detergent prevents the washer from operating correctly. Always measure detergent and follow its instructions according to load size and soil level.
Washer Does Not Clean Stains
- Possible Cause: Not using dispensers. Not washing similar colors together. Obstructed dispenser. Sharp objects in pockets during washing. Laces and sashes may have become tangled. Items may have been damaged before washing. If the load is too tight, fabrics may be damaged. Liquid chlorine bleach may have been added incorrectly. Garment care label instructions were not followed. Monthly maintenance was not performed as recommended. Too much detergent is being used.
- Solution: Use dispensers to prevent chlorine bleach and fabric softener from staining clothes. Load dispensers before starting a cycle. Do not add products directly onto the load. Wash similar colors together and remove the load immediately after the cycle ends to prevent color transfer. Use only liquid chlorine bleach in the bleach dispenser. Use only fabric softener in the fabric softener dispenser. Empty pockets, close zippers, snaps, and hooks before washing to prevent snagging and tearing. Tie all laces and sashes before starting to wash the load. Mend rips and tears before washing. Load items evenly in loose piles around the basket. Load only dry items. Use the cycle designed for the fabrics being washed. Add only 1 or 2 items after the washer has started. Add detergent, Oxi products, and non-chlorine bleach (powder form) to the bottom of the basket before adding clothes. Always measure detergent and follow its instructions according to load size and soil level. Use a cycle option with a hotter wash temperature for better cleaning. Use the White cycle for intense cleaning. Consult the "Cycle Guide" to choose the best one for your load. It is possible that foam caused by excess detergent prevents the washer from operating correctly. Always measure detergent and follow its instructions according to load size and soil level.
Odor
- Possible Cause: Not using dispensers. Not washing similar colors together. Obstructed dispenser.
Wash Stage Light(s) Flashing
- Possible Cause: Lid is not closed. A cycle has stopped or paused with the Start/Pause button. Door lock mechanism.
- Solution: Close the lid. The washer will not agitate with the lid open. The washer may still be spinning. The lid will not unlock until the basket has stopped spinning. This may take several minutes if large or heavy loads were spinning. When in the locking or unlocking process, it is normal for the light to flash.
